You have a game with Alistair at -100? Oh my....
Well, if you ever get the motivation to play that one out, please post about it.

Yeh, I was incredibly mean to him, but having Isolde kill Conner and then when he yelled at my PC for killing Conner, I answered, "Well, technically, Isolde killed Conner," and I got even harsher than that resulted in a -32 drop.  I wonder how much of a drop it actually was -- that -32 got him to -100.  I actually started to feel very bad, but I loaded that game up, and I have to admit his greeting at hostile is quite funny.

It's also the game where I finally got the four-way at the Pearl.  That has got to be one of the funniest moments in the game.  Poor Leliana.  She actually is a sweet character, if a bit stalker-ish.

<3Zevran. Always and forever.<3

My first character (who has since been deleted since I chose archer - yuk!) got affectionate with both of them. In the beginning, it was Alistair's accent that roped me in (can you believe Steve Valentine hasn't even played DA:O?! He's a vocal sex symbol and doesn't even know why!) and was the typical "Knight in Shining Armor" but after talking to Zevran, interacting with him, having him in the party, when the time came for me to choose, I didn't even have to think about it (admittedly, Jon Curry is amazing too, I could listen to him say 'I am yours' all day long). And I've never looked back, nor do I plan on ever romancing any of the other characters - ever.

Everything that could have been said about Zevran's romance I think has already been stated, in various ways - he's a a knave, a lover, a killer, a hero. When he offered me the earring and said it could be a proposal - I couldn't accept fast enough. Only once, in all my play throughs, have I asked Zevran to stay behind at the gates, telling him that I loved him - and his 'Cruel to the last' and the expression on his face broke my heart in a million different way - and we've never again been apart. That's why I find the idea of Awakenings so... I don't know. Knowing that there's a 99.9% chance that Zevran will only be appearing as a cameo makes me wonder if I even want to bother.

Hats off to the Bioware crew for creating him, though. I've never been as attached to another character in a game as I am to Zevran. His romance is just as fairy tale as Alistair's, just in a slightly different way.

If Zevran can't come with my PC, and be an integral part of the extension, then I'll build a new one. Say hello to the newest Orlesian Warden.

My favored PC (my beloved Amazon, oh what an experience this play-through is) is not going to leave the love of her life behind.

Hey Ejoslin, I did the Anvil, and I had no choice but to have Zevran disapprove (-1) because I was too deep in the deep roads to turn back without wrecking my RPing. Because Shale was with me, I had to side with Caradin. I love Shale. I don't want to lose her, she is far too funny.

Anyway, Zevran dropped to 99 but the 'love' didn't flip back to 'adore'. I'll tell you, that's the bestest glitch ever. Here he is, not even halfway to the Taliesin encounter and totally in love. He doesn't even know it himself, only I, the all-knowing deity knows for sure :)

Oh, that cruel to the end.. dialogue. I actually stared at the monitor, and then I reloaded. Can you believe that? For a game character? Lordsamercy!

Apparently he's married but his wife hasn't played DA.  If I were her he'd probably dump me because I'd tell him "use the Zevran voice!" all the time. . .

Ooooh, just don't raise it back up by going to the tent.  Give him a gift.  It's the raising it up with the tent that drops it back.

And yes, I reloaded the one time I tried to leave him also.  Between that version of the dark city speech (wow, his voice is so sad and tender) and the "cruel to the end," line, there was no way I could leave him.  And since I hadn't been playing him, his gear was crap.  But it didn't matter.  I figured I would drop the difficulty worst case scenario, because that elf was by my side FOREVER!

Oh, she is a lucky woman.  I absolutely love his voice.  I think it's sexier than Steve Valentine's but that may be just because I find Zevran sexier.  Don't get me wrong, Alistair's voice is enough to make anyone melt . . .   Heh, even Sten sounds kind of hot, though.
Actually I've gone through the game with him as friends only, with all the dialouge options availeble just to see different reactions to dialouge given certain events, that's why I said it seems like he is crushing on the female warden, given that they are in good standing anyway. he actually does say a few cute/sweet lines to her even if they are 'just friends', but it could be me misinterpretting those lines since i dont know if he says them to male wardens.
Without knowing which lines you're referring to, I couldn't say for sure. My only complete playthrough has been with a male warden, but I have 11 characters at various points along the way. And I have to say, based on what I've seen so far, that outside of a romance there is very little if any change.

