Ok, my problem is like this:

When I fight the Praetorians, my game crashes.
I manage to pass the level if I kill them quickly.
Same thing happens on a station where I have to shutdown a VI,  on the Science lab part, with the mirror plates.
I managed to pass the lab by doing it very quickly.
But the part I can't pass is on the derelict Reaper, at the Mass Effect Core.
When I get close to the core, it starts doing something with blue lightning, and on that part my game simply crashes.

The similarity in the cases is the blue lightning:
The Praetorian shoots the lightning from it's eyes.
In the Science lab the beam is the lightning.
The Mass Effect core emmits something very similar to the lightning.

Please help!
Thanks.

have you tried reinstalling the game? is this before or after DLC packs?

I'm having the same problem; it happens regardless of presence of DLC packs (with or without, I still get the same crash).

II haven't gotten far past the Praetorian part, but it actually only crashes the game when I am looking at him/it when he casts the blue beam. If I'm turned around and he does the blue beam, it hits me but my game continues fine. I was able to get past this part basically by running in circles and never looking (via camera) directly at the Praetorian.

theres another topic here, and it seems it might be an issue with nvidia cards or something. but a guy on that topic just turned his settings down to low (turn everything off, even in the config tool) and it didnt crash. I actually just tried this and it works. It's not too big a deal, just turn setting back on when that parts over. still, this needs to be patched

I am have a similar problem with the fight with Garm in archangel's hideout. I'm using Vista

Processor: AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual Core 5500+ 2.8GHz

Memory: 3 GB

Graphics: 512MB Nvidia 8400

I know my graphics card is listed as below minimum but the game seemed to be working fine up until this point. I've seen other posts on similar problems and am curious to know if mine is because of the game or my card.

Turning all of my graphics down completely and even running the game in a window has done nothing for me. This is really frustrating because my system has run the game flawlessly up until this point. What the **** bioware?

this game really pisses me off. i have the problem, that i cant play in fullscreen mode, since whatever ****** made the config tool didnt include the option to fis the refresh rate and somehow it always says out of range (even if the chosen resolution is supportet at 75hz in wondows for me), but ok, at least i can play. but now, i cant play ANYMORE! goddamn them, why cant they release a finnished produkt? i will never BUY any game puplished by EA/Bioware again, ecept they take over Blizzard, because they know, how to make games, which are actually playabel and worth their money. and i spent my money for the collectors edition of ME2 and DA, damit...

I've found the solution for this problem.Just don't shoot that Praetorian, run around and hide behind the boxes while those canons are shooting the ship.In 3-5 minutes the ship will fly away.Mission complete :)

I also have this problem. In the second fight vs a Praetorian, if the Praetorian damages me with its beam weapon and I can't see its eyes, my game crashes. I had a crashing problem with the first Praetorian which seemed to solve itself.

I'm running Windows 7 with a single core AMD Athlon 64 3200+ and a 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX. For the rest of the game I've had smooth performance with everything but motion blur turned on. When this problem happens, it doesn't seem to matter if the settings are at lowest.

If you're having trouble getting past the first loading screen (after you import a character for example) and you have a single-core PC like I do, download the single core fix ( http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3G1IU38K ) which replaces the loading screen with an empty graphic. Apparently something about the loading animation causes issues with some single core computers.

I got dual core.. and I've been playing far enough to get to the citadel, now I cant even launch the game. Meaning, I get the initial launcher, but when I press play, I get "Mass effect has stopped working" and it shuts off

http://social.biowar...852966/1#870001

I made a thread about it.

It happens to me at random times, then I go back there after I reboot and it runs fine. ATI 7800 series, Dual quad processor. It also gives me a Windows memory error after it crashes.

Ah god damn it. Im getting spoiled so much by people saying names here. I wish Bioware would get a fix ready so I dont have to read these threads anymore -.- By the time this game got a fix, I know everything already without even playing the friggin thing

As per the 'how to report a problem'. I get constant crashing within 30 seconds of starting the game.

Game: Mass Effect 2, physical disk from play.com
MassEffect2 version 1.0

Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz
2664 MHz
3.24 GB RAM
ATI Radeon HD 4850, 512 MB VRAM
CATALYST 10.1
Realtek HD Audio output, 5.10.0.5672

Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 3 (5.1.2600)
DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009) or later

Problem:
Screen goes completely grey / orange / green with vertical lines. PC totally unresponsive to anything other than hard reset at this point
Occurs after about 30 seconds of play in game when under direct control of character, not cutscenes.
This happens every time I start the game including from cold start after computer has been off overnight or whatever and also after rebooting after the last reset...
Specific action to cause it is not clear

This occurs even when I set the game to 800 x 600 res and all the video settings either off or on minimum and run it for the first time when the computer has been off for a while. Also tested windowed, same thing. System temps remain around 40-45 C

Memtest etc all run fine without any issues

Needless to say, any other recent game is absolutely fine running at 1920 x 1200 with all the settings up to max e.g. MW2

edit: it only happens when moving around. If I stand still and don't do anything it's all good, well, apart from the gameplay experience of course! It can also happen when pressing shift to pause the game and get the HUD up but then right clicking and moving the view around.
