Is there any way to just backup the save files?

Well, my PS3/HDD died while loading/autosaving when you meet Niall.  I'm trying to get another HDD to replace it, but is there any way to recover my save files?  Whenever I try to copy to my ps3 or to a jump drive it gives me the "this content cannot be copied" bs and I don't have a spare portable 80 gb hard drive for a full backup.  
 
Also, is there going to be a patch for Niall or something?  Because I don't want to even go near the circle of magi until I know DA:O isn't going to trash my hard drive again.
