I decided to do all the major areas before doing the main quests, now that I have reached skyhold. Is there any compelling reason I shouldn't go this route. Will it screw anything up - even my romance with Cullen?

From my 1st and only play through(for now) of Inquisition, That's what I did also, I didn't see anything that would ruin the story or anything, It's not like the ME2 ending(just the one mission) where after a certain amount of missions something would happen to your ending.

Only lyrium can stand between Quizzy and Cullen, so you should be good.

The only damage you can do this way is:

1. Get fatigued and not be able to finish the game. (This purely depends on the person, so you'll have to judge it for yourself.)

2. Might mess with the pacing. As in you do all the fluff now and then the main story just rushes by. (Wether it is bad or not is for you to judge.)

3. You'll get overleveled, so the game might be tad bit to easy during the final bits. Again, you decide if that's bad or not. Having the Trespasser trials: Even Ground and Take it slow should keep the levels moderately in check.

Other than that, doing the main areas first should not "break" anything. (A hammer is a much better tool for that). One thing you should be mindful of is to talk to your companions after each main quest once you start doing them. And maybe check in on them while you are side questing if you are garnering a lot of approval for them. Unless you don't want any companion content. Then ignore them.

There is one set of objectives you MUST do in the proper order or you won't be able to complete them properly and there will be a permanent ! on your map.

When you are forging through Emprise du Lion clearing the templar camps and get to the broken bridge, do NOT repair it in advance of claiming Suledin Keep. Likewise, if you repair it, do NOT go kill any dragons in advance of claiming the keep. Repairing the bridge, killing the dragons, and marking the points for the Inquisition are all objectives given by Baron Edouard Desjardins, who appears after the keep is claimed. If you do any of these in advance, you won't be able to get them from him.

Aha, that might explain why he tends to have a "!" in my games, even though there is no dialogue with him that can remove it. I think I almost always repair the bridge before claiming the keep.

Otherwise, I tend do do (almost) completist runs and the main issue for me has been that my team gets overpowered, so Take it slow is a must for me post-Trespasser.

That explains the ! for me, too. Ha, thanks.
