Please see important edit in my OP. Sorry for the bump, but this may save people hours of time.

Let's really break down ME1 to ME2 with this.
ME1:
Pros: Really cool planets to crawl over
Typically only have 1 planet to fully "investigate" in a cluster, the rest you just "Scan" once
Cons: Sometimes crawling over mountains could get pretty tedious if trying to grab all resources. Some mountains were pretty sheer and could be somewhat challenging to traverse.
ME2:
Pros: ...
Cons: Went from driving a cool vehicle on planets to spinning a globe (I feel quite a bit of carpel tunnel pain after trying to scour planets to Depletion.)
I don't mind mini games, but this one fails, sorry Bioware. I don't mind the lock picking/hacking ones, but the planetary scanning is very tedious. Every time I want to replay the game, I think of this "feature" and I end up playing something else.
Slight tangent, but I would also note that the cash / resource ratio seems wacky. I ended up with way too many resources and had more concerns with being strapped for credits (I still had enough to buy all the upgrades I wanted eventually).
