EA kills RPG's. They only care about money. The money is in sports games and shooters. I am shocked they made Dragon Age, which IMO was one of the best RPG's to come out in a long time. Its too bad the direction of the DAO plot is being screwed up by soon to be released DLC.

I like DLC. I think it helps game co's make money to fund new releases and gives the player an option to continue playing a game they bought. I think DLC is a good thing if the game co's don't hose it up like they are doing with DAO. DLC should continue a games plot with those characters, adding one or two new party members to the team. The last DLC should wrap up stuff and end the plot. Everything I have read says the new DAO:A releasing in march will not be using 90% of the DAO characters. Why? You guessed it MONEY. Thats what they said. Now what, did the voice actors decide they wanted a raise? Come on it should cost MORE to add new characters not LESS.

The people that are bashing on ME2 (I have my issues too) are pissed because they removed all RPG aspects from the game to sell more copies. If you like shooters like GOW, then you should like ME2. Those of us who have hit 30 and still have more then a few brain cells left want more from our games.

Don't worry, all the haters here will get no where. EA/Bioware could care less what we think, its all about the dollar. Look at the Ultima series. As soon as EA took it over it died. Its the meat heads at EA that like sports and cant understand what an RPG is that kill good games.

Bolded part is just so wrong, i can't even describe how much (by the way, i'm 29 and last i checked, i was'nt brain dead)!!!

Reunions devoid of emotion? What game were you playing? So far those are some of the better moments in the game for me. Mind you, that emotion fades quickly once you've gone through most of the dialogue trees there, but at all the initial reunions I thought the reactions and emotions were spot on given the circumstances under which each reunion happens. There was only one reunion that I thought lacked some of the emotional tone I was anticipating and that has more to do with the directing for that character's voice actor than it does with anything else.

On topic: I'm definitely in the love category for ME2 but I have my criticisms. For the most part I like all the changes and additions they made but I think they took out a little too much in the process. Squad armor, the Mako (the problem with the Mako for me was always more some of the planets than it was the Mako itself, you know, the excessively tall mountainous ones), and the range of abilities available to each class were things that got axed that I honestly think shouldn't have been. The hammerhead dlc will probably fix one of those for me but the other two I will just sigh and live with it while hoping they bring them back for ME3. For me, Soldier is the only class that didn't lose anything going to ME2 from ME1 and that is something that saddens me greatly even though they gave us a couple of new abilities that I really like. The only new thing I don't like at all is planet scanning. I love the upgrade system but the primary method for attaining resources is horrendous. It takes about 10 minutes to thoroughly scan even the smallest planets WITH the upgrade. Also, there's usually 3 or 4 more really good deposits left on each planet even after it's status says it's depleted. I was furious when I found that out because I left a good 7 planets partially unscanned because it told me they were depleted. I hope in ME3 they tone it back so instead of scanning the whole planet you only have to scan certain sections of it to attain all it's resources.

Oh, one more thing I really miss, the feeling of an open world. The galaxy itself feels a whole lot bigger in ME2 (and I love that) but all the places in the galaxy feel a lot smaller than they did in ME1. I understand why because of the new mission structure system they're using but I think they should have given us at least two or three wide open areas that didn't feel overly linear.

Uusually the only change for the consoles is the control scheme not content. Consoles are a boogeyman that lets people feel superior but in reality the worst offenders of bland boring games (Sims, WoW) are PC games.

I really wish that some people on these forums would get their head out of their backside and realize that liking a certain genre of games does not determine their intelligence.

I truely think that this game should have been sold under a different name. They should have said only the names of the characters will be the same, nothing else in the game, the play, the type of game, nothing else will be the same.

For me it is irritating that you have to look around for ammo clips and the things like that, which are a long step backward. So far I have not been able to make myself finish even the tut.

I think if the game had been billed as a totally different game that- first I wouldn't have bought it until I had seen some play from it that showed it worth playing. Or had tried it out. -second- I would not have expected the game play to be on the same lines as Mass Effect.

