So, I played the main game all the way through early last year, before any of the major DLC had come out. Now I've pulled it off the shelf again, and I notice that, while the three major mission DLCs (Jaws of HakkonThe Descent, and Trespasser) are $45 bought separately on the PlayStation Store, the Game of the Year Edition, which includes them, is $40. I have some questions:

1. If I buy the Game of the Year Edition, will I be allowed to use my old characters to play the DLC that comes with it, or will I need to start over?

2. Should Jaws of Hakkon and The Descent be played during the main campaign or after? If during, when is the best time, story-wise?

Not positive about the first question but I'd assume you could.

For the second this is a matter of personal preference.  Many ppl like to do both after Cory but before Trespasser, as it represents what the IQ was up to in the 2 years between those events.

I however got bored in both DLCs, they're both over 5 hours long and I wasn't keen on them tbh.  So now I'm going to start them earlier in the game and do them in bits like any other zone.  Also, Skyhold gets buggy after the Cory fight and you can't chat to ppl anymore.  I'd rather return to a normal Skyhold during those DLCs.

It's up to you. :)

As someone who just bought the DLC myself, and is in the final stages of my 100% "completionist" playthrough, I did both Jaws of Hakkon and Descent before my final battle with Corypheus.  I did Jaws of Hakkon right after finishing Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts and Here Lies the Abyss.  I had finished all the other zones before starting Wicked Eyes, Wicked Hearts, so it was nice to have another zone in here to break it up.  Then, it was nice again to have another zone with The Descent before launching the final battle with Corypheus.  It kind of breaks up that final rushed ending from the original game.

In my opinion The Descent should have be released with the original game.  It gives a great "dwarves" story to be added for Dwarf Inquisitors.  You uncover some MAJOR lore about Dwarves that could possibly have big implications for them in the future.  Without Descent, the only dwarven interaction you get from the game is a few war table missions.

There are also some unique lines if you do the DLCs before defeating the Corypheus.  Talking about how you refuse to die while Corypheus still threatens Thedas.

Normally, I look down on bumping threads, but I figure no one will object to knocking the troll off the top of the forums.

Also, I'd like to maximize my chances of getting a firm answer to my first question.

There's no difference between GotY and standard edition saves.
