Bye people.

My grade school teachers made the entire school sing these songs at assembly, I never looked them up cuz they were so ye olde but it seems appropriate, thinking back on it someone was probably really sad back there.

Well, I usually don't do goodbye thingies, but this here is the first forum I've signed up in, participated a lot in, and that I stayed in, visiting pretty much every day.

Even if I wasn't here for very long, I loved the discussions and I had a very good time, met lots of friendly people and I guess it even increased my love for the DA and ME franchise a lot more.

I first played DAO in 2011 when two of my old school buddies introduced me to it. They played while I watched and I was excited to see there were choices, awesome characters, and yes, even romances :P

I spent a lot of my teenish years playing JRPGs, so this kind of freedom was something new to me, and it was something that I don't want to miss. Back then I sometimes would play a game I really loved 2 or 3 times at most, but I played each DA game 4 or 5 times now and I'm on my 5th ME trilogy run, all in the span of pretty much 2-3 years, and a lot more runs are going to come. I love the games and this community a lot and I was actually sad when they announced the forum closure.

Now I feel a lot better though because I found some nice cozy homes for me and of course knowing that all this here will be saved helped as well (thanks, Fexelea!!).

I will be at http://bsn.boards.net/, http://fextralife.com and https://the-refuge.net/ for now. They look like the most promising sites for me so far and I'm excited to see where they go from here :)

I guess I'll see many of the people I was seeing on here in one of these new places!

Cheers and have a good one, it was a pleasure! :wizard:

:L I've already said goodbye to those who matter. I liked this community and helping out new people with the keep. I could say mean things about Bioware, but apart from it's approach to community management the individual people in the company I've "spoken" to are really nice people (aside from names that shan't be named).

It has been 1561 days since I joined the BSN boards in the wake of ME3's release, and now this time is at an end.  One of the first things to happen in my long and illustrious career on these boards was the infamous Miranda Civil War and the closure of the romance and character sub-forums and I think that set the tone for the rest of my time here quite nicely.

Since those long ago days of yore, I've made friends (looking at you Deinonslayer wherever you went, the Miranda fan thread, the IT group, the RDF, the Ghosts, members of TSG, others) and met people who I am less inclined to want a knock a beer back with (glaring at you Xil, Plaintiff, Lobs), and those who for all of their trolling, insanity, and other shenanigans I cannot but help miss on some level (staring in bewilderment at you David7204, Auld Wulf, N7Phantom).

Alas these times are at an end, cut short by whatever insane self-defeating logic BioWare has group!thinked its way into.  I loved every second of it, whether it was arguing for the umpteenth time over the geth/quarians or the mages/templars, whether DA2 was a good game (it wasn't) or how many issues sans the endings that ME3 had (a lot).  You guys made it all an exercise, sometimes in futility, but an exercise nonetheless.

BioWare I have not begged you to keep the forums open, I have not demanded that you listen to our impotent rage on these boards, nevertheless here is some unsolicited and what will almost certainly be unread advice.  Time for a shakeup.  Your company has been circling the drain for some time now, and DA:I is looking more and more to have been a last gasp of brilliance long past rather than a true return to form.  Your stubbornness, your refusal to engage honestly with critics as well as drones. and your projection of a belief that everything is fine while you have been left behind by other companies.  Those seeking engaging RPG depth have other alternatives, Obsidian for their silent protagonists and skill/attribute based games, CDPR for engrossing plots, characters, and mature story telling, even Bethesda got in on the game with Fallout 4, what then is your current reason to exist?  You need to figure it out, not to reclaim your crown, that has long since left you, but to try and retain some sort of dignity in the eyes of your fans.  More likely you will instead simply fall into the pit of other EA "has been" companies.

It is still comforting however, that in the dying hours of this place, despite the best efforts of your utterly incompetent, nonsensical, and arbitrary "moderation" people here still want to be together and share ideas (both worthwhile and others of the "Tali's sweat" variety.

And a note on the moderation since I will either be banned anyways or since this forum is about to be closed.  What on God's good green Earth where you thinking when you put in the Botmods.  I have never seen such ridiculously incompetent and selective moderation anywhere.  For all the faults that the volunteer moderators and staff members had (such as Allan accidentally banning me for months) you botmods managed to outdo even that with your ridiculousness and schizophrenic tendencies.  So all of you guys can go find the business end of a pitchfork and use it as a Pogo-stick, except you BotMod 2, you're always welcome to drop me a line.

I will look fondly back on these times, even the times I was called steelc*nt by the SJW filth of the elf/Dalish support groups who all need a reality check and some intensive therapy, N7Phantom who should be beaten with a history book over the head til it gets in his system via osmosis, being called a bigot for being white and straight by Plantiff or baiting him with repeated pictures of Amon from Legend of Korra (lol @him thinking he was the good guy), or shaking my head in disbelief at the ridiculousness of our Lord and Savior David7204 with his message of HEROISM and GOOD CHARACTERIZATION, but perhaps most of all I will miss Auld Wulf, and his glorious insults (genocide fetishist takes the take), his melt-down via blog posts, or his ridiculous and insane logic that would make sense in a Dali painting and nowhere else.

