I'm just hoping the RtO DLC wasn't an indication of devs to change certain NPCs, and play-styles. Sorry, but Zevran was OOC. A silent -3 for depriving the darkspawn of their trophy? What?

Wynne was..., well, the less said, the better. Alistair was remarkably blase about Ostagar, especially because he constantly breaks down in mental anguish when just only hearing someone say "Duncan" in the OC.

The PC looks anguished and sad at seeing Cailan. Really? Would a dwarf feel that way about a human king? A dwarf might feel bad about Cailan's fate, but not regard Cailan as "her/his King".

A dalish? Especially one who told Cailan "You are not my king, human." Mine would take Cailan down for various reasons, but not because she thinks he deserves special treatment. Or a CE, who had to suffer greatly under Cailan/Anora. Would she really be all broken up over "her king"? I very much doubt it.

What about my HN rogue who told Duncan point-blank that she thought Cailan was a fool? She would take him down, she would call him her king, but I can imagine her shaking her head sadly in an "I told you so" manner, not all broken up like the PC in RtO.

Yea Rt:O was a huge wtf moment for me (I posted in another thread about it).  Had Zev in my group and he disapproved of me dispatching Cailan with a pyre to the tune of -5 points.  Definitely not like my lil' buddy at ALL!!

As for who I prefer to romance, I have to say I like Alistair best.  I like to be "courted" and I get that feeling with him, that he's a bit unsure and doesn't want to push himself on my PC.  And if you wait for his personal quest to be done before the tent scene...what happens blows my mind every time. Physically Al is my type, and I LOVE SV's voice!!  He's a well written, flawed and interesting companion.  (I always harden him, boy needs to stand up for himself more).  His humor is a deflection of a lack of self confidence stemming from all the crap Isolde/Chantry etc put him through as a kid.

For me Zev fits in the "best buddy" category so sweetly.  He's always fun to travel with (First time I did Fort Drakon I combined Zev with Dog for a really funny sequence of events).  He's humorous and savvy and has some good ideas about what to do on your PC whereas Al really doesn't have much input in that area.  Aside from the above mentioned OOC thing, most of what I do meets with Zev's approval.  As far as romance goes though, I find he isn't appealing physically and his voice...umm fake Spanish accent...not appealing either.  The Rinna talk also came for me WAY too early in the romance and it just felt like it was too soon.  IF you make him a friend you feel like "WOW I can't believe he just told me that.  We have certainly come a LONG way".  Unless my conversation with him was bugged, it just felt fake, forced.  That sense of closeness and bonding wasn't there.

I love both companions but Alistair is my love, Zevran is my lil' buddy.Posted Image

i know Alistair only sleeps with females same as Morrigan only sleeps with males.
Leliana and Zevran sleeps with both sexes.

as for Zevran hes not that loyal as he can turn on you after the Landsmeet if he dosnt like you enough.

It's funny about the talk about his last mission, how soon he tells a warden he's romancing (71+ adore as opposed to 91+ friendly, so after the Taliesen encounter if not romanced). Which, to me at least, throws all ideas that it was ever a casual relationship out the window. The only reason it comes early, though, is because his approval raises SO quickly if romanced. I try to keep it slow. I mean, I can have Alistair propositioning my Warden immediately after one treaty, so it's more a pacing thing. Usually I'll ask about his final mission quite a bit after it becomes available as well.

I understand why it's where it is if he's romanced, though. It's just crazy how quickly (and without bribery) he falls, at least, into adore.

If romanced, Zevran will not turn on the warden, and since this discussion is about romance partners, it has little bearing on the conversation.  And Alistair has his disloyal moments as well.  I've had him dump my warden publicly, and I've had him leave my party for good.  ALL characters have their moments where they're not loyal.

Edit: And I'm not sure what Lel and Zev being bisexual have to do with being loyal to the Warden.  Bisexual does not imply unfaithful.

Alistair has never dumped my PC regardless of what race she was.  Thats why you get coersion/cunning up.  Plus he will remain with you even if you are a complete **** and get his approval to -100.  There is no option to tell him to leave.  The only time he leaves is when you let Loghain live but everyone has their breaking point.

Zevran is so easy to make friendly if you just stick him in camp and never do anything with him, well ummm yea he WILL turn on you at the Taliesan point...but why would someone do that? why not just tell him go if you don't want to get to know the companion.  His approval doesn't have to be that high (I think if hes neutral he just walks away from the fight?  not sure, hes always at +100 for me by that point in the game).  Also of all the companions (aside from Alistair) he *Edit* is one of the most loyal, asks if you want him to stay after the AD is dead. Sometimes I ask him to, sometimes I set him free...with a promise to come back and see me from time to time!

Oh, I know HOW to keep Alistair, my point was not that.  My only point was that Alistair CAN be disloyal, even he has his points, as Zevran can be as well.

Ok, here is the story on Zevran and his encounter with Taliesen.  If he's neutral, he will side with Taliesen (he may, I haven't confirmed this, fight you at very low warm as well -- like below +33, but my guess is it's below +26).  If he's warm or adore, he will fight with the warden.  If he's interested or at care, he MAY refuse to fight Taliesen and just leave, but you can select an answer that will have him fight Taliesen as well.  IF he leaves the fight, you can ask him why, and you can ask him about his relationship with Taliesen.

Edit: To be clear, Zevran leaving the encounter is a romance option only, and only if he's at 70 care or below.  It's an easier fight, though, if he leaves.  You have far fewer crows.

Zevran has to be around 26+ (or +31) warm/interested to not turn on the player. That's very low approval. Be polite, not rude. The PC doesn't have to agree to everything. Just give him his gifts and talk to him, and he'll either fight for the PC at 26 (could be 31) warm or at 71 adore romanced.

If romanced, he'll leave the fight below +71 adore, but he will not fight against the warden. He'll be back at camp with an explanation.

I actually don't really know the lower numbers, because by the time the encounter happens my PC is usually above +71 adore. She has trouble keeping him low, actually, even though she refuses the tent. He rises that quickly.

Yea I can't imagine anyone still having Zevran as a companion and NOT having his approval at least up to where he won't turn on the Warden and of course if romanced by that point it should be +100. He's very easy to get along with in any capacity.

You can pace the romance so it's 70 care or below. Some people keep it at that deliberately so they don't have to choose between him and someone else and also don't have to take that huge Zevran-breakup-approval drop. I know the one time I had him that low to see if that was the leaving trigger, I had several dialogs left and all his gifts. But it's an interesting conversation to have -- well worth trying it at least once.
