This is the second shutdown I experience. The first one came without any warning, when social.bioware.com was taking down after an online attack without any warning and without coming back. Even more info was lost on that forum, as it had topics about Baldur's Gate dating back some 10 years or so. It was a true treasure trove of information about the game.

I haven't been visiting these boards much since they replaced the old fora, as all topics got bagged into one big BG subforum and there where no handy subforums anymore, like technical issues, quest and storyline etcetera. Mostly this has been a Dragon Age forum, not a Baldur's Gate forum. And Dragon Age being a much easier game (I play it on Nightmare most of the time and still it's a breeze - most of the time), there wasn't much need visiting the forum for Dragon Age info.

The thing I feared when Beamdog started to make it's Enhanced Edition became true. Even though I myself am a big fan of the Enhanced Edition, some people are not, which I can understand as some changes were drastic. My fear was the community getting split into those that play EE and those that remain true to Tutu and BGT. And even though I saw some beloved people staying active on these forum.bioware.com topics, like Grimwald the Wise, ussnorway and corey_russel, not much happens here anymore. The lights were dimmed to a slumber long before the company decided to flip the switch.

Still, I want to say goodbye to Grimwald the Wise, ussnorway and corey_russel, even though since forums.beamdog.com I didn't post that much here anymore. And also to other Baldur's Gate players here: farewell, have a good journey and maybe I'll see you somewhere else on the road.

Tue, Son of Imoen - I do play vanilla BG 1 sometimes - often play vanilla BG 2. And yeah I remember you from the old forum as well. I'll be in the Beamdog no-reload thread if you ever decide to give it another whirl. And I love Dragon Age: Origins (have played it dozens of times to the end).

I too have been slowly drifting over to the Beamdog forum.

At least this time there has been some warning. :)

My new no reload game is over there and I am beginning to use it for other queries as well.

I think that the no-reload thread would have been better split up into segments, BGEE Icewind Dale BG2 EE etc. but at least we have a continuing forum which is not bad considering the age of the game.

What is a pity is that there are a lot of mods that were made for Tutu that probably will not be made available for EE. Some of them were superb such as level 1 NPCs, others were of minor interest, but of interest nonetheless.

When something like this happens I always think about life and changes each new day brings. It's inevitable that certain things stay only in our memory. But you never know what new experience will be like - will it be worse or better than the past?

Thanks to Serg BlackStrider the no-reload threads of old will be available for reading.

forums.beamdog.com is an active forum for BG and IWD games now. Even while the majority of people there play EEs, there're no restrictions on discussing pre-EE versions and mods. It's an honour to be able to discuss these games with bioware veterans, no matter the place.

The main thing is that there remains a place where old friends like Son of Imoen, Belgar, Grimwald, ussnorway, Corey, gate70, Blackraven and many, many others can still meet online and talk.

And believe me, such discussions can lure new players to these old games and can attract new people into posting, which will result in getting new online friends. And this is the most important thing.

It is a huge shame, I love replaying a lot of these older games though and skimmed over the various forums more than a few times over the years looking for solutions to problems. Thankfully the EEs and various Kickstarters have brought about a revival of them... That being said I think the EEs bring my total copies of BG owned up to 5 or 6 now :P

Anyway, for that very reason I've been trying to ask that a few of the new/replacement Bioware forums that are popping up have sections for these games. I think it's important that people know that Bioware is not just Mass Effect and Dragon Age. They created a number of other great games that are well worth playing if you can look past the dated graphics.

So the new forums that do have Legacy game sections are as follows:

The Refuge: Has a Legacy Games section and subsections for BG, NWN, NWN2, and Kotor.

BSNboards.net : Has a Legacy games section.

Fextralife: I've been told that a Legacy games section will be coming, and the Legacy games content from these forums will also be imported over.

For BG though I think you're probably right in thinking that the Beamdog forums will be the most likely place to find active discussions and players. But at least there's still a place with some of the new Bioware forums too.
