It's strange. My Paragade Shep went in to the game expecting not to trust Cerberus at all, but before I knew it I was doing N7 missions for them and helping them. I refused Spectre reinstatement, and told the Council to screw off. Same with Kaidan (male Shep, no romance). I mean, I know the Illusive Man isn't a saint, but I don't believe he's a monster either. Between the Council, the Alliance, and Cerberus, I'd have to choose Cerberus.

You've gotta see it from their POV, they aren't privy to the information that you've been given and because of Cerberus past actions they will be a hard bunch to trust.

Even they those were completely different cells.

I dunno. It's just that it seems to be a trend that anytime Shepard warns the Council of anything, they start saying he's delusional. I could tolerate it the first time around, but it pissed me off when they still don't believe anything I say.

I kind of found myself in the same mindset as Garrus, I'm all for the greater good and helping people but the politics and the red tape got on my nerves enough to tell them to screw off as i did it my own way.

Atleast they are kind enough to reinstate Shep as a Spectre and tells him he is welcomed back if he severs his ties with Cerberus once the mission is complete.

Eh, it just gives me more excuse to pick the "I told you so" option when the rest of the Reapers invade the galaxy and the council starts with the "Shepard save us!" nonsense.

Hated them in the first game but saved them anyway. Hate them even more in ME2.

No I fully expect the Council to be politicians. The point is to support the system, the attempt to have an agreement between the species no matter how imperfect It is rather inevitable that political institutions act like that. I take whatever help I can get from them and do my duty.

Reinstating you as a Spectre is basically just a formality, though. You're mission takes place entirely in the Terminus. The Council offers no help at all for your mission.

Not my Paragon. I know full well that having civilians paranoid and panicking isn't going to help anyone.
I also know full well the Illusive Man is a manipulitive, lying bastard. Talking to EDI after her chains are removed confirms it. He has full control over every damnable action Cerberus undertakes.

But its a show of good faith, and you are welcomed back afterwards. Its more than the new council does.

I know.  The Terminus systems are outside of their jurisdiction anyway.

As I said I did not expect anything from them and was not disappointed.  I was actually sort of surprised I was reinstated as a Spectre because I was not aware I was no longer a Spectre.

ya, being dead for two years can have that effect.  but, i thought it kinda funny that, even though in the first game, i saved the council, they still think that the reapers are just something made up and that Soveriegn was just a geth creation.  after hearing that whole schpeel, i was like "and these are the retards responsible for maintaining peace and order throughout the galaxy?!?!?  how short sighted can you be!"

Death kind of makes you ineligible to be a Specter, lol.

What does the new council do? I always save them, though it could be argued that saving them is rather renegade since you are sacrificing many for the few.

I guess I sorta figured my Spectre status was assumed to be back on as soon as I turned up.

Next time I meet the council, I'm going to wear a reaper's head as a hat.

I'd like to see how they try to ignore me then >.>

There were 10,000 crewmen on the Destiny Ascension.  You saved far more than you lost.

I know.

However dealing with the Reapers is my job as a Spectre.  I was not surprised the Council reacted as they did.  Politically it would have been difficult to announce the Reapers are out to destroy the galaxy...but there is nothing they know to do about it as yet.  But that is what Spectres are for yes?

Granted it was a bit annoying they believed their own coverstory.

IMO, the Council is perfectly justified in not believing Shepard.

But, really, they're cardboard-cutout characters designed only for the purpose of getting the audience to dislike them and eventually experience some pleasure when they get their comeuppance. There's a rational argument to be made in their defense, but nobody makes it because that would require more nuanced writing. And this series is about anything but "nuance."

Well the end result is the same really: the council sucks no matter if it's the old one or the new human run one. if the option is there i will remain with Cerberus in the future. say what you will about them but they get things done. the council only got in the way of me getting things done.

I dunno what game you're playing, but the Council has never gotten in my way. They let me do whatever I want without harrassing me. And because they made me a Spectre, I can do whatever I want without the law harrassing me.
