I never liked either. The Council isn't democratic at all, and the Alliance reminds me of America, even if it's only in my mind.

I just like that if you need something Cerberus can give it to you.

Well the end result is the same really: the council sucks no matter if it's the old one or the new human run one. if the option is there i will remain with Cerberus in the future. say what you will about them but they get things done. the council only got in the way of me getting things done.

I dunno what game you're playing, but the Council has never gotten in my way. They let me do whatever I want without harrassing me. And because they made me a Spectre, I can do whatever I want without the law harrassing me.

Got to agree with Rumination --- That whole extra-territorial authority has been VERY useful in the past and I full expect that having it will be useful this time around.

The Council is just portrayed as a bunch of idiots. If the Council really think that the Geth created Sovereign, then they should have invaded the Geth. Considering the damage done by Sovereign, are the Council just waiting for the Geth to build a fleet of them?

I blew off the council completely. I might regret it in ME3, but they're going to be the ones squealing like a schoolgirl when the Reapers come knocking...and I'll gladly let the Reapers pick them apart, bit by bit.

Fool me once, shame on you.

Fool me twice, shame on me.

Fool me thrice, I will gut you like a varren.

Eh, it just gives me more excuse to pick the "I told you so" option when the rest of the Reapers invade the galaxy and the council starts with the "Shepard save us!" nonsense.

(OP: unclee)

I can picture it now: Reapers invade, devastate worlds all over the Galaxy, everyone is taken by surprise, the council and community are taken by a panic. Council immediately calls Shepard.

Council: Commander Shepard, you were right, the Reapers exist. They have attacked, and now we ask for your help. Please, commander, help us.

Shepard: ...

Council: Shepard, every moment we spend talking, more lives are lost to the vast Reaper hordes and their colossal might, more worlds and colonies are destroyed by them. We apologize for not believing you, but you must help us.

Shepard: ...

Council: Commander, please.

Shepard: Wait for it. Let me savor the moment. [Lifts face to the sky,a content smile splitting his face, and stays in this position for five minutes] ... I told you so.

Honestly I went ahead and chose the "don't burn your bridges option." ME2 seems to be all about making peace and getting people ready for war. You can convince the Quarians not to attack the Geth, you can reprogram the heretics to see the reapers for what they are, and the council was preparing for war with the Geth anyway. It's all adding up since the Quarians have a massive fleet, the Geth (combined) will have a massive fleet, Humanity itself still has a strong fleet, and the Citadel fleet is rebuilding itself.

Sure, I hate the council for blowing my warnings off, but I can understand why for the sake of the civilian population. That said, they won't be getting any favors from me in ME3, though I want their fleet for the Reaper war.

Grounding the Normandy for one. they might have had a slightly good argument for doing it but it almost caused the destruction of the Galaxy. plus in general they were just too thick headed on things. i also played sole survivor. i think back to what Miranda told Tali when she was mad about Cerberus blowing up one of their ships or something. it was nothing personal. i don't know the purpose of the research that was done on the thresher maws on Akuze but i didn't take it personally.

I believe its Udina that got the Council to ground you. Hes the one with the lockdown codes afterall. I view it as Udina getting in my way.... and that fool seems to love getting in my way.

If i understand things right Udina doesn't have any real power over Shepard. Spectres answer only to the council. he couldn't have kept the Normandy grounded without them backing him.

He has a lot of power over Shepard, actually. The Normandy and its crew are Alliance personnel, not Spectres. So while Shepard can't actually be officially detained, his crew can. Shepard is(was) also an Alliance marine, so while he may be above the law, he's not above his Alliance superiors.

Remember that Admiral that wanted to inspect the Normandy? i blew him off and he left.couldn't do a thing about it. the Normandy was on loan to the citadel and not in the alliance's chain of command. Anderson said it too. "your a spectre now. you don't answer to us." so the council had to have backed him on grounding the ship. thats just how i see it.

