Those dialogue tweaks look really good. I cringe now that Alistair has switched to "something you need, my dear?" Like HNF and he are an old married couple instead of young lovers who think they're going to die any day. Feh!

Fergus is alive, he gets Highever.  You're stripping Howe's family of their Arling, and it gets awarded to the Grey Wardens anyway.

Edit: Much editing. Sorry!

In the feudal setting, I'm still wondering if getting conquered (which is basically what Howe did) is enough to let his family have Highever. I suppose it's too much to hope for an epilogue card about Fergus reclaiming Highever if you don't ask?

Ah, okay. I may do that to see the card, but as an HNF, I want Highever back.

You can't request that . . . It's a given.

Edit: There are other things you can request, but Highever is never in the equation.  It's assumed it stays with the Couslands.

When you say something along the lines of wanting justice for what Howe did, Alistair (and Anora, I think) strip the Howe's of land and title. How is it assumed if you don't ask?

edit: I did finish, so that's why I'm confused about it being assumed that you get it back.

Second edit: You getting Highever before Fergus is known to be alive is a given.  Even Anora acknowledges that when asking for your support.  You ARE a Cousland after all, and that is why the marriage with Alistair makes sense.  You are, most likely, the Teyrna of Highever (again, no one knows that Fergus is alive), second only to the Theirin bloodline.

Second reply: oh, I didn't know that. Probably didn't pick the right dialogue from her. Okay then, no worries about Howe.

Thank you!

Yep, makes all the difference in the world. And, as I said, the latests DT works fine with the Alistair patch. I checked with both before installing, and now have them running in tandem. Such a difference. I haven't gotten to the endgame yet since installing, though, but based on what I've seen so far it should be a major improvement.

Edit: The Alistair romance is much sweeter now - more in keeping with how it started, instead of switching into old fogey mode as soon as you've had sex.

They still have Highever.  Fergus takes it back.  Anora said, when talking to her, that goes without saying.  You have the support of at least one Bann to lend you military aid.  You do not need to ask for this as a boon.  It's a given that you get it back.  We're talking . . .The Couslands!  Just like Alistair has a claim to the throne because of Theirin blood, you have Highever because of Cousland blood.  This is the oldest family of Ferelden.

And you don't get a card no matter what.  He tells you he's going back there and asks you to come visit.

Edit: Even King Cailin, before he met HIS end, was going to get Highever back.  Only Loghain supported that move.

Yep, Howe gets his.  You can further punish his family, but it's made pretty clear that his family had nothing to do with his plans and scheming.

I use the latest Dialogue Tweaks 93a, which has been pruned a bit so that it's now compatible with more mods. And I use the Alistair Dialogue Patch by Lady Olivia which is right here:

social.bioware.com/project/1545/

Edit: For those who'd like to look at it, DT is here:

www.dragonagenexus.com/downloads/file.php

I also liked the look of Endgame Dialogue Fixes. It isn't compatible with the Alistair one, though, so I had to choose. Or, to be more accurate, the Endgame one has two folders - one has the dialogue (which isn't compatible), the other has the fixed endgame cards (which is compatible, and can be used on its own).

Thanks for the links! It does look to be more compatible with other things now. I have EDF installed, but then, I haven't gotten all the way to endgame recently to see it in action. :P

And pretty soon this discussion will have to become Alistair vs Zevran vs Anders! Assuming, of course, that he is a romanceable character... I'm really hoping he is.
Although, really Bioware, dark-haired guys are nice too... Where are they?!

Yeah, I feel kind of bad for Thomas (?) losing Amaranthine. It wasn't his doing, after all.

Oh, if Anders is romanceable, he's worth starting an Orlaisan . . . My current wardens, they're faithful to the end.  But . . . oh, he looks . . . interesting!

Mine will be faithful too. But one of them is going to be deceased - since I plan on doing the ultimate sacrifice - so that will be my Orlesian character, hehe.

What can I say? I played that whole game waiting to get revenge, and just killing Howe didn't seem like enough.

I
wish we knew more about Thomas. I think it could be interesting if he
really is a decent person brought down by his father's greed. Maybe
we'll see more of him later on?

I'm leaving some characters open-ended in the romance department for this reason. Plus I like trying a different romance each time. My CE is completely faithful to Zevran, so I'll have to hold back on some things. Funny how she and Zevran, two of the least sexually exclusive people ever, have ended up in a completely dedicated relationship. He really is just that good.

