i too would have preferred a nice shiny box. i wonder how long it will take to download i imagine quite a long time. NZ boardband network is not exactly known for its lightning speed. But im still happy that we are going to get it. Wonder if the release date will be the same or will we be in for a wait again?

Unfortunately I guess we all know the answer to that.

Seems a shame as us PS3's over here are still awaiting RTO never mind awekening!!

Can Bioware not change to the DLC on Disk instead of download of the store. One or the other and I'd prefer the disc.

I play on 2 seperate PS3's so I would have to download twice instead of inserting the disc on whichever machine I am using to play.

Pal users might want to check compatibility: if there are no issues, you could import the retail version instead of buying it as dlc.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I assume the disk copy just reads your Dragon Age save to continue your game?

I'd like if someone from Bioware could confirm or deny this, as I do not like spending €40+ on DLC, with no guarantee it will be there to play next generation, or even 10 years from now.

And also, that rule from Sony is bull. What about Burnout Paradise, Siren: Blood Curse, PAIN, Wipeout HD, Warhawk, Socom: Confrontation, GTA: Episodes From Liberty City.

All those games are available as both a Download, and as a Disk here in Europe.

I think the games you cited are both in discs and download because the two versions was released in different moments, wipeout HD it was a dlc only when it was released the first time, after some months they released also the disc version.  The rule says they cannot be released at the same time but there is no rule to prohibit BioWare for example to release first the dlc and after some time also the disc. That could be an interesting option that should permit the ones who lacks a decent high speed connection and won't buy the dlc version to wait some time and purchase the disc version directly.

The problem I think is that SCEE in this rule should also put time specifications rules , i.e.g. : "if the content is released through dlc/retail it must pass X days/weeks/months before a retail/dlc version can be released".

It could be useful to read the full SCEE rule and to have a response from BioWare if they intend to release also a disc version of the game when they can do it and personally I think they should do this because they will have earnings also from the people who cannot download Awakening in acceptable times or people that simply prefers to have a disc , for example for the valid reasons told by GulfWarVet  ,  zy1054  and from other users in this topic, and also because (I don't know if someone else already told it) if some time in the future PSN decides to remove awakening from their store, and suppose you had a problem with your PS3 HD and have no working backup, you won't be able to download it again also if you paid  40 $ or 40 € ( yes another shame is that also if 1 € = 1.5 $ we have to pay it 40  € ) and this is kind of unacceptable.

Not an afterthought at all. We are simply not allowed to do both a DLC and retail release in Europe, and so we had to choose one distribution or the other.

I really really really really wished you had chosen retail. x.x Will this change along the line?

I may write to sony about this. Why can't they let us have a choice? The 8 language thing is a load of rubbish, plenty of games have multiple langauges with subtitles. All our dvds do as well. 0_0

I think that anyway at some point in the future they will be able to release also in retail for europe, other games that was released as dlc had after some time a retailed version (like wipeout HD) or vice versa, some games released for retail became also available on PSN (like bornout paradise).

The point is : how much time should pass between the two releases respecting SCEE rules ?

If there is such a rule it will be useful and right if we can read it fully from official playstation europe site, they are talking about a rule that we don't know and which we cannot read, we cannot be sure this rule exists and also if it exists we can't know any detail about this rule.

Saying we cannot release the both version at the same time is vague, if the rule contain only this phrase BioWare could release DLC on 19 and retail on 25 of the same month. But realistically I really doubt that this rule will allow this thing.

Wait, so IS there going to be a disc release in Europe at some point? I can imagine a lot of people who don't know this ahead of time to see the PC and XBOX boxes on the shelf of awakening and go: but where is the PS3 one?

I only said that in the past there were two games that had both versions :
Wipeout HD and Burnout Paradise.

The rule in this vague form anyway says : "we cannot release both dlc and retail at the same time" .

I only told that is possible, not that BioWare will do it or when they can do it or when they will do it.

I wish they would give confirmation. I would really like to buy this game. I'm proud to show off my games. I like having a game instruction manual. 0_0 I would actullay like to play this game, why do I have to be denied? I'd happily pay full price for it too. If the box version was out. say on the 25th of March--that would actullay be fine for me.

I said that date (25th of March) but I really doubt that could be possible to do so because of SCEE rule, I think that such a rule will never allow to release the other version the next day , the previous day or some day after....

I really don't know, only SCEE and BioWare and other software houses know it and since I'm a normal user like you I cannot say anything more I already said.

Technically the fact is not that we cannot play the game we want but that we cannot purchase the game we want in the form we prefer.

I don't see why having it as a download is a problem, lots of stuff is download and not physical nowadays...

Because the DLC versions of the Episodes differ to the disc versions in subtle ways, possibly? I think the disc versions, from what I can find out, have more music and you can't do a multiplayer game between the DLC and disc version of The Lost and Damned
Awakening will have the same content in DLC or disc form, and as such it'd be subject to SCEE's policy.

Awakening should be released on disc for PS3 alongside Xbox and PC versions in Pal areas when they come out. I know there's wide support for this, so why isn't it happening? It's more popular than the DLC option.