In general this game feels like one of the very old Doom games. And to tell the truth I really didn't like those. I've tired several times to play through the tut. Frustration sets in when you try to open the first safe as doing what the instructions say to do does not in any many or method work. Then the constantly having to look for the ammo clips on the floor, that is just dumb. I don't know of any fight that leaves a bunch of ammo clips on the floor. Now understand, this is just the tut! Next you are suppose to command this guy to fire his powers at some bad guys..... oooookay. For ten minutes you command and fight, command and fight, command and fight, command and fight. Nothing ends, it is like you get no where. At that point I usually say to heck with this and quit. Like I said I have had to make myself try the tut as it is not appealing or drawing me into play at all. I know many people will like this game. I hope at some point to get to like it a little, or at least enough to make the purchase worth while.

I do now understand WHY the game is not the same, evidently the new company does not have neat builders of the first Mass Effect.

You have to understand that with any game that fans even care about a tiny bit. Their is always going to be some emotional attachment to it. Like in Dragon Age, some people were upset about a delayed DLC patch. If you anazlye why they were upset

Because simply with anything you really enjoy, anger or joy that you become attached to in a postive way you can get emotional with. You should see the hate on Warcraft where I ended up leaving for Bioware, they were flooded with complaint's and threat's about not buying the game

It's something you have to take with success, while I think the real problem here is EA not Bioware. From most of the information I read it's about EA, late shipping, poor customer service etc. Bioware didn't sell out to them...selling out is almost like Marvel selling out to Disney for some money

They have stayed true to the things that made them a big hit. Perhaps they sided with EA for a larger budget to fund products or to promote things. I doubt they just want to be paid more, people who create these kinds of video games are always concerned with how good the game is...not how big their wallet is

Happens with every game. It could very well happen if the game was good, same chance if it was bad.

The problem is that ME1 wasn't like this, and some people were very fond of how things played out in the prequel. That above all else is what's fueling the discontent. Not saying it's unwarranted discontent, mind you, and nor am I saying that I agree with that discontent.

And im really sick of reading that they've "taken away the RPG". When really a RPG is just a role playing game, which this game dose better than 99% of RPGs out there. There may be elements that have changed that you don't like, but its no different than JRPG enthusiast.( not that I hate JRPGS at all)

What they have done is made some changes to alot of systems that ALOT of people ****ed about.

- Getting rid of the inventory is one of the best things they could of done, in ME1 loot was horribly boring, you had sooo much useless loot that you would just sell anyway, and the entire system that you customized your weapons by while somewhat interesting is no where near as cool as having different types of the same weapon instead of a marginal upgrade. Not to mention that you had to keep looting stuff that was much worse than your current equipment, instead in ME2 anything you pick up is either money, upgrades, or new weapons all of which are important and NEW. It was a smart way to streamline the system and make it more console friendly and at the same time less annoying.

- Now im not going to say that the customization of the weapons is something I wouldn't want in the game the current system is BETTER than what we hadin ME1, s ure they could of done something with weapons ontop of removing the inventory, but what we got is still better and more than likely now that they've made these changes when time comes to design things for ME3 they can look at this new and improved looting system, and add more loot ( all of which would still be NEW) . I think in ME3 you will loot upgrades and addons to your guns, more than likely in a global sense ( silencer that works with any gun thats attached etc.) This way you get the best of both worlds.
- I see some people complain about the new scanning mini game, which still while maybe a bit annoying (specially if you dont do the tap scan button trick) is still better and more interesting than walking down on a barren planet and looting a rock. You get to go down if theirs something interesting, if not you get a different system, good idea and it will be improved upon but its current system is better than what we hadin ME1( imo at least)

-I dont think anyone would want to argue that your armor customization isn't better in this game, the second I saw that I could customize alot about how my armor looked, and that each armor piece could be mixed and some had some decent stat boost, I could care less about not having slots, I much rather look how I want and not have to bother with constantly getting marginal upgrades. And I happen to like the partys unique gear, even if theirs not alot.

Not to mention the good things they did with the ship, moreso than ever the ship actually feels like its MINE, infact that's one of the best things about the game I feel more attached to my team, my ship and the story than I did in the first one and thats what makes a good role playing game, not how many sockets you can put in your damn weapon.

- I also see some discussion of the character acting differently, I think it adds to the personality of the game every single character that has changed for me has made them more interesting. Besides a certain amount of time has passed and this Mass effect was suposed to show the darker side of the galaxy, its been hard times for everyone and things have changed, but besides that I just wanted to say that almost everyone that all of the new people and most of the old characters i've met have been amazing and so well done. But this is something that everyone is going to have there own outlook on, I think most people enjoy this part of the game though so its kinda a mute point.

