Since as far as I know the entire squad can die, I think it might be tricky for Bioware to find a way to allow you to use some/most/all of them in Mass Effect  3 and still be fair to those who don't import a character (there may be some that can't die if Shephard survives, I don't know, but I do know most of the best characters could die).

However, I just want to say that I think, tricky as it may be, it would very much add to the Mass Effect experience as a whole if they could figure it out, especially considering the popularity of the characters. Even if for non-import saves something such as giving you a simple number, say 5, and asking you which 5 you were able to save, was done.

I very much think this would be rather crucial to many a fans experience as many of the new squaddies are definitely very interesting ones who you would want to keep close by you. Especially for the squaddies from ME1 who returned as squaddies in ME2, since it just seems right and even, I daresay, poetic that they have been with you from the beginning and they stay with you to the end
