Hey guys I'm playing through on insanity and I'm wondering if anyone has any tips.

Obviously for those new to the game squad tactics (positioning, loadout, power usage, etc) are key but there are a few situations that are painful, controller throwing, festivals of annoyance (most recently continually spawning krogan room en route to the lab, split-bridge area).

Suggestions?

For vanguards I always found it helpful if you avoided being flanked. Other classes need to shoot the person flanking, but vanguards can use him for positioning. You want everyone in front of you and in a strip for the shockwave. That particular part is shockwave heaven, particularly when mixed with throw.

For tips with your current game we would need to know what class you are, skills, etc...

yeah I guess that would make sense but I meant general tips...started the thread for everyone's benefit.

Personally I went soldier first time through since it was the class I had the most difficulty with (it's all about the challenge.)

My roommate is doing vanguard and it definately looks interesting, he raves about shockwave.

Seems a lot of strategy on this mode revolves around patience too.

adept NEEDS heavy warp for busting down shields and armor. ahh... getting grunt his immunity + health boost lets you throw him in the middle and everyone chase him around while you pwn

Playing as a vanguard, I've found the greatest challenge on insanity being to remove the protections (armour, barrier, shields) from enemies, since most crowd control is rather ineffective versus protected enemies. Therefore, make it a point that your squad has capabilities for taking down all variants of defenses since you never know what you'll be up against. Since you die very easily I find offensive, disabling strategies work better than defensive ones focused on tanking damage.

yeah, I know what you mean especially in situations where you have more than one target with some nasty shields. Insanity is definately love/hate but a lot of fun most of the time.

Lots of advice to add. In general, it's all about strategy. Some missions have one dominant way to beat the challenge. Anything else will likely get you killed. Combination of dumb luck and strategy.

When you get past the first part of the Collector Ship mission, the rest of the game feels like a walk in the park by comparison.

Use your wingmen, Husks and other trash can be AoEd down, remember that for missions with a lot of fodder, select people accordingly. Also, keep it simple, don't keep checking for mobs to use powers on, that is inviting disaster, use them IF the opportunity is safe but otherwise just shoot stuff. Guns > All in ME2. Most of the fights that last a prolonged period will have an ample supply of ammo around, occasionally you may run out in your Assault Rifle, but that is what your pistol or SMG is for. Your pistol or SMG is still going to be supperior to your powers for most of any given fight (shields, armour phase) though less so than an Assault Rifle.
