Thank you and farewell [to BW]

I enjoyed lurking on these forums. First, I was mostly looking for answers to questions but then I was drawn in, seduced by, debates on lore and characters. Even *gasp* the romances. I have yet to play ME1, 2, or 3, but I still plan to do so. Thankfully, much of the information Bioware plans to discard (have they updated their help section yet? or do they still point to the forums for answers? yeah, yeah, a little snark) is being copied elsewhere. Thank you Fexelea!
I made my own posts debating issues and positing theories. I wrote my own, probably extremely unread, expectations/hopes for and then a critique of DAI. I started writing fanfic. I am very sorry to see these forums and all the useful information, passionate debates, as well as humorous interjections being tossed to the curb like an unwelcome houseguest. Frankly, the fans deserve better. Enough said on that, it is time to say goodbye and may everybody find a place to call home. I have set up accounts on several forums under the username, Norstaera. I don't know, as yet, which will become my most frequented site(s), but here are all the links for those of you still searching: http://fextralife.com/forums/, http://vroomvroom.freeforums.net/, https://realdragonagefans.forums.net/, http://bsn.boards.net/, https://the-Refuge.net/ and http://biowaresocial...ork.boards.net/.
Fextralife update progress and post-read-only information
For their final curtain call and without further meanderings, I present my Inquisitors:

Okay, they said goodbye elsewhere, but since this is the official goodbye thread . . . . .

Farewell to all. While the core community will maintain its means of communication outside of the wonderful alternatives suggested by Bioware (Twitter and Facebook, lolololololol), the decision to shut down these forums is just a sign of things to come across the industry. It's a shame it has come to this, but at least we were all around to see it through to the end.

Wow...
Last day.

Even though I think most of the regulars have successfully migrated to other boards, it's still feels... profoundly sad to see this place shutting down.
But I did want to say thank you to BioWare for creating some of the very best games out there and a community I wanted to help support. And to all my fellow BSNers out there, thank you... doesn't seem enough for all your support, and all the effort everyone has put in building our new homes. ![]()
Farewell!

[BSNers], you're an interesting species. An interesting mix. You're capable of such beautiful dreams, and such horrible nightmares. You feel so lost, so cut off, so alone, only you're not. See, in all our searching, the only thing we've found that makes the emptiness bearable, is each other.

A time to end.
Stealing from better words written another day:
The closure news was a shock, I was quite cross.
But the response of the community in a 'down period' between games has been pretty much amazing:
- 8 forums were created, extended or spruced up, most successfully.
- Hundreds of people joined forums (some several times over), even BioWare devs have been seen lurking.
- Many thousands of posts have been scraped and thousands of posts have been posted anew.
- The community were invited to head off to Twitter and Reddit, but in the main they've stood up for the long-form forum concept.
- The community is as united and 'together' as I've seen it in ages.
Four weeks ago, none of this was expected or announced.
Few of us welcomed the news, but the effort to keep that which is good, has been remarkable.
Thanks for the journey so far.
If you put your mind to it, nothing is impossible.

I've not always been the biggest fan of BSN. I very clearly remember what it was like here when Mass Effect 3 was released and the toxicity was almost unprecedented. This place hasn't always been a shining example of kindness and civility. Regardless, the deletion of so much excellent information and insight is a great loss that saddens me. I'm a huge Mass Effect fan and the forum was an invaluable resource for the eBook I put together nearly five years ago. I was hoping to use it again for a future iteration, but that no longer seems possible. Anyway, I suppose I'll head over to one or two of the new forums. BSN Unofficial and Fextralife, perhaps.
It's been a good ride. Farewell and into the inevitable.

So, this is it, eh?
Last one out close the light, fellas.
This post was made in another thread. But it prompts what I want to say so well I decided to include it.
This is indeed it. This freakshow has been my internet home for five years through good or bad. When I left, I always came back, through good times and bad. Never before had I integrated into an online community like this and I didn't think I would again. But I jumped at the opportunity to help out with http://bsn.boards.net/ because I believe a place like this is necessary. A place for fans and critics alike, a place to support but also to give feedback, whether it is wanted or not, because it is needed. Because as long as even one fan cares about the games, about the stories, about the characters, they deserve to be heard, and they deserve to be among friends. I hope that wherever each of us goes we carry these ideals, about this company and any other and that when it is time to speak up you will do so together. And you will be heard.
As for this place, I suspected this would be my final reaction when they first announced the closure but I wasn't sure. I've gone from amused, to indifferent to nostalgic, but mostly I've just been going about my business, RL life stuff and helping out here. But now, the end is finally upon us.
And so I post only this. Some, maybe most won't get it. But for those that do get it, it says everything (sorry for the spoilers):
Thank you.