My male pcs are still really close to Alistair, but things that sound 'flirty' when said to a female just sound 'friendly' to a male. I think we can read into things too much. It's possible I'm missing something of course, but really, so far, the evidence points to it being subjective. We interpret into his behaviour what we want, or like, or whatever. It may be that 'family' thing. Alistair talks of the Wardens as being like a family. If you're female, even when not in a romance, it may seem that Alistair's actions which are meant to be brotherly give the appearance of a crush.
Well I do think gender has something to do with the interpretation. I mean take take Daveth - as a guy if you say "Watch my back", he's cool, a brother in arms. As a woman, he's a pervert. Posted Image So yeah, things do come out more flirty to females than males, but that's also why I said some normal lines would magically switch on the romance.
Hmmm, it is easy to turn the romance on with any of them, but it's also easy not to.  I just get the feeling that Alistair and the Warden are best friends if you don't turn on the romance.  Alistair may want to fall in love and he may be travelling with this fabulous woman, but if you don't turn the romance on, it doesn't feel like a guy in puppy love.  And really, all the romances are very easy to accidentally turn on, and depending on how late you turn them on, you may end up with someone at 100 love at the very start.
Well it's also just that he's attract to women that it comes out like that. I mean look at Leli. She's attracted to both sexes, and I've been blinded a few times myself. I think it's a natural thing when you don't pay attention because you aren't interested. After doing a few runs through the dialouge and different answer trees I can see more of her hints/crushing. It could also be more obvious with Leli than Ali because of the "hair" dialouge being one of the triggers for the romance.
I do know if you marry Alistair and have never romanced him, you do NOT get the impression that he is pining away for his queen.  If he's romanced and dumped, however, you do get that feeling.
well i'm not sure how you have done it, but i've done it a few ways. Pining is not what I would call it, for sure, but more like awkward? I mean i've done just the plain friendship marriage, i'm been in love status and broke up with before the archdemon, i've started it out as friendship then started a romance after the landsmeet, etc. what i do think though is that he wants his marriage to work, regardless of however the proposal is made.

btw crush =/= pining. i think that is like two entirely different levels here. pining would be like what most swoopers do over alistair and i do not mean to imply that his 'crush' is at that level.

Ok, ToH, we'll have to agree to disagree. If you marry him as a friend, at the end it does NOT have to be awkward. Just tell him you're looking forward to being queen. His answer will be different whether hardened or not, but that is more whether he wants to be king or not. However, if you have dumped him, you get the epilogue card that says how much he loves his bride. But his bride already has plans to rebuild the gray wardens with her love -- Zevran. If you haven't, the people love you as their savior and new ruler, and Alistair lets you do what you want.

I have no doubt that you know the nuances of the Alistair romance far better than I do. I have done it 5 or 6 times to completion, but I have to admit it leaves me a little cold knowing how it ends, so I probably view what he says with a bit more cynical of an eye. Just as you missed the significance what I felt was the most moving declarations of love in the game (Zevran at the gates) -- and didn't take one of the other ones that practically leaves me in tears as anything special (Zevran's declaration of feelings, especially the second offering of the earring where they become engaged). We see the characters differently, and experience their words differently. And that's part of the magic of the game.

Not mine.  And I've tried to start it at Ostagar -- it truly does not happen.  He stays at neutral there, it never goes blank no matter how you answer.

Yeah, me too, just to see what would happen. The earliest you can start with Alistair is Flemeths' hut. I think. I'm not too sure, but I do remember hearing Morrigan's "can GW fraternize?" talk on the Lothering brigde. Of that I'm sure.

I'm sure I missed this in the thread somewhere, but how do you initiate the love "glitch" with Zevran? I've only managed to do it once (where he loved me prior to the Taliesin encounter), not knowing how I managed it and the one since then has 100 adore instead.

And for you Zevran fans, I can't help but re-recommend Dialogue Tweaks over at Dragon Age Nexus, if you haven't seen it. Kiss Zevran anytime outside of camp! Marvelous! There's also some kinder dialogue if you wait until after Taliesin to invite him back to your tent, rather than the 'I ask nothing more of you..." you get earlier on. I haven't managed to be able to wait that long. Maybe this playthrough I will be able... to resist... his charms... will... already... wavering...

Snagged the dialogue twists the moment they came out, practically. I love the newest version, where the party members comment. I feel like kicking Wynne in the shin for hers, though :D

As for the 'love' thing, Ejoslin explained it somewhere here, but unfortunately it's a long thread. Let me try it, but save and reload, because it happened with out even trying for my amazon.

