I also think that many of you are confusing hatred of the game with anger at the fact that it isn't the way they want it. Most people love this game, but with love comes the potential for strong negative emotions. It's like parents who love their children but get absolutely pissed when their children disobey them or act in a way they don't approve of.

For myself and many others Mass Effect 1 created a unique "feel" that no other gaming experience has come close to.

I was really looking forward to revisiting that experience.

Many of us are disappointed because that "feel" is completely absent in ME 2.  Honestly, I've never tried to like something so much in my life.

I don't understand the childish attacks and labeling critics as "haters" and "trolls."

I agree, ME2 does have a very different feel and look then ME. I think this is more to do with the dark themes, mood, environments and story line then anything else. Personally I love it!

It's still the ME universe, only this time we're experiencing it in the Terminus Systems and the Attican Traverse.

I like to think of it as a dark installment in a larger story arc (trilogy). :)

Many PC gamers hate change. They're threatened because they feel like making the game better is how game companies cater towards the console crowd and forget about them. Infinity Ward, Lionhead, Bethesda, now Bioware. They've all taken flak from these PC fanatics.

you know the irony was the the fist me2 was orignially an xbox 360 exclusive they then ported it to the pc

how the hell are they dumbing a pc port down, when it isnt ?

uh **** this I love me2 and I am going to play it know on my *gasp* xbox 360

p,s my hostility was not at you sym ;)

Wow. This is so bad I can't let it go. Let us look at your post: First, you use the phrase "fi®st" me2. I hate to break it to you, but this release of Mass Effect 2 is the first one of the title.

Second, if you are referring to Mass Effect, it was indeed a port to the PC. This, however, was done by a Demiurge, not by Bioware. They did an amazing job on ironing out the interface differences and in the end found the correct balance between the original needs of the game and the platform it was ported to.

To address your last, articulate utterance, some of the disappointment by PC users is the fact that Bioware's in-house team did not do such a good job as Demiurge. The controls are awkward, the interface does not take advantage of the PC's capabilities, and the most video cards are showing many graphical inconsistencies that go unnoticed on television screens.

Your refusal to correctly understand why PC users might be upset is compounded by your seeming inability to use language or a keyboard. Typos are typos, but it looks like you slammed your head against the keyboard and then pressed enter.

This forum represents a small fraction of a fraction of a percentage of people who play Mass Effect 2, and even then not even half have too many complaints about the game.

Don't worry, we'll be fine.

Most of it is not hate, but disappointement. Let me describe a typical thread in this forum -

OP: I don't like X feature. I liked Y feature from ME1 better.

RESPONDANT 1: That's because you suck at video games and should feel about yourself. I love X feature, and anyone who doesn't has multiple sexually transmitted diseases.

OP: You are a fanboi and/or play a console

RESPONDANT 2: I play PC and agree with R1 and I hate you as well

OP: You don't understand what I am trying to say

RESPONDANT 3: Picture about how fraternally please this tale was or what the proximity of one's hand to one's face should be after reading this thread

OP: I hate you all, hate the game, hate EA.

I wouldn't really say "dissapointment", sure i had a few "dissapointments"(limited armor etc) but i am pretty sick of the constant whining and x number of threads how this game is a "major disspointment" just becuase of the changes.

Hm... it's a little too soon for me to say whether I love or hate the game but I'm content with the darker setting and plot as it is. Just not ready to say whether I love or hate it as I'm one of the gamers suffering through technical difficulties but I'm sure I'll love it once things turn up for the better. =] I envy anyone who can actually play it without any technical errors. <_<

Ya the game is pretty good except for the planet scanning. They changed a lot and with a change this drastic you are going to alienate some of your hardcore I played through the last game 15 times type of people. Similar to how you guys would wine if they did a 180 and made ME3 just like ME 1(Then you would be coming online crying about how you don't like the game and then some obnoxious person that acts just like you would start ripping on you). I mean hell you guys are just as bad as they are whining and throwing tantrums just because you can't deal with the fact that not everyone agrees with you.

You're talking out your ass.

I'm an RPG fan and I prefer console to computer and I'm not alone in that regard. If Bioware allowed for bigger signatures I could stick a few condensed versions of quotes of mine, but alas, I need to repeat myself once again-

Many FPS fans played Mass Effect since they watched the trailer they
saw guns and said "ooooh, exploshuns FTW". When they went through the
gameplay which was so easy for me to settle into for the fact it didn't
FEEL like an FPS, they complained and b****** until they got their way
at the RPG fan's expense. It's not enough they have countless games
catered to their tastes, they have to harm an RPG fan's experience.

They were complaining about the combat, but all RPG purists I've spoken
to didn't find anything wrong with it. As I've said, not being a
shooter kind of guy, I was able to ease into the fights very
comfortably. If the FPS fans could have just been content with the
story and the simplicity of combat, we wouldn't be discussing this on
Bioware's foums in the first place.

If you actually look at who's complaining you'll see it's more or less the same people on these forums.

The rest of the world loves the game. Just look at all it's scores and the comments on any gaming website. No matter what Bioware does there will always be doomsayers and naysayers.

I honestly don't know if FPS fans even play this game, i had one guy telling me ME2 is a crappy game despite not even looking at the reviews let alone did he even watch any of the trailers or videos.

Stupid hardcore FPS fans.

 OMG!

I am seriously so glad I found this forum.
I played Mass Effect and loved it. I played Dragon Age and thought it was pretty alright.
I thought BioWare was a company I could trust.

