From what I can gather, the darkspawn redesign was to make them look like they lived underground. But they're not necessarily very creepy. I think a way to make them more disturbing would be to have their skin appear semi-translucent. Not only would this transparency add to the lack of pigment by living underground thing, but it would make them look way more creepy.

Feels like they had a lore change/artchange for each game. Would love for them
