Haven't beaten the whole game, but apparently there are no children in the future and/or outerspace. Except for monster children....which the player destroys mercilessly.
But ya, no kids.

Also don't forget that this is a very masochistic Universe as well. Over half the species won't let their women leave the kitchen apparently. That Krogan woman you find dead on Tuchanka...the place you find her body looks like a kitchen >.>
Edit: Freudian slip >.<... Misogynistic*

In the afterlife, if you stay long enough, one of the patrons yells out "anyone seen my child"

In space...no one can hear them whine.
They're probably all in daycare...in the ducts...playing with Mr. Slice and Dice.

I think the children are implied, especially on colonies ... but it would be real darn upsetting seeing a kid turned into goo, or finding a child's body or even a pint-sized husk don't you think?
As for women elsewhere, I killed a bunch of women guards and gang members. Before I started paying attention to the bodies I kept wondering why there was a woman grunting when I wasn't taking any damage... guess it was the baddies.

There's some plot justification for that. Krogan women aren't "kept in the kitchen"--they're heavily protected because of the genophage. It's similar with the Salarians, only 10% of the population are female. However, in Salarian culture the women are the leaders--you basically don't see any Salarian women because they're busy running the home planet. I don't remember why you don't see any Turian women, though.
And you definitely see a LOT of women in the game. Half of your crew members are female, and as someone noted a lot of the enemies are female, and don't forget important NPCs like Aria.