I accepted reinstatement (paragon), but I was definitely disgusted with the Alliance/Council and sick of them. That being said, I do NOT trust the Illusive Man, especially not with that evil look he had after I made the atypical decision to save the Collector base for research (still regretting it, but it wll be interesting to see what happens - and I'll replay it to blow the base up soon).

I dunno. It's just that it seems to be a trend that anytime Shepard warns the Council of anything, they start saying he's delusional. I could tolerate it the first time around, but it pissed me off when they still don't believe anything I say.

Yeah, that pretty much explains the situation with Saren in ME1. He kept trying to warn the Council about various threats, got tired of them telling him he was delusional, and finally said "**** this, I'm going to go serve the Reapers instead of you guys, and THEN we'll see who's delusional!"

I guess I expected it when I got to the Citadel. I mean these were the people who said Saren was good, and would never turn on them. Also they after seeing a Reaper in the flesh wipe out their fleets, and nearly destroying the Citadel decided they weren't real. Yeah I was a little ticked, but took the reinstatement.

This is fascinating for me, because as Paragon you work SO HARD to earn the Council's respect. I remember working to convince Ashley that they were useful, important, and worth saving.

And then ME2 hits and they're every bit as ineffectual as ever. They still distrust you after everything you did. Leaving you no other choice but to work with Cerebrus, an organization that any paragon will loath and distrust.

I was tempted to blow them off, but becoming the first human Spectre was such a big deal in ME1 I couldn't pass it up.

I also wondered if my discount on Citadel would be bigger if I were a Spectre. (I love hearing "I'm Commander Shepherd, and THIS is my favorite store on the Citadel!" in EVERY SHOP I go into. Wonder if that'll have consequences in ME3, lol.)

I feel like my job, as Shepard, is to protect the galaxy from itself. People will act like people, and nothing is going to change that. I was not surprised that the Alliance and the Council acted the way they did. But it doesn't matter, because it's my job to save their butts anyways.

As a paragon "hero" I am not tired of or hating the Council or the Alliance... at least not the Alliance. I was angry with the Council because of their disacknowledgement of the Reaper threat, but the Council and the Alliance are in my eyes the good guys.

Playing through ME2 I have not grown accustomed to the Illusive Man. I really hate him and have always done things my way, telling each and everybody that they were serving me, not Cerberus. For all I care I would steal their precious SR2, find the nearest mass relay and set a course for Earth and the Systems Alliance.

Unfortunately, this is not possible in the game... so I just have to milk Cerberus for money while I go save the galaxy.

So you work for the council, do everthing they say, get the normandy grounded by them and then saving their asses from a bigass reaper attack. In ME2, you die and then get denied help by the council AGAIN.
Shepard: the reapers are coming!
Counciler: Ah yes the reapers, bunch of bull****.
Shepard: Did you not just see a big *** reaper invading the citadel 2 years ago?!!??!

Nope. I realize it's just biowares way of saying "hey this games all about working with cerberus deal with it."

I'm still loyal to the Council and still a  paragon Spectre, with or without Council support.

I still stick with the Alliance/Citadel before i take the side of Cerberus.

thanks for bringing me back from the dead, but do not expect me to do your bidding.
Cerberus doesn't know when the price is too high. That humanity will cease to be what it is, if we all acted like Cerberus, Humanity may be on top of the galaxy, but it'd be more like a monster than it would be anything resembling mankind.

Indeed, that is also how I feel. I'm going to protect everyone, even from their own stupidity. I wont' support Cerberus just because I'm mad at the Council.

I honestly didn't feel disillusioned by the Council/Alliance. They reinstated my Specter status, despite my ties to an organization that conducted horrifying operations in ME1. That's a vote of confidence in me as much as it was a move for political expediency. They didn't have to reinstate me at all.

Additionally, I felt like TIM showed his true colors at the end with his rant about "human dominance". I'm not interested in securing human dominance, I'm interested in galactic survival.
