It doesn't even extend to the LIs exlusively. My DudeShep killed off Ashely in ME1, so I had Kaiden. When I ran into Kaiden he's all pissed off at me. I was like, "Dude I've only been awake for like a week!"

Yeah I was hoping that there was going to be an option to tell ashley that the afterlife has poor reception.

I'm hoping there isn't any reprecussions from moving on from your Mass Effect 1 love interest other then possible hurt feelings on your former paramours side.

Shepard and his new crew are about to save the galaxy (AGAIN!)

Crew member:  Shepard!  We need those codes or the world will implode on itself!  The only person IN THE UNIVERSE that has those codes is Ashley Williams!  I sure do hope you guys are friendly so you can convince her to give them to you otherwise we will all die!

Shepard:  *facepalm*

Yeah, I can understand how they'd be angry and upset. The person you love was dead for two years, then pops up and doesn't try to find you again, and then when you DO find them, things are so different now between you and your former significant other that you might as well be two different people. Not to mention the possibility of having replaced you with someone else.

While it is certainly sad, it shows the enormous power of Bioware to exploit the Video Game Caring Potential trope in their games. I'd even go so far as to say Bioware is likely the master of that trope.

Hey, that's a good point, Redem0. Shepard's in a unique position to answer some key questions.

The devs indicated it will be mentioned.  Just imagine an angry confronation.  Frankly, it seems the ME 1 romances moved on and if I am about to go on a suicide mission I am not sleeping alone the night before.  They can deal with it in ME 3.  Anyway, I like the akward confronations!

Considering how BW wrote the ME1 LI's dialogue and interactions, these characters would have no right to be upset with you if you started up a new relationship in ME2.  None.  They didn't stand by you, after all, so they have no right.

"I didn't see your dad either."

That would be worth some renegade points.

You're mad at you're ex, and there's a pile of opporunities sitting around you. I thought this was one of the most clever things they've ever done.

Only problem is YOUR not mad at your ex, they are mad at YOU. I dont feel any of the ME1 LI's are worth worrying over, they arent loyal. (except Tali and Garrus)

Luckily for me I had a playthrough with no romance carryover.

Well, mentally and emotionally, Liara is a teenager.

I keep forgetting that she's little more than a child, so yeah, I can see her taking the loss really hard.

Liara wasn't so much mad as pre occupied. Ashley/Kaiden were mad. I was pissed at any of them who wouldn't join, which played into bioware's trap... (Except wrex... he had a good reason and was genuinely happy to see me.)

Liara is sharing a bunk with Zaeed in ME3, Ash is stuck between wrex and grunt.

When it comes to Liara, I really don't understand where the "she's not loyal" and "she didn't stand by you" comments are coming from. For all the times Bioware beat us over the head with the "THEY MOVED ON!" stick, it's obvious that Liara hasn't moved on. If it wasn't for her inability to "let you go," Shepard would be hanging on a wall in a Collector ship, instead of running around saving the galaxy.

Yeah, but that part of the backstory isn't in the game, but in the comic book or on the Wiki.

meh i always saw the ME1 romances as flings, You have what..3-4 conversations and a tumble with them, people tend to seek comfort in times of crises, It was nothing more than that.

2 years passes by, no wonder they have moved on.

I think Ash and Kaidan were more hurt and confused than anything. I think the anger came during the conversation not because they were really angry with Shepard, but because their head was spinning and they couldn't really think straight.

Think of it. You're Ash, and standing right in front of you suddenly and unexpectedly is the dead man you love. I can't imagine anyone being graceful or articulating how their feeling all that accurately at that point.

And Ash IS loyal. But she doesn't know if this is the Shepard she knows. It's one thing to come back from the dead. It's another entirely to come back from the dead and do a seemingly complete 180 as far as loyalties. That was a lot to process for Ash. And she's kind of ruled by her emotions and lets them get the better of her sometimes.

Kudos to Bioware for reminding us that there are people and relationships worth fighting for even when it's not all sunshine and roses. That's kind of what I took from it.

Agree, the only person I can understand who wouldn't be able to join Shepard is Wrex. Simply for the fact that he's practically like a king now. And he has to get his people ready for the future... i.e the Reapers.

I just can't wait for ME3

Actually it is. If you ask her about her anger toward shadow broker she tells you everything. How she had to take your body back from the shadow broker before he handed it over to the collectors.

It troubled and hurt her a lot to have to hand Shepard over to Cerberus given their reputation. But Cerberus told her they could rebuild Shepard and in her own words she said she "Couldn't let Shepard go." She was reluctant to reveal this info because she thinks Shepard would hate her for her decision, which is why she seemed so distant when meeting.

She's not hunting the shadow broker just for her friend, but also for what he was going to do to Shepard which she says.

I have to say I was impressed. I loved that Kaiden questioned my femshep. I like that he's confused and angry. I mean talk about tearing open an old wound. Can you imagine the guilt he must have felt with him surviving and her dying? He must have been livid at Joker. I get why he's weirded out by her working with cerberus ... with cerberus re-animating her. I mean think about it, its creepy. Really creepy.

I thought the photo in the captains cabin was a nice touch as was the follow up email. I had every intention of femShep romancing Thane (who is marv in like every way) but once she saw that Kaiden's picture had been turned face down.. she marched down there and broke it off with Thane. I was really touched by the way she regarded the picture before heading through the relay.

So yeah... it was really well done and I'm glad Kaiden stood his ground. FemShep needs someone who is a leader in his own right, someone who doesn't feel like he's going to wither in her huge shadow. Oh... and someone who doesn't have a kid -_-. StepmomShep FTL.

Well in the comicbook, Liara goes looking for us before our remains get in the wrong hands. Read the comic book and you will understand a whole lot.
