Does anyone know if DA:O uses the 2da file structure? While waiting on the toolset I was hoping I could at least muck around with those but I can't find them anywhere. I am using the Steam version.
I can find the tlk file at:
C:\\Program Files\\Steam\\steamapps\\common\\dragon age origins\\modules\\single player\\data\\talktables
This is the first time I've used Steam but I am assuming even though I run the game through Steam that all the data for the game is on my computer correct?
Does DA:O use 2da files?

It does, but they are not simple text files any more.

2das are in packages\\core\\data
you can open them with Excel (from Microsoft Office) or Calc (from Open Office)

Thanks!
I'm assuming they're in 2da.erf? Is there an ERF Editor compatible with DA:O (I've tried a few built for NWN, NWN2, and KoToR) to extract them? Or another way?

there is an erf editor with the toolset, but tazpn wrote a command-line one, see here: http://social.biowar.../&v=files#files

Hrmm...I can't get that editor too work. daocmd.exe opens a cmd prompt that shuts down right after. I think (not sure at all) that the steam file structure may be hanging it up. The author recommends using erfeditor.exe from KoToR in his readme but I can't get that to work either.
Guess I may have to wait for the toolset.

my guess is that daecmd.exe takes an argument on the commandline, since, it's supposed to be a commandline tool and all. Basically, open up a command prompt, navigate to where you have the daocmd.exe, and type like "daocmd 2da.erf" or something along those lines and it'll probably do wha you expect.

daocmd is a command line tool. Not windows based and is more for advanced users. The toolset will have an interactive one with a user interface and stuff. I use these for more than just ERF files thats why the first command is required.
Syntax is :
Syntax is :
daocmd erf "C:\\Program Files\\Electronic Arts\\Dragon Age Origins\\packages\\core\\data\\2da.erf" -d c:\\tmp\\2da or daocmd erf "C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Electronic Arts\\Dragon Age Origins\\packages\\core\\data\\2da.erf" -d c:\\tmp\\2da This will unpack to c:\\tmp\\2da.Note that the ones in the 2da ERF are in GFF V4.0 format which is binary and not user friendly to edit. Toolset should come with the Excel sources when its released.

All I get from that is pretty much a whole bunch of files I can't use for anything. Do I have to extract the files that I just extracted? If so, how?

Yeah they a pretty much useless in that form thus my comment that they are binary and not friendly to edit. My daocmd can dump the content but again not really useful to most people and the GFFEditor is better that those tools.
I'd wait for the toolset which is scheduled to be released tomorrow. The beta included the source XLS files for the 2da which is probably what you are really looking for. I believe the wiki has some tutorials on how to create proper overrides though I've not followed them myself which would probably be useful reading material in the meantime.