This game, Mass Effect 2, is Mass Effect in title only.

It has NOTHING that was great about Mass Effect, NOTHING.

Mass Effect 2 is utter crap.

Whatever.  Who cares about the hate?  If you enjoy it, good for you.

The last time I checked, ME 2 was getting glowing reviews and had a killer user and critical score on Metacritic.  I'm sure Bioware is sobbing into their pillows each night because some random sampling of forum geeks is frothing at the mouth of over a lack of inventory and the fact that they have to, now, put some effort into the combat.

Guys ME is AT BEST a Choose Your Own Adventure book. AT BEST.

I don't know where you guys are getting RPGs = choosing dialogue choices and multiple endings from. Jrpgs have had that for a while and I had to deal with constant b****ing about how they weren't "true" RPGs. "ZOMG! It's not an RPG nm the fact that you choose your compainions have 80 different endings based off said companions affection levels NOOOOOOO It's not an RPG!!!!!"

*sigh*

Then again *shrugs* I have no problem with non unlimited ammo as long as the game isn't ridiculously challenging unless I exploit cheap AI.

Oh
please don't start with that playing a certain genre of games
determines the gamers intelligence crap it gets old after a while.

Furthermore
I know it's hard for people like you to abandon their pre-conceived
notions, but try to remember this, it shouldn't be too hard seeing as
rpg players are the most intellegent gamers ever.  Just because someone
enjoys fps or tps does not mean that they want every game to conform to
the whole gruff space marine in one ton of armor who feels no emotions
and solves all of lifes problems by being bad ass and shooting.

When they went through the gameplay which was so easy for
me to settle into for the fact it didn't FEEL like an FPS, they complained
and b****** until they got their way at the RPG fan's expense. It's not enough

Please stop being so melodramatic, it really doesn't do you any good. And just for the record. Yes I realize it sounds so much more epic when you make it seem like the few faithful RPG purists are holding out against the filthy unwashed babarians that are FPS players whose sole goal it to defile all the RPG purists hold dear, but that is just not the case.

Honestly you seem to be quite misinformed about FPS players, maybe just maybe if you actually knew what you were talking about you could actually form an intellectual opinion about another genre. Now since that is obviously too much to ask for how about you just don't make ludacris assumtions and neither will I.

Now I could go around saying RPG players just want more dice rolls, stats and a redundant inventory but that would be ignorant and wrong and I do try to distance myself from that kind of thinking. You however, do not, instead you seem to like going around willy nilly spouting your uninformed and biased opinions even when no one is asking for it.

They were complaining about the combat, but all RPG purists I've spoken

Well of course if you have and audience that is traditionally RPG purists you are going to get that kind of response. That's like asking bungie's fanbase who are typically FPS players, if an FPS like Halo needs more stats. Any moderately intelligent person could tell the answer is going to be "there is nothing wrong with it"

Now judging from what you have wrote I'm not sure if you are legit or just trying to get a response, if it's the former then I feel sorry for you and if not well then I fell into you're cleverly woven trap, congradulations.

Should we be concerned with all the hate towards Mass Effect 2?

I have the game, and I absolutely love it, yes.  I'm almost ashamed to say how many hours I've already put into it (30 some odd across 3 days lol ) But i know Bioware is receptive to it's fans suggestions, and I for one like all the improvements that were made over mass effect 1.    I'm just hoping all the nay sayers don't influence future design descions.

Here's hoping Bioware does'nt back pedal for Mass Effect 3.

I dont understand the hate either.  granted, ive only played 10 hours so far, and so far im floored.  Walking in to club Afterlife for the first time was amazing.  It reminded me of a club ive been to in Tokyo.  So far the game reminds me of the movie Blade Runner.

Most people simply are negative by nature.  thats the culture we live in these days and to some extent i cant blame them, but as far as this game is concerned all this negativity is uncalled for.

The hate is justified. Although, that is such a strong word to use when all I've seen is criticism.

I'm enjoying the game, but there are many flaws, yet a fanboy like yourself would assume I hate the game.

The fanboys need to bring down their defence of the game. People asked for improvements in the systems from Mass Effect 1, not to remove them entirely.

I'm not your normal gamer. I dont play that many games. But I play Bioware games ever since I played KOTOR. This game is the worst experience of all of them. I was excited about this game more since Dragon Age seemed to get back to doing things well.

I have to agree with the sentiment that they've just made it an interesting FPS. great. thats not what I expect. I dont even mind searching for minerals. My character's skills are pretty useless FOR ME. I was a vanguard and wanted to keep everythign I could from ME1 the same. Since I'm not some Halo/COD/etc fanboi, I'm not a great go in and shoot and slam into people player. i liked using my skills, having my friends use their skills and using strategy.

now I'm basically managing the buddies and trying to keep myself from dying while they kill something.

The reason people are pissed off about the ammo is that its common. ME was UNIQUE because of its ammo system. now its just more of the same... great job!

Not being able to use armor because you can't see your face in a game that supposed to be all about interacting with people is another major fail. tell the excuses to the back of my helmet, or the front, does it matter?

It just comes down to this being a different style of game then the rest of bioware's console games and the difference from ME is too much.

I bought the game as a preorder CE. i guess ill try to finish it, otherwise thats a bit of a waste of cash. ill probably still preorder the dragon age add-on. but in the future? i dont know anymore bioware, i just don't know.
