That looks just like Oghren to me, It seemed like he was one of the few choices they had. From my ending Zev, Oghren and Leliana only really had the potential for traveling with the Warden as they were the ones left with the kind of "I don't know I will see what I am up to" kind of endings. But just think about it if it isn't Oghren then we will probably get another Dwarf who is either a Drunk or a Political freak... I'll stick with Oghren before I have to get use to another one, and besides he works well with my Berserker.

Yes. Oghren was awesome, but definitely NOT a favorite. Hmm, Bioware you're marketing is no longer fooling us!
Since Me2 turned out better than expected, tho, I won't cancel my pre-order this time . . .

"I rather miss the whole Dark-Spawn killing thing" Alistair
Also, Bioware will likely go with a cannon ending, as do many other sequels, Fable 2 had the bad ending be cannon, for example... And it looks like if the PC sacrificed he/she comes back as a ghost. Now I will be mad if they spoil my marriage tho.

If you look at the cast of the main companions in Origins, as well as the comparison of the various voice actors that portray them, it seems only obvious that Steve Blum would be the most cost-effective choice.
Take for example the voice of Alistair, Steve Valentine. The man has been in a lot of famous shows and other media, including but not limited to House MD, Monk, Boston Legal, Chuck, and Crossing Jordan.
I'm sure most of you know the extent of Claudia Black's acting career (I myself didn't until I played this game). But this again shows that she was probably one of the more noteable voices lent to DA:O.
EDIT: Don't forget Arl Howe by Tim Curry... can you say NIGEL THORNBERRY?
Then look at the career of Steve Blum, who I'll be the first to admit has a fabulous resume and is probably one of the best voice actors of the video game genre. But lets face the facts: the man has been in countless hundreds of video games. Some of which of no noteable significance... Within the last ten years alone he has given his voice to different mediums over 250 times. Is it simply the availability of such a voice actor to quickly, effectively and cheaply (cheap as opposed to Steve Valentine or Claudia Black) deliver quality voice-overs that made him the returning character of Dragon Age, or is it truly because this is the perceived favorite of the audience?
Now I'm fully aware of the theory that he's the easiest to reimplement into the game (without getting into too much detail in a non-spoiler section), but I just hope that returning companion =/= character returning in a significant form. Because if the saviors of Ferelden just leave the Grey Warden and vanish into thin air when its all over, how trivial were all those bonds formed?
TL:DR Steve Blum is a cheaper voice-over option than some of the more favorited companions.
(DISCLAIMER: I love Dragon Age and even if Oghren is the returning companion I will buy Awakening, cherish it, and love it.)

Your post is quite logical and makes sense, but there's also the possibility that Bioware recorded extra dialogue while they had the "name-brand" actors in the studio. If this is the case, there's no reason that we might not hear the voices of our favorite companions, even if we don't physically see them in-game.

Doesn't it make sense that they would use a character without a big role in the original for the expansion? If it was Alistair, Zevran, Leiliana... wouldn't it just feel like the same thing over again?

And is this a bad thing?
For me (and lots of ppl from the polls), the "old favorite" is in between the two heterosexual romance interests.

As i say in another trhead I believe that clip may also be NOT a part
of your history... Do you remember some trailers of DAO showing
Ostagar's Battle ?????
What did you learn of your story in DAO by
that trailer? Nothing !! Maybe this trailer is the same thing.. And
that It shows only a clip of something which doesn't happen to you and
your party !!
It's part of the expansion and a fight we will see. This trailer is akin to the Broodmother trailer. It shows a boss but doesn't reveal the story behind it.
