As the title says I don't even get to the splash screen. I just get a message say Mass effect 2 has stopped working.

Win 7 64 bit
GTX285 with latest drivers
Core 2 E8600

I've tried Vista SP 2 compatibilty mode and disabling visual themes with no joy.

All other games work fine and all drivers are up to date.

Windows log file doesn't really help much:

Faulting application name: MassEffect2.exe, version: 1.0.1593.2, time stamp: 0x4b2845cd
Faulting module name: MassEffect2.exe, version: 1.0.1593.2, time stamp: 0x4b2845cd

Any ideas?

Thanks

I had my computer system actually shut down. I was playing it for for the first few minutes then a loud pop in my tower, and the power shut down. Turns out I had to replace my power thing at a cost of 140 bucks. Poor PC never stood a chance

against the greatness of the video game

I'm having the same problem.

Windows Vista 64 Home Premium
Intel I7 @ 2.67 Ghz
6 Gigs of RAM
NVidia Geforce GTX 280

I just uninstalled all my Nvidia drivers, including the PhysX, and reinstalled them. Didn't work. I'll try reinstalling the game now and see what happens. Currently the game is installed on my D: drive, not the normal C:\\Program Files location. If a reinstall in the same location doesn't work, I'll try installing on the default pathway.

Reinstall didn't work, but I did notice something odd.

I've got three DVD drives on my desktop. I had the Dragon Age: Origins disk in my X drive (my drives are XYZ) the first time I installed ME2. I put the ME2 disk in the Z drive, but when it came time to insert disk 2 it would only accept it in my X drive. Now I had moved Dragon Age to my Y drive and installed with the ME2 disk in my X drive, but it would only recognize disk 2 in my Y drive. I'm about to reinstall without the dragon age disk.

To be continued...

Eureka!

Removing my Dragon Age: Origins disk completely fixed my problem. After a fresh uninstall with only my two ME2 disks in, the game installed properly without a hitch. Still, that's a pretty huge problem if I'm installing ME2 through the auto-play menu and it uses the DA:O disk by default.

I have the same problem. The game worked fine, but today, it asked physx from me. I installed the physx from the second disk. Now, the game is running, but only the title screen appear. When i press the button, to the main menu, the windows say, "Mass Effect 2 stopped working" and (of course), it didn' find solution and the game shut down. I tried to reinstall the entire game, but it still didn't work.
Can you help me, please? :(

Okay. I figured it out, and i hope, this help you also.

I re-installed the game, but at the uninstall, i don't keeped my savegames. When i started, it worked again. Then I tried to put back the old saves, but the error was there again.

So... it was the save-file. I started a new char, and begin the game again (i planed it... so it's not bad, for me, but i think, others not). I don't know... is here a topic, what can explain this problem?