She asked him about his last job (Rinna), but he wasn't ready to talk about it yet. She didn't press him.

Zevran didn't get sexy-time with her, she felt it was too soon for the 'massage'. Refused politely, and not off-putting. I'm sure she used the line "we're not alone". He took it gracefully and the romance was not turned off.

Your PC has to have high approval with him, I think in the higher 80s. With my PC, he was at 100 adore, when he talked to her about Rinna (the 2nd time, and this time he tells the whole story), and the next time I looked at his bar, it said 100 love. I was pleasantly surprised, giving that the only main quest we had completed so far was the mages.

If all else fails, we can just wait for Ejoslin. She'll know, lol.

Unfortunately, the love glitch seems to be different for all characters! You do have to be at adore, but I've had it as low as 88 love. I thought it was related to asking him about love, but Sabriana blew that theory having it switch over before going to his tent. I do know this, if you do get it to glitch and you're below 100, if you try to raise it by going to his tent, it will drop back to adore. However, if you raise it by giving non-quest gifts and warden-initiated conversations, it will stay at love. Once it's at 100, you're safe.

Ever notice, if you don't have him at 100, you don't get the "Si, Amora" and "I am yours," when you click on him, just the friendly greetings? I've also noticed with Alistair and Morrigan that you get their love greetings at 100 friendly (It was a shock when Morrigan said, "I am yours,' which incidentally sounds very different coming from her.)

I did notice that with Zevran, but I didn't know it about Alistair and Morrigan. I've to try that immediately. My PC is a woman though, will that make a difference with Morrigan?

My amazon finally finished off Taliesin, and refused the earring, because she wants it to mean something. She has realized that she loves Zevran, and wants some reassurance back. Stubborn elf, rassafrassin' consarn it!

He got angry with her, not much, but the situation is a bit awkward. She's pondering ways to mend the rend. Perhaps asking him to her tent will do it? Hmm, I wonder what will happen, lol.

Heh, no, my PCs are almost always women, which is why that one was such a surprise.

*grin* I love that RP.  I'm having so much trouble keeping Zevran in the friend zone this game, and keeping Leliana in the love zone.  So she finally stayed up writing in the journal with Leliana . ..  that tent scene is obviously the same as it is for a male pc and does not work at all.  I guess Zevran is the only one who gets a different cut scene for different genders/races.  I suppose you could read something into that if you chose.

Talk about having your cake and eating it too.

I had that happen with Oghren and Alistair. I wish I had a screenshot, it was really funny given their height difference.

Haha, speaking of glitches, in my first game when Alistair gave me the rose, Zevran was right in front of him, so it was like Alistair had slipped on a Zevran sockpuppet or something. It was pretty funny.

Anywho, I prefer Zevran. With my second PC the romance was much more fun because at the beginning they were just friends with benefits (my HNF wasn't shy about sex or dirty jokes), but as time went on, they sort of accidentally fell into a relationship. It was really sweet. If I have time, I am also planning on romancing him with my DNF.

I'll say it again . . . Zevran + Dwarf Female = the best kiss in the game. It's definitely worth rolling a dwarf for that alone, and if you're wanting to play a dwarf anyway, even better.

I have never played a dwarf in any other game.  Someone else here had mentioned how good the kiss was, and since I wanted to do all the origins, I figured, why not.  Just make her as beautiful as possible (and that can be extremely beautiful -- the developers did a good job with that).  I still am not that crazy about playing a dwarf, but they can be pretty sexy.  Plus, the dwarf noble can easily be the richest character you ever play, from the very start, actually, but moreso once you advance in the game a bit.

I've had no interest in playing a dwarf beyond the origins except for this. Unfortunately I couldn't find a video of it on youtube, so it looks like I inevitably will have to do a quick runthrough to get it (my elf will be very jealous!). At least, like you said, you can make quite attractive female dwarves in this game. I like that, actually- pretty dwarf women are probably the biggest departure from typical fantasy in the whole game. :P

Do dwarf nobles really get that good of stuff? I just tried out the "Of Noble Cast" mod on my HNF, and it was very nice getting to Lothering with plenty of gold and some very decent gear!

It's not that.  It's that, well, remember Gorim in Denerim?  You knew him in Orzammar.  Oh, and sell any promisary notes you get!

Oh, and that kiss . . . lasts at least 3x as long as the elf one . . .  hah, and all this build up, and I swear you won't be disappointed anyway.  It's the reason I've played dwarf noble and casteless to the end.
