 Someone please Pin this.

Just to be up front, this is a work around to get the game working. This removes all movies being played while playing Mass Effect 2. You will not be able to complete the last mission and you will have trouble reaching the citadel. You will loose all cinematics and load screen movies resulting in the loss of plot elements using this fix.

Retail Box (Non download versions of the game)

Find MassEffect2.exe in the Binaries folder in the Mass effect 2 folder. Create a shortcut of MassEffect2.exe

Right Click on it, select properties and add "nomoviestartup" at the end of the target line. It should look like the below picture. The only thing you need to do is add "nomoviestartup" at the end of whatever is in the target line.

It should look like this.

Steam Users

Right click on Mass Effect 2 in the games list.

Select properties.

Click "Set Launch Options"

Type in "-nomoviestartup" (or copy paste without the parentheses)

Click ok and close properties box.

It should look like this.

Remember, you will loose all cinematics and load screen movies resulting in the loss of plot elements using this fix.

No files are altered or removed, the tag simply tells the game not to load any cinematics. In other words, it's fully reversible. Just remove the tag again to get the movies back.

@Avarix Greenleaf

Mention on the first part with red that you won't be able to proceed to the last mission and you will have issues in reaching the Citadel.

I dont know if even that are related.
Anyhow chance are high. So, make a backup of your "\\Mass Effect 2\\Binaries" directory and overlap those file.

Binaries Helper

Leave a comment in both's case.

This certainly helped me. Game running like a dream. Although it's a dream lacking in cinematics.

The game wont start with the helper.
Here is the result for the bink performance test, it ran perfectly unlike ingame :

Is this a single core processor? by the way, as you notice even no frame got skipped your total playback time is 3 sec over the video lenght value ( 31 ). Can you please post a screen of yuor task manager with the CPU Usage history, something like that;

Image IPB

About the helper, any error pop on? Retail or Digital?

And last thing ( that wont solve the issue ) , can you backup your  "BWLogo.bik" and  "EAsig_720p_v2_raw.bik"  located @ "\\Mass Effect 2\\BioGame\\Movies" for replace em with the one inside the archive provided below and see if you still stutter? :P

Opening

I was running many apps, maybe thats why the video is 3 seconds longer and yes I have a single core processor.
Here is the result when I closed everything :

The game runs well and even better than ME1 if I try the temp fix and during the videos the sound is perfect.
Trying your opening fix
EDIT: It didnt work it's still the same.
It does exactly this
and this in gameplay.
Note: taken from this thread : http://social.biowar.../index/804826/1

EDIT 2 : Just tried the nomoviestartup thing 3 hours ago and god... It runs perfectly, bink videos are not working but whatever I dont think I missed a lot on the story side.

Thanks for posting this fix! It worked like a charm for me.

I have one question though: What do you mean when you say we will "have trouble reaching the Citadel"? I tried going to the Citadel and just ended up with a blank screen. Is there some way to get the Citadel to work, or are we just locked out until a patch comes out?

I dont know then. ".bik" file are basically handled as streamed texture in Unreal, so dunno.

To get pass the citadel Black screen, you can use the .bik remplacement files...

Just go to your Mass Effect 2 files ".../Mass Effect 2/BioGame/...)

Rename the "Movie" Folder (to Backup the orginal movie)...

Than use greened .bik for all movie...

I simply took the other Fix that someone had made for the loading and copied/renamed for all the .bik in the movie folder.

Here is a link to all the files, if you dont want to copy/paste/rename all of them one at the time :P

Oh thats more easy as u think. Your autosaves after reaching the Massportal in the Citadel sektor. If you load that savegame after u startet WITHOUT -nomioviestartup, u can play NORMAL WITHOUT STUTTERING. (You have to see the video before u were forced to press a button on startup, after video load, just hit ESC, thats enough) I dont know if that happens always but for me it was very astonishing. (You would not expect the game work correctly, and then it does this unexpected and u got pressed against your Rooms Wall because of the high pressure of your own wondering, that things made by Bioware, actually CAN work.)

Unbelievable: After i load a Savegame i made in Citadel, i still can play without Stuttering! And that without "-nomoivestartup" or killed .BIK files!!!

I'll try that in another Sektor with another planet soon.

Please report if that works also on your Computer! (I have singlecore)

Update: Back on the normandy - still no lags or stuttering.
This can be a fix! :)

Update: After i jumped to Local cluster, the stuttering is back. So i decided to restart and load the autosave, made after Massportaljump to local Cluster. Now its stutterin-free again.
Seems that i have to do this all the time i jump through an Massportal.
Now i'll try to land on a Planet (if there is a landable Planet in Local CLuster) and look if that Problem comes back. When not, this IS A FIX!

has anyone figured out a way to get into the Citadel??
I tried replacing all the video .bik files with dummy versions but I still get stuck at the loading into team selection (hear the Citadel noise in the background, but just a blank screen).
