I think it is pretty obvious Commander Shepard won't be making an appearance in Andromeda itself. However... with the trailer in which (Fem)Shepard narrates, does this mean that Shepard surviving Mass Effect 3 is canon?

It was more just for effect.

Making anything canon would likely result in a shitstorm from the fans.

Mass Effect Andromeda is nothing but a hallucination in Commander Shepard's mind.

Because Indoctrination Theory is canon.

Why would Shepard surviving be canon when they haven't said when they are leaving Earth and could very well be leaving prior to Mass Effect 3?

Maybe they leave for Andromeda before the ending or even before ME3?

Nope.

Bio said it's a new story with new characters and that no major character from the MW will make an appearance. That

last part suggests some minor character(s) may make an appearance. Perhaps in a cameo / Easter Egg.

Who knows, maybe that journalist that Shep punched....

It could have been something Shepard recorded before ME1

Whatever you believe, just remember that Bioware are notorious for telling the truth and definitely don't have a reputation for trolling their own fanbase.

Because Indoctrination Theory is canon.

Why stop there? Let's make Extreme Indoctrination Theory canon, so ME2 and ME3 are hallucinations too.

Well my Shepard survived the Destroy ending, but it's not canon. I'm mostly ok with that.

Codex Entry: Commander Shepard "The First Human Spectre" is a fictional character and the subject of several interactive films published by Tethras Enterprises. These films were wildly popular due at least in part to the player being able to customize Shepard, from gender to appearance to combat specialties.  The viewer was able to experience the adventures using Shepard as an avatar, making choices for Shepard and customizing the story to suit individual tastes.  The Commander could even have romances with several of the colorful cast of characters
Over its five year run, numerous adventures where made available for Shepard's fans to experience, though the central plot revolved around foiling the "Reapers" a mythological race of sentient AIs the films credited for the extinction of the Protheans.
Shepard's run ended with the so-called "Shepard Incident".  The conclusion of the final film was considered so controversial that it caused an unprecedented uproar which even a re-released ending could not quell.
Currently Tethras Enterprises has no plans to bring back Shepard for other stories.  However, they are looking into the licensing Blasto for a new series.

I still prefer the Spectre Virtual Reality training twist, with Nihlus greeting you at the end, congratulating that you passed.

Speculations! :wizard:

I realize this, just wanting confirmation on the likelihood Shepard survives ME3...

except they'd never hear about it because forums are closing... and Facebook is easy to ignore.

Wouldn't that depend on the individual player?

Shepard is alive and well. She is currently in Vancouver having drinks with Samantha

The recording was most likely done before the events of ME3

The recording for me does not have anything to do with Shepard, or the Trilogy. I saw it in a way that this was a Goodbye from Commander Shepard outside the games, to maybe encourage people to let go of the wish that Shepard will ever be in another game, but instead to look forward to the future with a new protagonist and a new setting.

That was my first thought too, that it was basically made specifically for the N7 trailer.  However, if it wasn't, I'd guess that it would come at some point between the ending of ME1 and Shepard's death in ME2.  Bioware have said they didn't want to canonise a particular ending and it would explain why that speech didn't appear in the original trilogy.

"Speculation for everyone". BW quite literally invited players to head canon the ending, so Shepard's state at the end of any choice is up to the player.

...what if the Arc merely travel to interdimensional pockets and found themselves in an alternate reality where Shepard never existed, Milky Way was destroyed and Andromeda was the final refuge for the reapers.

Sorry, been watching Dark Matter.