As I said elsewhere, this is not the end, this is just a new beginning.
One that maybe, we all did need, whether we admit it or not.
I am confident I will see you all again, so farewell, and into the inevitable.

Well, this is it...
I’m not great at getting my thoughts in order at the best of times, so this may be a bit disjointed, sorry
Some of you may recognize me, some will not. I joined these forums in the aftermath of ME3’s release, which many of you will remember vividly. My brother showed me the Indoctrination Theory megathread (although it wasn’t a megathread yet) and after a while, I started posting. In the beginning, that was almost the only place I posted here. More than 4000 of my posts were from that series of megathreads, as it happens, which then-Community Manager Chris Priestly was so kind to openly mock me for
People being passionate fans and being social on a so-called social network? Preposterous.
After discussing IT suddenly became ban-worthy (Bioware did a complete 180 on their stance about it, no surprise there really) I was banished like the rest of the ITers. I stayed in exile until a couple of months after DA:I was released. During that time, I played DA:O and DA2 on the recommendation of pretty much everyone, and fell in love with Dragon Age (and hoped it wouldn’t meet Mass Effect’s fate), and my girlfriend kept me up-to-date on DA:I’s pre-release info, using these forums.
Since then, I’ve greatly enjoyed reading and participating in some truly impressive discussions about lore, characters, gameplay, and... hair
But it went a lot deeper than that. These discussions overlapped with things in the real world and made people think about them, too. Politics, equality, history, religion, social philosophies, physics, metaphysics... It’s one of the great things about games – they can be relevant to the real world, they can mean something.
I'll spoiler this so I don't make a wall of text ranting about the closure.
But I’ve railed on too long about that. This is the place for goodbyes to the community. And you know what? I love this community overall. There will be trolls, idiots, and jerks everywhere, but they aren’t nearly so common here as basically everywhere else I’ve seen on the internet. The contrast is startling. Here, there are multitudes of kind, passionate, polite posters ready to welcome you into sharing a discussion. You guys have made me feel safe. That may sound melodramatic, but it’s true. You can just be who you are here, and no one cares. As a member of the LGBT community, heck, even as a woman, that’s important to me, and is a respite from other places. This place has sort of become an online “home” for me.
So thank you, people, for being awesome. Yes, you. And you. I won’t list any names as some do, because I’ll inevitably leave someone out and feel bad, and because there are just too many. Even the people who I disagreed with, as long as you weren't being jerks, you kept the discussions going. Thanks for making all of the great talks we’ve had, thanks for accepting me, and thanks for putting up with my silly reaction pictures
This is the worst part, but farewell to those who will not follow us to a new forum. I will miss you, and I wish you all the best. I hope we will meet again someday.
And to everyone: You’ve done the forum proud holding the line this last month. Well done, and thanks for staying to the bitter end. Together.

This closure has brought us pain, and suffering... and loss. But it’s also brought us together – as fans, allies, friends. That can’t be taken, or destroyed.
This is Banshee, signing off.

Well guys, we've had a good ride. I'll be uncharacteristically brief and just say that I'll miss talking (and sometimes arguing) with you all. This forum has felt like home for the past 6 years and even when the games disappointed me, the community was always there to inspire me, make me laugh, make me consider something I hadn't before. I've chosen not to join one of the replacement forums and not to buy BioWare's future titles but who knows? If ME:A and other future BioWare games manage to defy my expectations and be fantastic and I somehow hear about it without a forum, you guys won't have to worry about finding me. I'll find you and once again bury everyone in explosions of text
. The more likely scenario is that none of that will happen and this will be the last time we see each other BSN so from the bottom of my heart "I should go..." ![]()
