Hey there, so i've had this problem a few times throughout the game,
had to reload saves elsewhere, but basically my character will walk
into something then float up, and i'll be on this invisible plain 2-3
ft higher than the object i walked into, and sometimes i'll be able to
find a break or ''exit'', but most of the time i can't.

Anyone encountered this?

Yes, have had this happen several times. The game seems to have a problem getting you stuck in the geometry when you're in cover mode against something and try to peer around a corner. I've started saving very frequently because of this.

It's not related to actively taking cover, but it is related to corners. Something about some corners (crates, walls, almost anything) is making the characters (sometimes even squad members, but most frustrating when its Shepard) float up onto another plane. This is highly annoying and is forcing reloading at the most inconvenient time. However, I hear not everyone is suffering from this. I have four other friends that all are playing, one has beaten it, and only one other has seen this issue.

Got the same problem, until now always during combat or at least with a weapon in hand, but never in peaceful places like the Citadel.
Mostly it happened when I walked into a ledge/step/whatever that went downwards, on the prison ship even when I tried to walk down some kind of ramp near the end of the mission (however, I'm not sure if that was actually a "walkable" ramp, the intended way seemed to go around it). One time it also happend with a picknick table (the one with the datapad on it right after the beginning of the mission on Horizon).
So far, I've never been able to leave this invisible plane. Also, I can't see any connection to taking cover, because most of the time there was nothing there to duck behind and taking cover in general works fine. I haven't tried to reproduce it yet, but at one point (during the mission Aria gave me, where I was saving those 20 containers from 3 big angry robots) I accidentally did it multiple times with a big step downwards (could also have been a rock going upwards, I don't remember exactly).

I'm talking about the ME2 CE, German version, English install, running on a Win7 HE x64 with a Phenom 2 810 or something like that and a Geforce 9800. All system requirements are met. The game has all available DLC installed except for the preorder-bonus.

EDIT: I just noticed that Grunt had died during a battle, fallen into a crate and afterwards stood back up within that crate. Then he walked out of the crate and on the way he also went upwards. Maybe the issue's the result of a clipping error.

The first time I was able to step down from my floating, but I'm stuck now for good. Quick save/ quick load didn't help.

I've played for about 10 hrs & I've encountered this problem twice so far.

1. Walking down a ramp (sorry I don't remember mission name) & at the bottom corner I floated pretty far up in the air. Miranda did too. I couldn't find a way down.

2. Bumped the corner of a tall object & bam, I'm floating. Couldn' move much & had to load a save again.

Both times I had my gun out running along.

Interestingly the last time I went afloat, my henchmen followed me to that higher plane.

I'v played about 7 hours so far, had this happen about 10+ times. I'm playing as Biotic, it nearly always occurs when im leaving cover, character floats up into invisible plane and i am unable to continue, forcing me to revert to a previous save.

It's incredibly frustrating and at times it has just made me stop playing from frustration, really ruining my experience if I'm honest. I'm really hoping this gets addressed in a patch.

I've also had this problem on 3 occasions now, it's very annoying. Can we do anything other then reload bioware?

Something new: Just played the Krogan recruit-mission and had Jakob and Garrus with me. Half of the time (no exaggeration here) when Jakob was in cover behind any half-high object, he was in fact sitting in the air next to it, exactly on the same level as the covers top side. He then mostly walked away, onto the object, but without getting stuck anywhere. Garrus and I didn't have that problem.

It's strange that I didn't notice that the first time I played that mission. The only two things I've changed are the difficulty (first time through was normal, now its two notches up) and my party setup. As far as I remember, I had Miranda and Jakob with me the first time.

***Bump***

This has happened to me as well.  Probably about 6 times total and I am only about 1/4 of the way through the game if that.

Very annoying and causes me to quit and play something else out of frustration.

I am on the PC version btw and from what I remember it happened twice when recruiting Archangel, once when doing the Krogan mission and once when first encountering the collectors.  The other times I don't recall.

But unlike the others posted it has just been from walking around.  Stupid to leave such a bug in game.  Bioware please fix!!!!!

It happens to me lots of time. I just have load from the last save. Looks like its a clipping issue that needs to be fixed.

Ive gotten stuck a bunch too, it seeems to happen to me more the higher the difficulty im on. My first playthrough on veteran (i think) had no issues at all, happened a few times on hardcore and now on insanity its happening a lot. Gotten stuck at Mordins clinic, in the infected mech factory, ive fallen through floors in Clan Weyrlocks base and many other places, it gets annoying especially on insanity where its hard enough without having to deal with bugs.

Ive also been having issues with shepard facing one way no matter where im looking. Appearently shepard can moon walk.

*bump*

Seems to happen regardless of character type, current situation in game, and nearly unlimited in possible locations (but agree it may be related to corners). Is it a problem with BW's implementation of Unreal engine?

I have played through and beat the game but now in my third play through my character gets stuck floating in air in the clinic Mordin runs as you come in. There is no way to meet Mordin and it happens every time . Does anyone have an idea. Help Bioware!

I've had this problem too. Even have a savegame of my Shep standing on top of a railing.

It often seems related to cover, but I've actually gotten stuck on a higher plane simply by walking around an area with curved walls, like a section in Purgatory.

yep, me too. Shepard walks on crates, tables, etc. and can't get back down to the floor. I believe it's a collision problem with the 3D game engine.

ive had this problem also. there are 18 threads besides this one about it. this one jusy had more rplies so i posted here. hope BW puts up a patch sometime soon and consolidates these posts into one. 2nd largest post on same issues has 19 replies.Doesn't seem like much but i bet most don't bother to post. since autosave usually saves a xomplete start over. im just worried that when im running insane for the achievement it will happen in a quest thats tough any way and ill smashface my keyboard into Oblivion

I've also had this problem, as I reported in one of the previous threads. I can confirm that it is not related to taking cover because I've been able to reproduce it consistently just by walking around. It's also happened to me while my weapon is holstered and I've seen other people complain about it happening on the Normandy, so I think it's a general problem with movement rather than something which is specific to combat.
