Read the back of the box? No seriously. I find that games never run very good at the bare minimum that they suggest. I'm very close to the minimum right now, and the game runs fine on medium settings. After about an hour or so of play I need to reload because it just starts to get so slow.

Here's the bottom end:

Windows XP Minimum Specifications
OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 Single (or equivalent) running at 1.6Ghz or greater
AMD 64 (or equivalent) running at 2.0Ghz or greater
RAM: 1 GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X850 256MB or greater (either this is wrong)
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater (or this one is wrong)
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

(Note: IMO, the two video cards above should be the Radeon X800 Pro, and the Geforce 6800 GS, at least)

Uh i dunno about making it run at its absolute best, but i do have EVERYTHING turned up and i still run at 60FPS all the time just about....:

OS: Windows 7 64-bit

CPU: AMD Phenom X4 9850

Video Card: Radeon HD 4870

RAM: 4GB OCZ DDR3 1333MHz

Display: Acer 23" Display at 1680x1050 Resolution.

HDD: 500Gb eSATA Seagate Barracuda

Built the system myself from scratch for around $600 - $700 by buying all the parts from tigerdirect. Dunno if that helps your question any though =\\.

Nah, i just ordered all the parts i needed ( i left out the 1000-watt PS and what motherboard im using, if you'd like i can include that) But everything all together cost me $600-700 (this includes the chassis, PS, motherboard, and fans) in all, and i didn't pay any shipping and handling because i ordered it all together. Any order over $100 is free S+H in the U.S.

You can probably get the parts cheaper now since I put her together around Halloween. Only thing I might change/add is that you don't really need W7 Ultimate if your not a power user, home premium is enough for the typical gamer i would think. I'm also thinking about adding another 4 gigs of ram since 64-bit you can add quite a bit.

It took me maybe an hour to put it together and i've forgotten how long to set up windows but its very fast now with Win7

On another note to save money you can order an OEM W7 in 32 or 64-Bit (64-bit i highly recommend since it handles RAM and processing better) much cheaper than say a full retail version of it. OEM's are one time uses on motherboard's for 6-month periods if i remember correctly. But if you make a system image of you're computer on an external hard-drive you should be fine and not have to ever do another clean-reinstall should anything happen.

Well i fit helps any theres several things i do for a setup:

A) Create a spreadsheet with:

OS, RAM, Chassis, HDD, CPU, Graphics card, Power supply, Drives, Fans (especially the CPU fan)

B) Make sure your Motherboard and CPU are compatible

C) Make sure you have a fan that wil 1) Fit on the motherboard, 2) is compatible with the CPU 3) wis recommended for the CPU

D) DOUBLE CHECK that your PS outputs enough power for your system.

E) Read the motherboard, CPU, and PS instructions for installation, just following the directions provided with these three pieces will walk you all the way through building your own computer. Its how i first learned :).

F) Lastly I cannot stress this enough, READ the reviews on products, it may have a great price tag but be a complete pieve of crap. Never go with a 1 or 2 star item and be very picky about 3-star items.

A good tip for a first time builder is to look into Bare-bone PC Kits and compare the game you want it to run (in this case DA:O) to the Recommended System Reqs of the game and forum intel you can gather. Bare-bone PC Kits often include the following: Motherboard, CPU (sometimes with a fan already), Power Supply, Chassis, and usually Ram. This way you only need to buy additional Ram, OS, Video card and fans. THE GREAT thing about Barebone kits is that their prices are usually phenomenal and you can get great deals on them.

That's a universal problem, not just you.  There is several pages of complaints in PC support.
