I don't understand Teagan's hair. I mean, just how long is the braided piece, that it can go all the way from his part, loop behind his ear, and still be ever so slightly longer than the rest of it?

Ha, I liked the line somewhere after (I think) the first offer of the earring when he tells you that he's been confused ever since you first invited him to your tent. I was like, oh really?

Ah, see, I took that as meaning since she invited him after he fell in love, and that's why he was rejecting her.  My characters rarely invite him, they generally wait to be invited.  It's not a prudish thing, I just like the offer of the massage.  Though even if you do wait until he asks, you have to ask him for subsequent visits so the way you view it works too.

I like the poetry reading.  The first time I heard it I was just, ICK!  Until he said he was only trying to cheer her up because she looked so unhappy.  He just sounded so awkward there; when he calls her lovely, you know it's not a line because it's the first time he sounds completely unsure of himself.

I meant that I genuinely liked it...having him admit that it hadn't ever really been a casual thing for him, even though he tried to pretend otherwise. Very "Squee!"

I liked it too.  I loved his entire declaration of his feelings -- it's one of the most heartwarming moments in the game. Just an intensely romantic and heartbreaking moment, when he's finally melted and nothing but the raw emotion is coming through.

I love the poetry reading! It's just sooo awkward. I've seen posts that sound like people think he's being serious with it... I don't know if they really think that, but I always saw it as a bad attempt at a joke. And considering how easily jokes usually come for Zevran, watching him cringe his way through that is just delightful.

Also, it seems like something he actually put some thought into- I think he knew perfectly well that it was the absolutely wrong time to be be spouting out obnoxious sex poetry (I mean the relationship is already on a totally different level than the seduction phase), but what else could he offer? He's been so dependent on seduction/sex/humor to get him through things that I don't think he'd know how to express his sympathy in a more serious way. So he purposely used something he knew was ridiculous to cover for his inability to express his real thoughts.

Whew, long-winded. Just got that chat this morning so I had lots of thoughts about it.

Ooooh, I like your thoughts too!  And yes, it's got to be the most awkward moment in the game -- the skilled seducer and player, suddenly on unfamiliar ground.  But that poem IS bad.  I just call him a saint among men and crack up.

Edit: Ok, I'm going to romance Leliana because, well, the poetry reading just works so much better when you're forced to dump someone, and Alistair is not an option for me this game (HNF, seeing if a 100 warm Alistair will marry her for political reasons, and if so, becoming the true tyrant, I mean ruler, of Ferelden).

Second edit: And yes, I know he will marry at love, adore, and friendly.  I'm checking warm, and I'm sure he will, and I'm sure this will be the most powerful Cousland yet!  But Ali's been known to surprise me before!

I must say, having the Alistair dialogue patch really has made romancing him all the better. As well as gets rid of that irritating bug post landsmeet where he still thinks he's king, even though he's not. As well as the other irritating bugs dealing with conversations and choices with him.

A shame that players/ameteurs have managed to fix a major gameplay problem before Bioware ever got around to it.

Ah well, at least he knows it's bad. And you have to give the man some credit- when he first heard the poem it was in a completely serious nature. So while you're free to crack up as much as you want, he didn't have that luxury! Good-natured, indeed, dear Zevran.

I'm with you on preferring an unromanced Alistair for the HNF. Somehow this game has spoiled me to any sweet, innocent love I have for him... I still love his character, and I still think he's a great guy, but I can't imagine having an HNF who's self-serving enough to steal the throne yet somehow loves Alistair of all people. Out of curiosity, I'm guessing you go with an unhardened Alistair? I'm planning on hardening him--my HNF goes from severely disliking/looking down on him to at least respecting him and seeing some strengths in him--but does that affect the outcome at all? I still want her to hold power over him...

