Though, my senile brain now remembers ....2012-2017 is half a decade. It's not a tiny sliver of time, either.

-DA2 was rushed. Yes, most of us will agree on that. Doesn't mean it was solely EA's decision. Do you think they're just going to be evil overlords and tell their subordinates hit this deadline or you're going to be sorry? No, probably more along the lines of Bioware and EA MUTUALLY agreed to this since maybe Bioware wanted to explore and experiment with more self-contained stories. If you could do it well and fast easy way to make money for a business? They would probably agree it didn't work as intended which is why they changed their development in DAI.

No game developer in their right mind would be happy to produce a game in as little time as possible as an experiment. Game designers want to take as much time as possible to work on their games, and part of the role of the publisher is to keep production time to a reasonable amount and prevent developers from designing a game indefinitely.

And what reason do you have why EA, the parent company, would not make business decisions without the explicit consent of their subsidiary divisions? Bioware could make a case as to why they want more development time, but if EA says hit the deadline, no extensions, Bioware isn't going to go on strike until their demands are met. They're going to meet the deadline and possibly reduce game quality to meet it.
