Clever or not, they're putting way too much stock in the ME1 LIs. Some people didn't romance any of them because they didn't like the choices they got, so the whole "testing your loyalty" thing is not applicable. Not to mention, regardless of whether or not I understand they're point of view, if I'd been in a relationship with someone, died, came back two years later and that was the reception I got...I'm sorry, but that's over in my books. I don't owe them anything, certainly not my faithfulness to a relationship that's quite clearly not there anymore.
Even as we're supposed to understand their point of view, as a supposed significant other, that blade cuts both ways. They should be making an effort to understand Shepard's circumstances - not throwing a tantrum and running away. To me, that shows a complete lack of trust.
Tali trusts Shepard and Shepard's judgement despite Cerberus, which to me is the trump card. She's making Kaiden and Ashley look bad, I don't care what anybody says. To be honest, this whole drama/angst thing is so overdone from the romantic angle that I could vomit. It's the most common thing in any love story and it really needs to go. All relationships have there little problems that need ironing out, but they're not all some catastrophic event either. One would hope that these people, supposedly being adults, would be more mature than that.
But back to the fact that I didn't want to romance any of the ME1's LIs and would like for my ME2 LI to have as much relevance as the ME1's. I'm not cheating on anyone, so why should I get penalized?
I've got more loyalty to the comrades that have been with me since the beginning, i.e. Tali and Garrus. They'll follow you through hell and back, no matter what, because they trust you. I can't help feeling more empathy towards them. They've got a bond that's unparalleled, having been through, not one, but two adventures together with the last being suicidal. That kind of loyalty is unmatched.
