I would have defiled them if it would have meant I could have killed Arl Eamon's whole stupid family off as a result somehow - oops Eamon gave you the poisoned ashes by mistake, ok Isolde lets try that blood mage sacrifice thing, Connor - yes you are a kid, but even my 6 yr old knows Demons are bad! bad boy! bad boy! off to the nut house for you!

But I'm guessing that taking the option to defile the urn withut taking a pinch of ashes first means that Arl Eamonn is doomed, and the game is broken?

You take a pinch first - then defile the rest.

Rather then defiling them, you should have had an option to take them all. I mean they are obviously pretty powerful and useful. And this would be an "evil" option that would make more sense then just being an ass and putting dragon's blood in them.

My Warden is Dalish and I defiled the Urn. You can do it secretly and the Chantry will still say that Ashes weren't found. Reaver specialization is quite useful - exactly the first two talents.
I think that you do bigger evil when you preserve the Anvil. After you find the Urn, you must choose which religion you dissapoint.

Resurrection of four-year-old threads, now that is just evil...

I just did the Urn mission with my human noble and I defiled the Ashes (Morrigan, Zevran, and Shale with me. I got a warm feeling when they all approved of me deciding to work with the cultists). In camp, I only got confronted by Wynne while Leliana said what she would normally say if you didn't defile them. Is there a delay between destroying the Ashes and Leliana finding out about it?

If she's hardened and not present she won't care. If she wasn't hardened you should have had to make a persuade check already.

I didn't even have her approval high enough to unlock her personal quest.  I'm guessing this is a glitch then.  I honestly don't feel like reloading the save cause I already revived Eamon and I'm at Orzammar.
