I cannot believe some people still want to hope it's not Oghren. It was evident from the first trailer that it was him.

Given how unpopular he is when compared with the other party members (as shown in a number of polls now), it is not surprising that people are not ready to believe he is an "old favorite".

If he is the returning companion I at least hope they clean him up a bit and give him some real story to explore. In DAO he joins you, you do deeproads and after that his story is basically done and he becomes an empty party banther machine. Granted his has one epic quest where he has to talk to a girl but besides that his flame burned out pretty quick.
There was a connection to all of the other companions since it took time to get to know them and there was always something new to learn about them over time, this wasn't the case with Oghren his story was basically done after the Deep Roads.

I don't really mind Oghren and his party banther was occasionally funny... but I just thought he felt a little like his whole character was designed on a sticky note.

This could be just me however.

Oghren is NOT an old favorite... he's the least important and least enjoyable character for me. Not to say he's a bad companion, but of the available options, the last I would call "an old favorite" is a generic dwarf that drinks too much cliche. Every other character is grounded in some deep story driven reason to go with the warden and find redemption of some sort. Oghren doesn't even care about what led him to you. (realized this is a non spoiler section so I removed the possible outcome)

I am sick of people complaing about this.  Just because he isn't an old favorite to you, doesn't mean he isn't to somebody else.

People keep whinging about Bioware announcing him as an old favorite.  It's called advertising.  Do you honestly think that they would announce it as "a returning character that some of you might like, some of you might not"?

I kind of think of Ohgren as background noise..:)   There wasn't much to him, other than the farting and burping, occasional funny stuff between him and other team members.

I could see them making him an npc..standing around in a tavern telling tall tales and guzzling lots of ale, but other than that, there's not really any built up depth to his character.

But then again..IF thats the intention is to bring him back as a returning "old favorite"  I suppose..they  "could" flesh out his character more than it was in Origins.

I promised myself that if returning companion is Oghren and not the one I hope I will kick his *** and thrown him OFF immediately from the party...
Just as protest !! (or should I say.. just as revenge? mmm... maybe !)

^ This. I'm sure from Bioware's point of view every companion in Origins is an "old favorite" - as opposed to the other companions in Awakenings who will all surely become our "new" favorites :P.

In any case, I don't think the decision to make Oghren the returning character had much to do with popularity or with voice acting for that matter. It was based on the story. Of all the companions Oghren has the most stable ending given the various choices that can be made throughout Origins. Obviously I can't get into spoilers here, but those who have completed the game know that pretty much every other character either A) is dictated by the story to leave Ferelden at the end and/or  B) can possibly be removed from the story (ahem ahem) via the choices the player makes. The only way to lose Oghren is to intentionally make him leave, which is isn't something you really have much reason to do. And even then there is nothing barring the possibility of his return.

you are all wrong. Clearly they picked oggy because he will go mad in the end, and raise a nug-army. that we will have to fight in DA2. Dragon Age: Rise of the Nugs!

What better char to do this than a dorf? =)

What about the "They say, this march was once inhabited" sentence the article mentions? Is it Shale speaking the sentence?

That sounded like Zev to me.

I think most of us have this secret hope of seeing a cameo or at least some insight on what she's really up to but wishing for her to return as a companion is just... dreaming... no offense.

Did she gave anyone the impression that she want's to stay with the Wardens and keep fighting Darkspawn? No? I didn't think so.

Expect to see her in a sequel or something.

Well, according to the trailer Alistair will be there, but as what is yet to see. Doubt he'll be a companion. If he is king, he's probably there to help out in other ways.

I think Oghren has great potential. If you read all your epilogues, Oghren always straightens up, hell, in one he even named his child after my PC. (I like Oghren alot after that) \\o :D

He used to be the best warrior in Orzammar and highly respected, it's just that he started tumbling down hill when his wife left him for a suicide mission. Poor Oghren, I don't blame him for drinking.

But my point is that YOU are the changing point in his life, YOU are the one that gets him back on the right track. You basically save his life. And I highly doubt he'll be a drunken bastard in Awakening, but he will probably have the same humor :P

Besides, he is the only one that can return that's not also mixed up in the whole romance thing, unlike Ali, Leli and Zev. So Oghren is static, no matter your past, you were always just his friend, perhaps that is one of the reasons Bioware picked him out of all the possible ones. And let's face it, dog would be a boring returning char, as he can't talk or do anything besides ****** on trees and maul your enemies faces.

IF oggy is the returning companion, give the dorf a chance, I bet he will be awesome!

Actually he's normally the most popular character after the romancible ones (often trading off between Shale and Sten) but always beating Zevran and Wynee for sure... just check out the most recent poll in which he's trailing behind Alistair and Morrigan by less then 5 votes as the 4th most desired... of course Leliena is crushing everyone though.

I dont like the idea of all old party members just disappear. They must be involved with something in the game. Timeline is ''After some months of the final battle '' and I bet in those some months not 7 major killing machine character dissappear just like that.

About Oghren , I like him too and we will have 5 new companions too. Ofc I pick Leliana or Alistair if I have the chance but still if you dont like Oghren just dont pick him to party. I bet we will get some great warrior with Awakening as companion. And all those bonds with other characters wont be gone unless something terrible happend in those months.

Here is a Chaos scenario : After the blight remnants of darkspawn grouped up and in order to lure the Warden ( by the orders from Architect ) they ambushed old friends of Warden one by one , only Oghren survived , now he seeks revenge of his friends by joining The Warden in his quest.

Or I could be wrong with all of this. I guess we have to wait 1 more month and we will see ourselves.

And dont forget this is an ''Expansion'' patch not DA:O 2 or something so I dont think they will cut out all other companions. Maybe Bioware just saving them for the next game who knows.

Sigh... thats it I'm done defending Oghren. Guy rates mostly upper-mid to high on popularity polls, so I'll let that do the talking for me. No point in defending him anyways, any character to return save Alistair, Morrigan, or Leliana would be like wise ripped apart.

Id rather have Loghain to be perfectly honest, at least he had promise.

Sten was my other favourate...

Oghren... merh, he confused the hell out of me and lacked a dignified story, I suppose it makes sense that of all the chars Bioware decided to revamp, it would be the one that had the least interesting story.

No doubt they will somehow shape him up to make him less useless this time aswell.

Oh?

Anyway, I'm thinking Oghren will secretly be like the default 'option' for returning fav.  I mean, he always leaves the Warden to do his own thing in the epilogue, while Alistair, Leliana, and Zevran can hang around.  It wouldn't make sense for him to return in place of somebody who was actually travelling with you. /optimism

Again: if they brush up the character and give Oghren a proper script to play on, fair enough.

He wasnt really a decent comic releif and even Sten was funnier as a stout, proud arrogant git.
