I have recently logged in from a new computer and browser, and I have discovered that I'm having some oddities. I'm using internet explorer, and I'm unable to use the "quote" functions. I can't even "paste" text into a post. I've heard of people using smartphones having this problem, but I have no idea what could be causing it on a laptop.

I thought I'd ask on the off chance someone knows of a setting or update issue that might resolve it within the next week.

The problem might be Internet Explorer itself, try using Firefox or Chrome.

I'm on a friend's laptop, so I probably shouldn't install anything without asking. I'll be back with my own computer within a day or two, so it really won't make much difference, but the symptoms are so odd that I was curious if anyone had insight.

I utilize IE, and it is working fine for me. You may wish to see if there is another setting, or perhaps an updated version available?

My work computer, which uses IE, has the same problem. I've never figured out how to fix it, but I think it's something in the settings.

As a few people have pointed out in the stickied thread, I wasn't actually asking BioWare, per se, but the community. Which, once again, has disappointed me by providing well-intended advice instead of mocking me for being a newb. I swear people around here don't know how to internet right.

Username relevant.

Check your IE settings. You will want to set permissions to handle java script and cookies

In Chrome and Firefox, you can get an add-on or extension that allows you to adjust the toxicity level of a specific website. Your toxic setting may be too low for your satisfaction.

@Tarshana

Thank you for the suggestions. I looked into those, and my settings appear to match the recommended ones. I should try a different site and see if the problem persists.

Simple answer: this site doesn't like IE. :(  What you have to do is change the reply box to bbc code mode (far left button on the top row, right next to your avatar pic - it's basically text mode) and then hit "quote" or paste in your text. It's the only way I can get it to work.

Hit the button again and all the formatting options will be available, though I've found not all of them will work properly. For those, I have to type in the codes manually. Different font size is the worst.

Yep; this one has been using it at least since '96, and on various Bioware boards since around '98.

Yes, thank you once again for the insult, when I was trying to help someone.

I don't believe the comment was directed at you, but rather at me. Specifically in response to this comment that I made:

As to your advice, if I find myself stuck using Internet Explorer again, I will try your suggestion. It sounds a lot like what I experienced and would probably work. But I have the luxury of being back on my own machine sooner than expected.

Hmm, I don't think I made any helpful suggestions. I just added the mild insult in because you complained no-one had insulted you.

The second part of my post was referring to Melbella's suggestions.