Assuming Anders is an option, though, he'd be perfect for my HNF. I don't personally agree with the talk he's another Maric bastard child, but it would be funny if he were, so my HNF could be in a political marriage to Alistair while having a side fling with his half-brother...

Alas, I just want to find out more about this expansion!

(I'm going so OT. :pinched: )

Considering Jack swore to Howe he'd kill his wife and daughter, making them penniless seems a poor payback.

However, I have an unwritten fanfic in my head where he sneaks into their room to kill them, but changes his mind.  Zevran's hanging out on the street, having refused to help because he knew it was a bad idea. . .

The only thing that's stopped me from trying these is the mention that the epilogue is changed and a couple of other things that sounded like changes to the types of dialogues and actions available. I'm thinking the epilogues are the way they are for a reason, so I wouldn't want that to change, or to have things added that weren't there to begin with. Am I right that it does this?

They haven't added new things. They've enabled things that are disabled in the game (but actually there in the toolkit), have fixed faulty flags, and so on. Even all the VA is the originals. It's not adding 'new' things so much as it is fixing broken things, or at least, that's how I see it.

I very much hope Howe's family will play a role in Awakening.
One of the reasons I am looking forward to playing as a HN

I think the "Something you need, my dear," is very VERY deliberate. It's not likable, but it's certainly not a mistake. I can understand someone wanting to change it -- he is definitely distancing himself at that point. But it is adding something by changing it. However, people should definitely mod the way they want to! Heh, my first play through, that new greeting was my first clue that something was wrong!

Ah, well, as long as it doesn't change anything... There's not actually anything in the game that bothered me, including the 'my dear.' I think it's probably pretty thrilling for Alistair to feel like he's in an established relationship. ;), but it's always interesting to see what people come up with. I have to wonder how many of the 'broken' things were actually deliberate changes made as the game developed, though.

on my firstcharacter to encounter Zeveran Female Human Noble Rogue. I killed Zevran with the thought if I let him live he will just keep coming. And to the fact that he just tried to kill me i was returning the favor. As for Rogain I mean Loghain, I would never allow the bastard to live, let's see he set it up to murder my entire family, He arranged for the death and carnage in both redcliffe village and castle. Almost wiped out the mages, Betrayed not only myself but all the grey wardens and the rightful king by being a coward and fleeing the battle field. Howe wont live either, and the alienge elf killed the arl's son for what he did along with every one if his guards.

My second charcter actually talked to him [also cause on the first play through I don't know he was or could be a companion lol]. But I am just at the point where i have to go back to Red cliffe now so the Arl can call the landsmeet. 7 character and not one past that point :)

I know, I know, he's distancing, but HNF tried to break up with him for the sake of the kingdom and he concluded with "I'll leave you alone, since that's apparently what you want." It was too depressing to be that flat about it. *reload*

*cough* guilt trip *cough*

LOL! I just like the way Zevran handles breakups better, without the guilt trips (guaranteeing a reload from me since he gives just basically a kind word, lets you know it's ok, then a HUGE approval drop).  Until, of course, he falls in love.  But watching his soul get ripped to shreds in all fairness is NOT a guilt trip -- it's just someone who just got destroyed.  If a breakup caused Alistair that kind of emotion, I would feel horrible about breaking up with him and in fact would probably keep his romance going more often.

Of course, the difference is you've become Zevran's whole world.  Alistair for the most part cannot devote that much of himself.  And that's not necessarily a bad thing.

But Alistair puppy-eyes... they are the harbingers of doom. My HNF is going to sacrifice herself so Alistair can be king and she won't have to see someone else be queen or put the Calenhad succession in jeopardy. *sigh*

The way I figure, if the taint isn't hindering Alistair's ability to reproduce, then it's not going to hinder mine. Thus, no reason for me to go killing myself.

Are you referring to making yourself ruler without Alistair?

Seriously.

It would be nice to romance Anders, especially since I'm secretly hoping he's Maric's illegitimate son. The other one. Though I don't know if we have time for that in the Awakening. Unless it's a... quick one. :P

Yeah, except for those negative approvals you get all the way to the guilt trip. Like when you want to kiss Alistair in front of him and he's all like "Go ahead, I'm fine." and then you get hit by a -3 approval. Per kiss. I don't know if he handles break-ups better, or just hides them better.
