Who else feels a bit sad playing Mass Effect 2? *extremely slight possible spoilers*

I also miss Shepard being in the Alliance. No matter what way you spin it, I don't feel comfortable working with Cerberus. I don't know why Shep can't just go to the Citadel and convince Anderson to re-instate him and the new Normandy into the Alliance. Being a Spectre also feels different. Outside of Citadel-space, Spectres have no authority. Since the majority of the game takes place in the Terminus Systems, Shep has about as much authority as anyone else with a gun.
Not to mention that the romancable characters from ME1, who I was also fond of (Liara in particular) basically tell Shepard to screw off. I mean, why? After everything we were through, now you want nothing to do with me? I don't get it.
I love Mass Effect 2. Its a great game and just as good as the first, and I'm going to be enjoying it for years to come. However, I hope Mass Effect 3 brings back the "feel" of the first game. I'm having a hard time describing it, but the atmosphere first game just felt right. I hope I'm not the only person who feels this way.

The ME1 LI's felt, by and large, like they were written to get players to "move on" to the new crew. It felt kind of artificial and forced, because it's like...hello, I was dead for two years. They don't accept calls from heaven, sorry. And then they're all "Cerberus is evil, I don't know you," and I'm like...yeah...they brought me back and I don't like them but we have bigger issues to deal with right now. So when, in my case, Ashley gave me the proverbial finger I just rolled my eyes. Sad, yes, but by then I was rather fond of the new Normandy crew/squad so it softened the blow.
The citadel/council/Anderson thing was also a downer, but at least Anderson was supportive. No clue what good reinstating Spectre status did, but maybe it'll play a larger role in ME3.

And yes Rodrigo, Mass Effect 2 is really good. I love the game, and I am already planning on beating it at least another 3 times, not counting the "final" game saves I will do before ME3 comes out. I just liked the atmosphere and emotional "feel" of the first game better. But since ME2 improves in every other way, its not a game breaker for me.

Only thing to make it better would be to allow online play so a friend can join in on a mission by playing one of the characters already collected.

I loved Mass Effect 1 so much, and I connected with the characters and the Normandy on such a deep level. When I play ME2, I start to feel kind of sad. It feels like someone died, because aside from the two returning team members, everyone else is new. I grew fond of all the other companions, and now not having them there makes the Normandy feel lonely.
I also miss Shepard being in the Alliance. No matter what way you spin it, I don't feel comfortable working with Cerberus. I think this was the whole point. Your ship got destroyed, the Alliance/Council disowned you, the Reaper threat you exposed has been played off as a hoax, and your reputation has been slandered galaxy wide. I think working for Cerberus was intentional in that it's meant to play off your emotions, your morals. How many of us would feel comfortable working for a terrorist organization or the KKK? It's like that with Cerberus. The lack of familiar faces helps to make you feel like two years has really passed. You can't expect everyone to have waited around for you to come back. Aside from Liara, no one really knew you were alive. Even having Tali and Garrus join your squad was something of a coincidence. You didn't know Archangel was Garrus, and Tali was a chance meeting on your first mission to the empty colony.
I personally did not like the romance options for ME1, but I keep hearing they were kept out of this game because they would be coming back in a big role for ME3, which means picking up that relationship is a big possibility. Not to mention that you've been gone for two years, and they've done their best to move on (Though I think Liara is caught up in something with the Shadow Broker/TIM concerning you, which is why she can't join you.). That's just how it goes after so much time has passed. But, if you romanced the ME1 characters, and in particular, Ashley/Kaiden (Not sure about Kaiden, never played a femShep.), they will e-mail you after they blow you off on Horizon. They basically say or hint that they still love you, but they can't go where you're going on this mission, so you better not die on them again.
As for being a Spectre, they technically reinstated you, if you got the option due to decisions/dialogue you made. But it's more for show, than anything else. Purely a political show. Personally, that had me more angry at the Council/Alliance than anything else.
ME1 characters will play a much bigger part in the ME3 game, i'm sure. So I wouldn't be too worried.
This game seemed to revolve alot around the "Lesser of two evils" idea. Either tell Cerberus to ****** off and let the Reapers have their way, or work with them despite their reputation because th Reapers are a big threat. They're the only ones willing to fight the Reapers, so they're the only chance you have. You can tell TIM and Cerberus to go to hell at the endgame anyways.
I think the way they orchestrated this was brilliant. Really had me questioning Cerberus's motives, and my own character's moral code. Working for Cerberus wasn't easy for my Shepard either, but he saw it as a neccessary evil, because no one else would fight the Reapers.

The Fight for the lost commercials did nothing for this game, its alot deeper then the advertisements made it seem imo.
The choices and interactions you have have a much bigger impact and the feel like they matter more. Tough choices as opposed to ME1 where it was in essence be super savior jesus man or an ass. Rogue interaction much more improved.

I felt this rang true especially for Grunt. Hes a pretty deep character, and the commercials really didnt do him justice.
