Apparently it does an internet check when you start the game, even before Cerberus tries to log in. Logging in and out isn't a solution for someone who has NO internet connection at all.

I'm on the 360 and it's doing the same thing, it won't let me play even if I disable CN auto log in. This is really annoying, I hope they fix/patch this soon.

I have all dlc's with Dragon Age I can play off line without any issue's. With Mass Effect2 I have Cerberus off line but have have Bioware online without any issue's. If I feel like it, I can still log in into Cerberus without any problems.

But you still have internet access even if you are not logged in right? The problems is specific to us that don't have internet connection all the time.

Same here. Downloaded and installed the DLCs, but I'm still getting the New Content Available blurb in the menu and it notifies me that it needs to authenticate DLC every single time I try to play while not connected to the net. Not that connecting is an issue, no, but come on. I want to be able to play this without being online, since that's a state I spend a fair bit of my vacation time in.

If any of the Bioware folks are reading this, some form of patch would be really, really appreciated.

This problem is NOT solved.

I tried a few things again:

started with internet connection, activated auto start and online feedback, made a new save.

Then i turned both online options off and restarted the game.

I could load the savegame, but was still connected to internet(but not cerberus)

Then i restarted with no internet active and again NO DLCs playable.

Has anyone found a file that stores DLC information? Can we check if it updates/changes?

Yes, and don't forget the 360 version as well.  Really annoying when Xbox live is down due to DNS error, and I can't play my saved games....I don't even know if I can start a new character offline.

The people whose content is working offline - can you tell us whether you still get notified of (installed) content by Cerberus when you log on? And can you find any visible sign of activation locally, like a file or config?

Late to the party, but thought I'd answer this in case you're still wondering. I can play off-line with all my DLC, but while connected to the Cerberus Network I constantly get the 'New Content Available' message. I haven't looked for an activation file (really wouldn't know where to start).

There is a file called BioPersistentEntitlementCache.ini
But its unreadable. Could be our Nemesis. It is changed when logging in while connected.

It gets iritating now: After a few tries I'm now able to play offline. In the last starts both online options were off and I started it with and without internet.
BUT now I can't play while connected to the internet ! (It asks me to log into cerberus network to authorize)
The above mentioned file changed, while connected, and it seems to allow me to play offline; but that file is ignored when the Launcher detects an internet connection.

Interesting. Have you tried deleting (or moving) the file? If there's some kind of problem with it deleting it, then starting ME and logging into Cerberus might create a clean version. I'm not at my gaming computer now, so can't try this myself.

Remember that ME2 auto logs on to your online account by default (changeable in the options menu). This means that even if you're not logged to Cerberus Network, you are still officially "online". So loading your saves with DLC work. If you unplug your internet connection, then you're really offline and games with DLC won't load.

DLC needs online authorization to work. It sucks.

DLC needs online authorization to work. It sucks.

We know it needs authorization, but according to Bioware it only needs authorization ONCE. After that the game should be activated and we should be able to play offline.

I was wondering whether this explains why you still get notifications for "new" bonus content that you've already installed. (I got excited the first two times, only to find the same three redeemed Cerberus/CE downloads in my profile.) But it seems the notifications are always displayed... so on top of fixing the activation, BioWare will also have to allow us to mark Cerberus messages as READ.

Can we move the discussion to this thread instead? I don't like the big ****SOLVED**** in the title. If a dev happens to finally look at these forums, he might think that the problem is taken care of and not even look at the thread.

mmm... It's strange... I've solved the problem playing some minutes online and saving it (with the autoconnection option disabled)... The next time I've started the game, offline, it started properly...

Do you have any DLC installed? And could you load the savegames from your online session after having started with NO internet connection at all? (simply switching off autoconnection is not enough to verify the solution.)

Please confirm:

1) ZERO internet connection. I'm talking "plugged out at the wall" nothing.

2) DLC content installed and authenticated

3) Succesful loading of a savegame with 1 and 2 above checked.

The problem is that there is actually no way to check what DLC is authenticated or not in ME2. It's an obvious authentification issue - but I know for a fact that my entire profile have been reset numerous times. This is a problem, because every time it has reset my profile, it also reset my authentifications.

This would cause problems if you cannot constantly re-authentificate.

If the DLC content shows up in the game, that should give a clear enough indication that it's been installed and authenticated. After that, it's just a matter of checking if the content loads offline as well. I could play just fine using my vanilla profile, but could not switch to a DLC-enabled profile without internet.

Whether the authentication
just doesn't stick or my profile is being reset everytime doesn't make much difference. I'm trying
establish whether the game is supposed to check online. Is it a kind of silent DRM, or a bug?

The fact that people have been getting different results points to a bug, if you ask me. DRM shouldn't be so erratic (although that's possible - but then it's a DRM bug).

I´v got the same problem with DLC on PC-when I was conected to internet DLC works, when I start game with off connection-no able to load save with DLC and message to validate DLC appears (allredy validated before). Fuc****g thing. Resolved by starting game with net connection, load save game with DLC, whenn still running game press alt+tab to desktop and turn off internet connection.Back to game, then back to main menu, try loading save with DLC - OK, then turn off ME2 and restart, still working DLC in off-line mode (no more message to validat DLC). I don´t know why this help, but for me this work.

Yeah, I found this by mistake when I tripped over my LAN cable and broke it during play. Went back to main menu while the net was off then exited the game. I made a copy of the BioPersistentEntitlementCache [Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect 2\\BIOGame\\Config] and kept it safe, now whenever I'm away from the internet and play, I just paste the BioPersistentEntitlementCache back in and it loads all my DLC offline.

It seems that going to main menu while offline after you verified your DLC to play in the first place creates a BioPersistentEntitlementCache for offline play.

OK, I've checked the workaround above and it seems to work for me as well: (Note, BPEC = BioPersistentEntitlementCache.ini)

1. Start game online, play DLC content
2. Cut Internet while playing
3. Save game
4. Exit to Main menu (It think Zeandar is correct that this is where a new BPEC is created)
5. Quit game, make a copy of the offline BPEC for future use
6. Now I can start the game offline with no DLC warnings; games seem to load normally.

PS. Out of curiosity, I switched EA autologin and reporting back on, and it doesn't seem to make any difference if they fail to connect - as long as you use the BPEC created in step 5. The crucial internet check occurs at the main menu, regardless of those two options.

Yes, the DLC entitlement check occurs in the main menu, and is independent of your EA account login settings. I sniffed the traffic a while ago and can confirm that.

Keeping a backup copy is crucial then... in case some day EA decided to purge the data for ME2 from their authentication servers, and you want to replay ME2 with all the DLCs.
