I know you could turn helmet graphics off completely for each character in the NWN2 engine.
Since BioWare has not seen fit to give us a toggle, is there a way to do this in the toolset?
ShowHelm = no?

I don't think the Toolset is out yet..I'm hoping someone figures it out, or that we get a show toggle with the first patch or two for DAO.

I would think so. If you play the official campaign, helmets are temporarily removed from party members heads during most cutscenes

By default, when you make a conversation in the toolset the helmets are removed from all party members (but not for NPCs).
However, this is customizable. When you are setting the staging information you can chose between the following options for any actor in the conversation:
[Blank] -> Default behavior (party members have helmets off, NPCs helmets on)
Force Off -> The actors helmet is removed no matter who they are
Force On -> The actors helmet remains on now matter who they are
Because staging information automatically cascades down the tree, you just need to set this option once and it will persist until you change it.
99% of conversations in DA:O use the default behavior. Party members have their helmets removed, so you can see their faces. NPCs have their helmets left on since its disconcerting to see them pop off, and you have always have the NPC NOT have a helmet if you want them to not have a helmet. In a rare case where the guy needs a helmet in game, but not in conversation, you have the power to override.

How do you disable the helm from being removed during conversations in the main game itself? Is there some kind of trigger in the ini file?

You can't. Its driven by the choices of the cinematic designers. There is no way to override it.

Thank you for the response, but I was hoping that there was something akin to a helmet toggle so that I could just set my party to always have their helmets not show both in conversation and out.

Yeah a-la Mass Effect and NWN. I wouldn't mind it too because the helmets are just ugly..so I just don't wear them..but am missing the armor/bonuses of them.

My helm looks pretty ridiculous (no offense intended, BioWare). So is there possibly a console command to turn off the helmet graphic during normal gameplay? I would very much like to turn off my helmet, but I'd like to keep the states and armor bonuses of the helm so just "taking it off" isn't a good suggestion.

These sort of things make me laugh.
You give us a nicely detailed character generation screen, you even gave us a pre release character creator so we could get our character faces just right and then within seconds you can no longer see the face you meticulously created - except for cutscenes.
This really needs to be added.

I just run around with no helmet. The helmets are superfluous anyway. Their defensive bonuses are ignorable.

couldn't agree more, the helmets aren't all that great and you can actually ignore them if you feel like looking at your char's head more then some helmet.

Better if we can turn off the helm graphics...

Yeah, the helm of deep looks gross on my mage girl, but well...
Luckily iron doesn't block the flow of mana.

Well, since you need your whole party at max effectiveness, you might consider dumping it on a tank.

I agree. Every once in a while you'll come across a helm that looks bad ass, but most of the time, they look kinda silly. Just my $0.02.
