Im in the UK so Im hyped for the ME2 release here. Naturally, I visit the official forums here to talk about it.

I havent really posted much but reading some topics here... Its pretty disappointing as the type of fanatical attitude makes Bioware Social look worse than Gamefaqs community.

Open discussion, with both positive and negative topics is the basis of a videogame forum. The problem is when criticism of the game is steamrolled by members of the cult of Bioware. People who are unable to comprehend others may have their own opinion...comments such as "QQ more" and "the complainers obviously dont know what they are talking about" are prolific here.

Im not sure if these forums are moderated but really I expected a better community on the official Bioware forum, something along the lines of the Escapist with a strict and rigid code of conduct where trolling each other is not acceptable.

Im sure there are quite a few cool members here and intelligent topics discussing gameplay but Im not seeing it on the Mass Effect board. I think I'll be going back to Gfaqs...

What about when support and love for the game is steamrolled by members of the Guild of Conscientious Objectors under the guise of "keeping it real"?

It's the nature of the internet, really. The loudest is the most right, the logic and reason of a tl;dr post is overshadowed by a half-dozen "cool story, bros", and left unchecked, everyone becomes either the most ravening troll or the most ardent fanboy. There is very little in between online. It doesn't mean one or the other is correct or justified in doing so.

They are moderated, and we try to keep things cool, but the rampant popularity of both Dragon Age and Mass Effect make it very difficult to read every post in every thread in every forum in the community. We rely on our community members to draw our attention to potential trouble, but even dealing with that can be a full-time job. We can't afford to do both police the forums and do our regular jobs at the same time, and devote all our attention to them both.

Now is aa quiet time, when most people are glued to their machines playing the game, rather than posting on the forums. :) We get a bit of a breather before the Spoilers forum becomes a quagmire of folks talking about the awesome and not-so-awesome of Mass Effect 2. The Dragon Age forums are largely self-policing right now.

Unfortunately, it's so, but that's because we've attracted so many new people who don't know how to react or behave when there are actual developers talking to them. So we have to steer them in the right direction, and I'm glad we have so many forum veterans here who can help guide them. Some of them have been so helpful in the past that we've made them Moderators! Imagine that! :)

I hope that answers some of your concerns.

Send one of the Moderators a quick message when you see potential trouble. I try to check the forums at least once a day when I'm at work, and sometimes at night when I'm at home.