So I bid you all a fond and bittersweet farewell at this time.

PS. I look forward to seeing you all on the pop up forums

I posted this over in Concerning Our Forums because this thread didn't exist.  So I'm going to say it here again:

"This is likely going to be one of the last posts I make here.

I started using the forums back in 2014, when the hype for DAI was getting going.  I hung out in the original Cass thread, the Sera thread and the Solas thread (which became my home).  It's thanks to this forum that my interest in DA didn't immediatly fade after finishing DAI.  Unlike the other games (which I played isolated from the community) I had people who wanted to talk theory and lore with me.  I've always enjoyed Dragon Age and been a fan, but I became a bigger fan of Dragon Age thanks to being on these forums.

Being on these forums hasn't always been fun, and sometimes it's a very toxic place.  But that's what happens when a very large group of people with very different opinions come together.

So... yeah.

I'm going to miss this place."

I mean this.  Every passionate discussion I've had, every argument I've managed to get involved in - it's been fun.  Not always in a good way, but this isn't an online experience I'd trade for anything.

Anyone who has made the switch to the bsn boards: I'll see you over there.  Everyone else: goodbye.

I started off with Baldur's Gate and first posted to the Black Isle forums... then the old Bioware forums... then BSN... and now here.  I am sorry to be losing this place.  Thanks to all with whom I've enjoyed some wonderful discussions over the past decade and a half.  And thanks to Bioware for hosting us.

Special thanks to Fexelea for all the hard work in migrating the forums over to Fextralife.  It'll make it easier to move when our history moves with us.

Last post on these forums :'(, it was fun having in detail discussions with other members of this great community. I'll miss the in depth discussions, the emotions of just chatting about specific emotional scenes with other members, and even just some of the bickering that could go on ;) it's a shame it ends this way, but we've all tried, now it's up to Bioware to work harder on fan interaction. Please keep up the work in making great games Bioware, do us justice in that respect at least.

Bye everybody :'( signing off for the last time

Genuinely sad to see the forum go. I still think the decision is wrong but I thank Bioware for all the memories I've gained over the many years of being a member of the forum's different incarnations.

Most of all thanks to the forum poster many years back at the launch of Mass Effect 1 that created the Shepard who has become my default over the three games.

Megan Shepard will miss you all.

I have - quite uncharacteristically - decided to use my last words to thank Bioware for all the good things they've done, and all the things they've done right. Because there's been plenty of those.     (...too.   ;) )

One of those things is their stance on inclusion. And do note that I don't consider myself a SJW (perhaps I would if they were sane, but they're not, so). No I hate that group and the media that props them up.

Bioware have not hesitated from including and making equal - and giving equal opportunity to - different genders, races and sexual orientation (even dwarfs   ;) ). - And a big Hurrah for that! - Because it's right, fair and decent!  Never step back.

Bioware even included such as me.

I'm a white male.

And let me tell you that I'm proud of being a white male! Because, I feel we - white males - are the originators, creators and builders of most things that are good in the world.

We wrote most of the most important documents, declarations and laws on human rights and equality.

We ended slavery. We ended child labour. We made education compulsory. We gave women equal rights.

We created a system to understand the world that was based on rational thought.

We invented pretty much all technology from steam onwards.

We mapped the World. We discovered the Universe.

But isn't that an awful, outright racist statement?

No. It would be if I would claim that we did that because we were white males. But I don't. These are all the accomplishments of the Western culture. White males just happened to be dominant within that. There's no difference between people at birth. There's a lot of difference between cultures though. And I have no qualms about claiming the superiority of Western culture, reinforced with Indian and Chinese scientists as it is.

Be proud. I'm proud. Never apologize or retreat.

And all of this is of course also a message for you all know who.  <_<

...That doesn't seem possible, somehow.

I've made some good friends because of this board, people I would never have had the privilege of  knowing without it. Taken part in some truly, gloriously, odd conversations (no few of of which involved a certain Turian). Seen pictures that some people couldn't imagine (and in a few cases, wouldn't want to).

Regardless of the reasons for the closure, I appreciate that I got those things from here.

So long and thanks (even if there weren't any fish).

I believe I'll say farewell to the forum. Thanks, BSN, for all the times I shook my head, laughed out loud or something made me frown. Thank you, Bioware, for providing such a place.

To the forum users, I'll see you out there on the Internet somewhere. Be cool, all. Stay well.

I thought I'd said my piece in the Concerning thread and elsewhere, but there's always more to add. At this point, I've accepted as headcanon that this closure was mandated from the top, and that the folks who are actually working on the games (and especially those blessed few who still engage us here) are as disappointed as I am.