WARNING: END GAME SPOILERS

Oh, hardened and unhardened makes a difference.  This time I'm not doing his personal quest at all.  My last play through was a city elf who had Alistair at -44 hostile at the end (way up from the -100 he sunk to) so no Goldanna at all.  She became chancellor and all I can say is . . . WOW!  I don't think a hostile Alistair will agree to marry the HNF (though I will try it at some point), but I already know a non-romanced Alistair gives the best HNF card as far as her being ruler, but for some reason, I want both that card and the chancellor card where Ferelden can't do a thing when she's away on personal business.  And I am a bit curious whether there's a third card (I doubt it, but I can hope).

Oh, my last play through as well, I also managed to completely destroy Arl Eamon, both personally and influence-wise (Redcliff was greatly diminished in power; therefore, Arl Eamon lost most of his influence).  I was horrible, and that was another card I had never seen before.  I'm not sure I'd go that route again, but it is an interesting option.

Edit: Besides, what's the fun of a royal wedding without a royal scandal!

Wow, how did you manage the Arl Eamon bit? Does it have anything to do with aiding Redcliffe?

Seriously, this is spoiler time

Yes, it has everything to do with saving Redcliff.  Basically, I refused to help the village (-5 Alistair), made Isolde kill Connor, and chose to become Chancellor.  Eamon ended up with nothing at all because of my Warden, except an Arling that was a ghost town.

You are so right on that. I've got Dialogue Tweaks and the Alistair Patch. Such a difference. And it gets rid of Alistair's ghastly responses when you click on him, too. Much nicer ones now. :D

So evil!
That sounds like about the path I was going to take with my Dalish,
too. So it looks like she may end up with some fun cards. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/angel.png[/smilie]

Which Alistair patch do you use? I haven't used Dialogue Tweaks just because I have about a million other mods that interfere with it, unfortunately.

Sad thing that Alistair doesn't speak up about his home town nearly as passionately (basically, not at all) as Zevran does about saving the Dalish or the mages or else they might have been spared!  (*grin* to keep this on Alistair Vs Zevran of course)

Would be nice if there was a way to get Eamon out of the picture if you save Redcliffe, in addition to romancing, hardening, and marry Alistair. I don't like that he's hanging around.

If you really are an Eamon hater (there are a lot of them), or even a Eamon disliker, it's worth doing it that way at least once and taking a screen shot of the ending card.  The Alistair approval loss is minimal, but you do have to listen to Bann Teagan yell at you, which made me put that game down for a couple of weeks before playing it again.  THAT hurt a lot.

Edit: Excess quoting

I use the latest Dialogue Tweaks 93a, which has been pruned a bit so that it's now compatible with more mods. And I use the Alistair Dialogue Patch by Lady Olivia which is right here:

social.bioware.com/project/1545/

Edit: For those who'd like to look at it, DT is here:

www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php

I also liked the look of Endgame Dialogue Fixes. It isn't compatible with the Alistair one, though, so I had to choose. Or, to be more accurate, the Endgame one has two folders - one has the dialogue (which isn't compatible), the other has the fixed endgame cards (which is compatible, and can be used on its own).

Well, YOU have to become chancellor to get that particular card.  Just say at the end when asking for your boon that you just want to continue to serve the crown.

I love DT because it lets me smooch with Zev & Leliana anytime I want. As well as fixing quite a lot of dialogue bugs. It's simply not fair that Alistair gets all the kisses and Zev misses out.

You can't request that . . . It's a given.

Edit: There are other things you can request, but Highever is never in the equation.  It's assumed it stays with the Couslands.

When you say something along the lines of wanting justice for what Howe did, Alistair (and Anora, I think) strip the Howe's of land and title. How is it assumed if you don't ask?

edit: I did finish, so that's why I'm confused about it being assumed that you get it back.

Fergus is alive, he gets Highever.  You're stripping Howe's family of their Arling, and it gets awarded to the Grey Wardens anyway.

Edit: Much editing. Sorry!

Second edit: You getting Highever before Fergus is known to be alive is a given.  Even Anora acknowledges that when asking for your support.  You ARE a Cousland after all, and that is why the marriage with Alistair makes sense.  You are, most likely, the Teyrna of Highever (again, no one knows that Fergus is alive), second only to the Theirin bloodline.
