I've played completely through ME1 and had some issues with the game as enjoyable as it was. I was really looking forward to ME2 after hearing that Bioware had addressed some concerns over the original.
Needless to say I like what I've seen so far and love ME2 far more than the first title.
However there are one or two things that stick out as a bit of a serious issue that kicks this titles greatness in the balls:
1) Loss of a strong RPG Element-
While I'll be first in line to complain about the inventory system and weapon redundancy of the first game, I feel that removal of stat attributes hurt the game and lack of weapon interaction really hurt the players ability to make their Shephard and crew feel like their own. No decision making on how to evolve is worse than no decision making on how to evolve the story.
I think the bioware team should return the stat related stuff, but also take a look at another RPG shooter for the PS2, Final Fantasy VII Dirge of Cerberus. I'm sure a few people will roll their eyes at the mere mention of that title, but it was a damn fun game to play. Allowing for customization of the weapons for various purposes and allowing the player to choose between making what ever they needed for the task at hand. Everything from upgradable barrels for better range to scopes (personally would like the wheel the mouse to effect sniper scope range just like DoC). This would add a questing element to the game to find these parts to build the best sniper rifle, shotgun, pistol, etc that the player would need. Maybe even allow shephard to craft some of the items themselves to allow for more stat building features. The Clips in ME2 just hurt the game and the lack of real involvement with the weapons makes me feel absent from control over my character. The possibilities are endless for fully customizable weapons. Including building weapons that impact biotics more or robots more etc.
As I said don't get me wrong I love ME2, but it feels more like Gears of War and Uncharted than it does a Third Person Shooter RPG.
2) The Galactic Map.... I don't know what they were thinking with this game, but moving the little ship across the map is nothing shy of annoying. This maybe a short coming of me not having all the controls at my disposal yet as it was quite a change from ME1 to ME2. However in ME 1 it was quick and easy to select a destination or figure out where you were relative to the rest of the galaxy. Not it's just annoying.
3) Last is more of a PC gaming complaint. I'd like the choice of X360 controller or KB+M. As much as I enjoy KB+M this game was clearly stream lined for a controller leaving me with situations where I desired to press A button on the controller to simply not wanting to wrestle my way in and out of a comfortable position when I need to get up.
I'd also would like options to allow me to take advantage of the 8 gigs of RAM I have in my system. Allowing for faster loading times by preloading adjacent areas and places like the normandy to memory if I have space available. I still like that games keep RAM requirements low, but lets consider those of us with the ram that can compensate for the short comings of a hard drive.
I love this game and I can't wait to go through it again, but I really would like the above things corrected. I'm really wondering if anyone else here feels the same way.
ME2 is awesome, but I have a few suggests for ME3