That said, I wish you had chosen to do things differently, Bioware. Your games (all of them; I mean it) are deep and thought provoking, and provide such fertile ground for discussion. You have always distinguished yourselves in this way. Removing the most accessible and welcoming platform for that discussion is a tragedy and a travesty. Fracturing the community like this is a disgrace. It's a testament to the quality of that community that it's been able to regroup so quickly and effectively on the splinter forums.

This place was never better than it was when you guys were engaged and invested, though. In my inbox on the Legacy BSN, I found a number of conversation threads I had shared with different mods, devs, and writers here. I saw jokes, genial conversation, and good vibes. I saw a developer reaching out to me, unprompted, to clarify a point I had made in a forum post. I saw moderators who took an interest in the conversations all around them and who were dedicated to really understanding and supporting the community. I don't know what chased you guys away. People have said it was DA2. People have said it was ME3. It got nasty here, I'll grant. But as bad this forum may have gotten, you would have provided a counterbalance just by remaining a part of the conversation. This was not an insurmountable problem.

Your stories and characters mean a lot to me. I can conjure up a witty slice of Awakenings banter on command. On any given day, my thoughts will at some point drift over to some aspect of Mass Effect or Dragon Age lore. I carry DA with me everywhere I go - literally - because I have a reference to it inked on my forearm. I am not done with your games, in other words. But I am bitterly disappointed that I will no longer be able to enjoy them as a part of this longstanding and excellent community.

So long, folks. Thank you for laughing with me, thank you for laughing at me, thanks for the arguments, the jokes, the discussion, and the snark. You are all funny and agreeable and confounding and infuriating. It was a pleasure to mix it up with you.

Closing the book on this adventure, and moving on to the next one.

It's been real.

I have, in turns, found these forums engaging, thought provoking, irritating, and occasionally extremely educational. I mourn that in all likelihood, that kind of experience won't be available to people who play any Bioware games to come.

I hope we can keep some semblance of a community, that we can consider the benefits of diversity rather than letting them divide us.

Bye BSN ,

Mostly a thank you to the fanbase , the truth is you gave me more entertaintment with lore/social debates , strange shenanigans , funny trolls , squatting on the DAI twitter thread and sharing opinions and laugh than I probably had with Bioware games.

So yeah I'll follow the community to another place , and Bioware can burn down the forum if it pleases them. :wizard:

I find that my "type and see what happens" post was a bit insufficient.

Tom's post got me thinking about the things that really made this place great. I, too, have old messages stashed in my inbox that I hadn't thought of in years. Those were good times, great times, really. More to the point, though, I thought of these games that brought us here-- the games that BioWare has continued to make for decades. They're my favorite games, despite my knowing their "formula"; and I suspect many of you feel the same.

It's heartbreaking that we lost that close connection that we once enjoyed with the creators of these games. I do understand why they had to pull away. Things got too personal. Its much easier for us to filter a few voices than for them to filter tens of thousands. I get it.

I hope they know, though, that we do still carry their characters, their worlds, their galaxies with us everywhere, everyday, just as Tom said. I must think of Mass Effect, Dragon Age, or one of the Legacy games like KotOR once every couple of hours, in some fashion. A smart ass phrase comes to mind, or a witty comment, or a circumstance reminds me of a similar one in a game... It's non-stop. I regularly use, "This is an outrage!", knowing no one has any idea what the hell I am referencing. I might quote any one of a dozen other scenes that only you, my fellow BioWare gamers, would get.

These games are a part of us nearly as much as if these characters and places had been real people. That's quite an accomplishment. Having a community with whom to share these amazing characters, places and adventures has made them all the greater. When it comes to these stories, connections, and experiences, only a BioWare gamer can truly understand another BioWare gamer, because we've walked the same roads and fought the same fights. That's what has made the BioWare Boards, BSN and BioWare Forums so great. I will definitely miss this community.

I started reading these forums right after I finished Mass Effect 1 because I had never felt so immersed in a game universe before and was eagerly awaiting ME2. After I finished ME2 I was full-on hooked and in the month before and after ME3 came out I had never been so active online as I was during that time period. I lived and breathed ME3, where I spent 1000+ hours playing the multiplayer and got to play frequent matches with Bioware devs, and where I spent countless hours poring over every game detail in ME3. Discussing the ending here, which I hated, with the other posters was incredibly satisfying. We didn't all agree but being able to talk about it in detail with passionate fans was something rare. I met a lot of people online and we formed our own Kaidan appreciation group. The artwork and mods that people poured their time into was truly amazing. The stats and strategies for ME3 multiplayer was really helpful and getting to play online with you guys while discussing the game was extremely fun.

I stopped being as active once I finished DA:I but I was so very looking forward to discussing Andromeda. I don't think I'll ever be as active as I was 4 years ago. The anticipation I had for ME3 was unprecedented, and life moves on and priorities shift. For a brief time we had our own little devoted community, and while I disagree strongly with the decision to close the forums, I'm grateful that people here have made so much effort to preserve as much of this community as they can, even if I may not be as active anymore.

tl;dr:

So long and thanks for all the fish.
