I'm currently running a PC Version of Mass Effect 1 via Steam Client purchase on my PC. Specs are as follows:

Proc: 3.6ghz Pentium 4
Mem: 2 GB DDR2 RAM
OS: Windows 7 x32
Video: NVidia GeForce 7600 GT 512 MB
            Driver Version 196.21
            DirectX 10

The problem occurs ONLY on Virmire. During the first 5 minutes of the mission, the game will say *Loading* and crash with no error message. It doesn't crash the computer, the program just cuts out as if I had Alt+F4'd. Prior to that first loading point, it has problems when going into the menu, doing much the same thing. All other missions have been fine up until this point. The game itself has run beautifully despite my mediochre setup, albeit at low settings and such. I've updated to the latest version, despite that it was downloaded via Steam which, I'm led to believe, only provides the latest versions for download. Many have claimed that CD Cracks fix alot of issues dealing with other glitches on Virmire, but the game is technically already cracked, being a digital copy that I acquired through purchase via legal means. I've searched and searched and can't find anyone who's experiencing this issue. Any thoughts?

I understand that the fact that it is NOT a dual-core proc may point to some incapability to run the game. There's no way that's the cause of this particular issue, because A: The rest of the game runs just perfectly with no issue and little slowdown. B: I can run Mass Effect 2 and it runs BETTER than Mass Effect 1 on the same system.

I'd like to try and pick the brains of those more intelligent than myself to see if you can help me with any ideas. If a reinstall is necessary, can you please tell me how I can backup my save game so I don't have to do all of that over again? That would make me sad. Thanks in advance! (^_^)
