Yeah, except for those negative approvals you get all the way to the guilt trip. Like when you want to kiss Alistair in front of him and he's all like "Go ahead, I'm fine." and then you get hit by a -3 approval. Per kiss. I don't know if he handles break-ups better, or just hides them better.

Hides them better.  For sure.  No guilt trip.  But he feels it, majorly.  That's the thing, he's TRYING to keep it shallow, but it just isn't working out that way for him!

It is hindering his ability to reproduce.

Except that Morrigan left pregnant, or my PC would have died on top of the tower.

As part of a dark ritual. We don't know how much that conception was enabled by magic. We do know that the only wardens with children were ones that had them prior to becoming wardens. We know that it would be very difficult for a warden to have a child--not impossible, but rare. We also know that when two wardens are involved the odds of conception would be so remote as to be virtually non-existant. Again, not impossible, but really, really unlikely.

It has occurred to me that it's unfortunate that Morrigan left. She might have known some way to increase the probabilities without the actual dark ritual, and without having to be a participant herself.

True, but it 'hinders' it doesn't completely prevent conception - yet. From the voice of god (David Gaider), the taint makes conception rare - and it becomes harder to conceive the more time goes on. Which is why Morrigan must have a recent recruit - Alistair, or pc, or Loghain - for the ritual. Even magic can't help her conceive with a long-time Warden. Which is why Riordan won't do.

Two wardens together is a double-whammy. You go from unlikely to conceive - to impossible. Or as DG has said, not possible by any 'natural' means.

Well, I was going to try to think of more excuses, but since god spoke I have nothing left. In my own mind then, I'll pretend they get help from the Circle.

edit: Not to mention that I need to read whichever book has Fiona going to Tevinter to find out what that was all about.

Heh, Zevran even tries to make your enemies feel good about themselves.  One of his battle lines is "Ooh, nice swing."  LOL

Yeah, I haven't read the books yet. I'll have to pay a huge postage to get them where I live. *sigh* Anyway, as you can tell from my paraphrase of DG, he didn't rule out 'unnatural' means of conception. So we need another magical ritual or potion or something - or a miracle. Where did I put those Ashes again?

Susan, try here for the books.  Free world-wide shipping.  :)

Edit: updated the link to help a friend out.  Still goes to the Book Depository, just search for the Gaider books, they pop up by author name.

Hehe... no kidding. I thought we were just working from Alistair's limited knowledge of the Wardens, but Gaider's word is law.

If you live in the U.S. you can download them in eBook format from Barnes & Noble.

Thank you, I'll check it out in a while. :D I suspect that the exchange rate will kill me, though. I'll bite the bullet and get them from a SF/fantasy store I use in Sydney, but I'm a bit strapped for cash right now. I bought DAO, and I'm saving for ME2. The books will just have to wait. They're on a list with about 6 other books I want right now.

[Edited for stupidity on the part of the author.]

Oooo! Free world wide shipping! It's the shipping that kills me--usually costs as much or more than the books. Thanks!

There's a UK version too, if that helps your exchange rate problem any. Certainly living in the US has its pluses - I drove to three different bookstores in one evening to get my hands on both books at the same time. :-P Why no, I'm not obsessed...not at all...

@ Sandtigress: Thanks for the link again. I just checked it out - and I've ordered them - and one of the others on my list. Eek. ME2 will have to wait now, lol.

@ Monica21: Thanks, but I live in Oz.

tonight I had my first serious bug in game, which crashed me. when i came back into game (luckily I had just saved) Alistair was naked, and initiatied thanking me for taking him to Goldana. We then had the lick the lampost talk. Doing that one with a naked Alistair REALLY adds to the tingle factor :-)

So, anyone know where my armor is ? I also lost a sword, and for some reason the Warden's Keep icon is no longer showing on my map. I'm hoping I don't have a serious problem with the game....

Starfang (which Alistair had equipped) randomly disappeared in the middle of Lair of the Werewolves the other night. Luckily I had a save just one fight before, so I reloaded and it reappeared. I didn't check the map, so I don't know if the entire DLC was being hinky or not.

I just saw the "Anders" preview. Well now, if he is romanceble, that would be another nice first for video game romances for women. An apostate mage? Well now, that opens up quite a few nice twists and turns, especially if the PC is not a mage herself.

The PCs who romanced Zevran will not be played in Awakening, if he's not there, and I suspect that he won't. So for the sake of my RPing in DA:O, I'll have to run a PC through without her romancing anyone, or make an Orlesian Warden.

Is there any actual confirmation that Awakening will have romances in it? I've found none, but maybe someone else has.

No, there's no official confirmation yet. But, seeing as how his description alludes to him enjoying the company of women, I'm very much inclined to say he will be romanceable. Which would make me happy, because I'm pretty much in love with him.

I don't really mind if Zevran's not in the expansion, although it's a little sad. I only have him romanced on my CE, and those two just went traveling together, so I can imagine that she had a feeling they would end up separated for awhile. We'll see how it plays out, but I'm hoping for the best. It's a good thing that girl's so darn attached to Zevy boy, otherwise she'd be seriously conflicted about romancing another human...

@ Nonvita

There's a description of him? Where? All I've seen is the preview. But then again, I've been avoiding most threads/vids/etc. about Awakening for fear of running into major spoilers. But if you know of any character descriptions without major spoilers, please, let me know :)

I don't think his description has any spoilers, and I think you will appreciate it. :)

Many mages chafe under the Chantry’s control, and Anders is no
exception. Although most mages are brought into the Circle at a young
age, Anders was an adolescent by the time the templars found him: he
had an understanding of the outside world and knew full well what he
was missing. To him, the walls of the Circle Tower were nothing more
than a prison. A born troublemaker, Anders repeatedly broke out of the
tower, displaying great ingenuity. But for all his resourcefulness and
talent, he could never quite elude the templars. It’s a lucky thing
that Anders despises blood mages as much as the Chantry does, else he
might have been executed as a suspected maleficarum long ago. In truth,
all he wants is freedom--well, freedom, a good meal, and a pretty girl
on his arm. That’s not too much to ask, is it?

Oh, nice. Thanks Nonvita. Given my personal player reaction toward the Chantry (hate them), and that description, I now hope that he is indeed romanceable.

I also hope that somehow the Chantry is forced to relax their stranglehold on the mages, and that someone is smart enough to realize that they have a strong standing army, and also realizes that they pose a definite threat. As Alistair says: "They (Chantry) want to make you believe that they (Templars) are just there to control the mages, but believe me, they're an army."

I doubt it'll happen, but I can dream, can I? :)

Yes... there are confirmation.... Melo in his IGN intyerview says about new companions:

"Very interesting personalities all over again -- it seems that's what we thrive on, and personally, I really enjoy the party members in Awakening a lot more. You have everything from foil characters that are there for comic relief and banter all the way to characters that have more sexual tension with other party members. It's kind of humorous to follow their attempts. There's definitely going to be a lot of richness to the characters you meet. "
