i think the bare minimum you need to have loyal are tali/legion, garrus/miranda/jacob, and samara(/jack?).



my first ending was bad, lost garrus (my disloyal jack was the biotic, shield ran out), zaeed (second leader), mordin (???) and jack (saw it coming, didn't have enough paragon points during the catfight so she was disloyal). o and the crew died... woops. i think mordin randomly dies unless he's sent back or in your squad, regardless of loyalty or upgrades.

Legion - Tech Specialist. It's a heating vent/pipe thing, so sending in the robot is smarter than someone who can get heat stroke and faint.

Miranda - Squad Leader. Whine as she might about her genes, she's got the superior tatics to lead the team to victory.

Squad was Samara and Grunt



Samara - Biotic Bubble. She's a justicar, and her biotic skills are almost if not at Matriarch level. And the whole 600 years of experience thing. Kinda helps a little bit.

Miranda - Distraction Leader. See Squad Leader.

Zaheed - Crew Leader. He's esentially a Renegade Shepard with a 30 year age boost. If anyone was going to beat down a bunch of Collectors single-handedly, it would be him.

Squad was Grunt and Thane



Samara/Mordin - Kicking the Reaper's ^&*(ing ass! Samara's Reave was useful on anything, especially Harbinger and the eye's of that weird human reaper thingiee. Mordin also had Incinerate. Mmm, fire...





100% survival rating. Not a single member of my squad died, no captured crew members died, and I blew up the Collector's pretty little home.

I'm starting to think this, too. Going to try the ending a 3rd time and I will either have him escort or join me in the final battle.

The past 2 attempts, Mordin died at the very end.

First attempt, Legion got a rocket to the face. Changed the team leader from Zaeed to Garrus and made sure I killed all the collectors before opening the last valve for the second attempt...Legion survived. Not sure what affects his survival.

I didn't even use mordin for anything, didn't send him back, didn't make him a leader or tech spec, didnt put him in my party, he lived just fine *shrug*

Just finished it, i refrained from any suicide mission spoilers, so i went in blind, i survived, and i lost Mordin and Thane.

Tech - Legion (Shot in the face at the end, even though he was loyal and upgraded. Wtf?)

Diversion Team - Miranda Lead (Shot in the stomach, shrugged it off)

Biotic Escort - Samara (No troubles)

Fire Team - Miranda (died. was loyal and upgraded)



Took Garrus and Tali vs human reaper.



Why did Legion and Miranda die?

Only lost Mordin on my first run-through. Second run-through went without a casualty.

These choices have to do with the characters personality and background. a few of you lost legion due to choosing sumara as your first team lead. Shes a justicar and acts on her own normally, she has little team leading experiences. Garrus is a natural tactician and lead his team of twelve against the merc groups on Omega. Think about these kind of things when choosing teams.

Also if miranda leads a team but is not loyal she may survive but legion will not even if he is loyal.

This is very interesting to me.  I just finished my first playthrough yesterday and had everyone in my squad except Zaeed.  I had completed everyone's loyalty mission, but lost Miranda's loyalty after her confrontation with that other squaddie and my Para/Rene ratings were NOT high enough to patch things up.  After the kidnapping, we went straight through and saved all the crew.  All of my squaddies lived... except the "un-loyal" Miranda, who was part of the fire-time (not leading it) holding up the rear.  I was expecting her to betray me somehow, or get lured into serving the Collectors a la NWN2 and the Shadow King.  So, when she died, I just shrugged and assumed, "Okay, not loyal = dead."  Sounds like that's not right, and so I'm curious as to why she was the one who died or, if you can have several non-loyal squaddies and still come out with everyone, why she died at all.  Very interesting.

Because I'm obsessive over having everyone survive, I played through the suicide mission three times before I got it right. 

First time: Legion and Mordin died.
Second time: Just Mordin died.
Third time: Everyone survived.

I wasn't going to choose Miranda, because I don't like her attitude when it comes to leadership and felt like Jack had a good reason to react as she did. I chose Samara, giving her the benefit of the doubt, and, yeah, Legion died. Next time, Garrus leads.

My entire team including all shipmates lived with the exception of tali who died as the tech specialist due to rocket in face. Maybe i should have picked garrus he survived that once why couldn't he have done it again.



All squadmates were loyal.

On the current playthrough I'll try to get the mission-critical (Specialists, Escort, and Fire team Leader) loyal, and only them. To see how many survives this way.

Zaeed died while leading the second team, which was a bit sad. And after killing the boss, I discovered that Tali was dead too. I didn't do her loyalty mission because I hate Tali, so that's okay. But my entire crew also died. Is that unavoidable?

Legion's Team-mate quest should be the LAST thing you do in the game. After that, you can only do his Loyalty mission and THATS it. Anything after that, people start dying.

Really? Damn it.  I have been saving all the N7 missions so I can do them with him.

Everyone survived on hardcore with me playing an adept. The Normandy was fully upgraded and everyone was loyal to me.

I used Jacob as the fire leader both times (ex alliance military). I sent Tali (tech!) through the vents and used Legion and Mordin as my personal squad mates the entire way through the suicide mission (love this combo).

I used Samara as the biotic shield and sent Zaeed back with the crew.

I did it with full upgrades/loyalties, everyone got out alive, no casualties.

Everyone lived for me.  Tali was my tech specialist.  Samara handled the biotic barrier.  Jacob escorted the Normandy crew back to the ship.  Miranda was the fire leader both times.  In the final battle I took Miranda and Jack.  After defeating the final boss, I thought Jack was a goner but my Shepard saved her heroically  

Everyone was loyal and the ship was fully upgraded.

My theory is that the main thing you need to do in order to keep your tech specialists and Mordin alive is to upgrade their omni-tools. Get Mordin's prototype omni-tool, as well, just to be safe. Also, shield upgrades help improve everybody's chances of survival.

 I survived the Suicide Mission. (t-shirt maybe? lol.) and everyone survived.
