Keep getting renegade points upon freeing Jack

Going into the final battle against the prison boss, I've got no renegade points. After killing him, I have a dialog with Jack in which I keep choosing the non-aggressive options and tell her she can read the files. Once we get to the ship, I give her the files right away.
A window pops up which tells me +2 paragon points, and while I may indeed be getting those, as soon as I check my info in the squad screen I've got a very small amount of Renegade points now. I've tried a number of different dialog options here and I can't figure out where these renegade points are coming from. Is there a non-violent way to deal with the prison boss, or something?

I also seemed to get extra renegade points when choosing class evolution (nemesis in my case).

I'm playing as Para also, but there have been a few times where doing the "para" choice gave me renegade points.

That said, there were times when I took Renegade actions if I felt it would help with the mission (for example, the interrupt where you kill the engineer working on the Gunship when recruiting Archangel). So as someone said earlier, I believe it's more "Renegade in regards to Cerberus"

I'm of the opinion that a "pure" run in ME2 simply isn't possible. For example, when I helped out Mordin right in the beginning? Lo and behold, Renegade points. I'm thinking that, due to the setting and story, it's impossible for us Paragons to be "pure" Paragons. Remember, the world isn't so black-and-white anymore.

Yeah, I share the sentiment. Given choices I'd save the innocent, but when people shot at me and I'm given a chance to decide their fate at a cut scene, I'd either injure them or shoot them (like Harkins, I let Garrus shoot him in the leg; and in ME I shot Fink in the head).
I guess it made some sense that you'd get renegade points for saving Jack. After all, you are recruiting a felon, even though you liberated her from other felons.

Like the scene where you find Garrus, and are looking down the sniper scope at an oncoming mech. Apparently, it's a renegade action to shoot an oncoming enemy in the head - a NON-LIVING ROBOT enemy, mind you - but it's A-OK to wait five minutes and shoot him outside of a cutscene.
I played pure Paragon in all my previous ME1 playthroughs, but this time, there's stuff that just demands Renegade actions.

Yeah, some of the points where you get renegade points in this game are pretty silly.

Well, Renegade decisions are more "impluse decisions" than "thinking with your head". So the choice to shoot the mech when Garrus hands you his gun is more 'Shepard made a snap decision, which comes off as being impulsive' kind of thing.

Maybe the renegade points are actually for letting a whole station full of criminals out... I mean we shut down the locks, releasing everyone, killed the guards, took Jack and left everyone else there to die and/or escape. Seems pretty Renegade to me all by itself.
This is what I think. I was later disturbed by getting the creepy e-mail from a psychotic killer Shepard had released.
