 Hey, now I've played quite a bit, but I've never really used Shale much. When I have come back to Cadash Thaig after all the main quest lines (no sidequests in Denerim though) I only get Flawless Crystals, and I've heard that you can get Brilliant Crystals, which are better. So...

1) Do you have to be a certain level to get Brilliant Crystals from Cadash Thaig?

2) What level do they appear?

3) Is there any other way? If you give Shale a Brilliant Ruby, as a gift, will you get a Brilliant Fire Crystal in your inventory (never thought of that until now!)?

I just buy them from a merchant in orzimmar when you get to a high level enough, he spawns random ones everytime you enter orzimmar. It's the merchant with the lyrium-crazyness.

You can find them, but they aren't easy to locate.

The best ones are the spirit crystals. .)

Spirit Crystals gve you spell resistance and + on all attributes. If you're tanking you probably want Nature, as they give massive CON boosts. Fire boost STR, etc. Hardly anything seems to resist Spirit Damage though, and I love the blue/purple fire effect it has.



In answer to OP, I find Brilliant Crystals start appearing around levels 17/18, with increasing frequency the higher you get. The first timeI did Cadash Thaig I didn't get a single one. Heck, I didn't know they existed until I went on the wiki and saw them.

I always find a lot of them in Thaig Cadash, but I tend to do that part of the game quite late... I always do Orzammar last, and Shale's quest can only be done after that.
