I've been choosing Falon's dins reach because I assume it's better. :)

Yes that is the one I would choose between the two.

But why is it better?

+Damage is largely better than +AP if you have to choose between the two, unless the AP amount is more and you are facing high armor enemies.

Okay I'm just arguing here but towards the end aren't there a lot of people with high armor?

Sure.  But you probably have other sources of armor penetration.  And in this specific case Spear Thrower only has 0.5 more AP than Falon'Din has bonus damage, so that is a marginal advantage against targets who have more armor than you have AP from other sources.

Okay sounds good.  I don't think I get AP from other sources.  So there's that.

Even against heavily armoured targets, the higher tier of falon'din's makes it better.

There's isn't any necessity for AP. It's basically identical to +damage, but with the condition that it only works until you've negated all of your target's armour. Importantly, it's never better unless you're already at the +100 limit (impossible in origins). E.g. against a high armour target, +20 damage will perform exactly the same as +20 AP. But against a low armour target, the former is way better.

Should have looked it up, thought Spear-Thrower was T7 too.

You can't tell the difference between superior elven craftsmanship and the crude work of a darkspawn?

Tsk, shemlen.