I mean its not a perfect game, but its still most definitely a bioware game, I really can't believe people are trying to claim "the real bioware fans" arent happy with this, perhaps there just fanboys of ONE game and not the company. There still delivering the best Western RPGs, dragon age was good and so is this game. Bioware is bioware, EA purchased them for a reason, they wont mess up what already works.

This isn't directed at anyone in this thread in particular, or anyone in this forum even I just needed somewhere to post my thoughts alot of the comments im reading here, and sadly the more I read the more I think that these "community" forums owned by the company are a bad idea, private forums are moderated much better and it cuts down on the senseless flaming. I'm sure some people will completely disagree with what I've said and thats fine no game is for everyone, I hated assassins creed 2, but I still admit its a good game and will phrase it where phrase is due.

Im very curious as well, for those of you who really dislike mass effect 2 strongly, what about mass effect 1 captured you that failed too in this one? Changes have been made yes but to go as far from love to hate baffles me a bit.

Though im sure this ramble will be lost in the fast moving "official" forums, I just wanted to say I've tried to make this post in a very unagressive manner and if someone dose want to reply to it, do so with the same respect please.

Lets hope Bioware, when making ME3 takes elements from ME2 and adds onto them to make everyone happy while keep this new streamlined, wonderfully written game intact.!

I like the game, but not as much as I did ME1. There seems to be improvements that everyone agrees on and some that some people, including me, see as bad. For me for some reason, I just don't feel as compelled to play this game as much as I did the first one. I don't think the game is terrible, bad, etc. at all, it's pretty good. For some of us though, something seems to be missing. I would actually like to see a sticky that compared ME1 to ME2 with a rational discussion as to what people thought was improved and what took a backseat with anyone that posted inflammatory comments locked out.

All the people complaining are the ones who want every "RPG" to be like D&D. Pathetic really.

I like the fusion of RPG and Shooters. ME2 is the best of both worlds mixed together and its a really fun and amazing game! :D

I find it equally concerning that some legitimate criticism of the game is being branded as simple "hate". Granted, most of those whining about it don't actually know what they are talking about. But I have seen some who explain their position and offer a legitimate case. I love the game, but there are elements lacking in the game that are key to a succesful RPG. At the end, it will depend on tastes. Once again, I loved the game, but it could have been better.

I pretty much agree with all of this.  Having said that, it would be nice to some kind of official thread where the two games could be compared in a non-inflammatory way.  I'm tired of reading the "hate" posts versus the "you're an idiot for not liking it" posts.

This is utter foolishness, and typical of the nonsense flooding this forum.

There is plenty of legitimate criticism here, clearly explained, with good examples.

Someone is not "pathetic" just because they hold an opinion that differs from your own.  Seriously, grow up people.

I have the game, and I absolutely love it, yes.  I'm almost ashamed to say how many hours I've already put into it (30 some odd across 3 days lol ) But i know Bioware is receptive to it's fans suggestions, and I for one like all the improvements that were made over mass effect 1.    I'm just hoping all the nay sayers don't influence future design descions.

Here's hoping Bioware does'nt back pedal for Mass Effect 3.

Dude, dont even worry about it. any type of media (whether its a game, movie, book, etc.) is going to have some people who dont like it. But enough people LOVE this game (masterpiece!) that the developers will realize, if they dont know already, that they made a great game a million times better

I think you underestimate the staff over at BioWare. It's not like they're sitting in their $1000 chairs crying to themselves in disappointment. ME2 is a fantastic game, despite obvious player concerns. They will take the good with the bad and craft it into something useful. You'll see.

Okay, I know that this may sound hostile but I do not mean it that way, I hope you are a happy person with a good life and you enjoy your purchase. That being said, it really sounds like you don't understand how to utilize the abilities and do not understand the hacking system. They both are easily executable and work consistently. I would just encourage you to give the manual a read-through or, at least, complete the tutorial. Really, it sounds like you're just not "playing right."

I wouldn't want a fellow ME fan to miss out on what is, for the most part, an excellent game and a continuation to a compelling story.

I also think that many of you are confusing hatred of the game with anger at the fact that it isn't the way they want it. Most people love this game, but with love comes the potential for strong negative emotions. It's like parents who love their children but get absolutely pissed when their children disobey them or act in a way they don't approve of.
