so in my ME1 playthrough I, well i guess u could call it flirted, w/kaidan BUT i never romanced him before we went to Ilos. Now in my ME2 playthrough i met up w/him right after the first incounter w/the collectors and he said that he loves/loved me, etc etc. did i some how romance him in ME1 even though i didn't hav sex with him? o.O

I heard that if you use a new Shepard that you are auto-assigned a LI. Females get Kaidan, males get Ashley. Judging from what you said you did not romance anyone in ME1? I wonder if it auto-assigned Kaidan to you then.

Did he say anything else? Did he give you the usual speech of hatred everyone is talking about? Ugh, I haven't done the Horizon mission yet, because I don't think I am stable enough to handle it yet lol. I heard that he hates you and sends you a break up email...its too much. Oh please let me know.

okie so after i completed another mission i got his letter. it basically said that he's sorry about what happened on horizon and that he still remembers the night him and fem shepard spent together before Ilos. Now i remember that on my 1st playthrough w/this shepard i romanced kaidan, BUT on my 2nd playthrough i didn't romance him (i turned him down right before Ilos). I wonder if maybe because i romanced him on my first run through w/my fem shepard that ME2 is using that? P:

I'm on my second playthrough now and since its not an imported character I wasn't assigned an ME1 LI. Kaidan still gets pissy on Horizon but none of the "I loved you etc" stuff and no evil email afterwards. That guy is lucky I stayed faithful on my first playthrough after that -.-  Hopefully that helps! 

On a funny note, I guess some npcs could tell my new Shep is single... Aria told me I needed to find a nice young man to warm up my bed

It isn't a break up email or evil email...it's an apology. The first thing written is Shepard, I'm sorry. And there is a lot more in the email written between the lines if people would just take the time to really read it and consider his character from ME.

Maybe I wasn't clear in the fact that I was being silly in calling it evil. There's no need to get defensive about it. I actually read it several times to get my Kaidan fix. My disappointment lies in the fact that's all we really got of him the game.

If he comes to you before Illos, even if you shoot him down it's considered to be a "love interest" in the second game.

See... Liara doesn't do none of that. Despite her darker edge, Liara has waaay more intrigue... especially with her past and the SB

Not going to check the link here at work, but I doubt it.  iirc, the Ashley letter mentions her father at one point, and also ends by quoting poetry.  That should probably be enough to determine either way.

And given that we're just dealing with a short bit of printed text, I'd be disappointed if Bioware didn't customize each letter for the sender.

What?  How is it a breakup?  He's saying it took him two years to even start to move on and as soon as he saw you it all came crashing to a halt.  He said he doesn't know because he doens't know how Shepard feels and he's clearly very unsure of himself, but the fact that he still loves you is very clear.

Ash's letter comes off way better than Kaidan's even though they roughly say the same thing. She never talked about dating anyone else, for example, and sounded like she was in a pretty bad place following your death. She also includes more poetry quotes, as fits her character.

For whatever reason, Kaidan always seems to come off badly in comparison.

The game defaulted to Ashley for my main playthrough even though I never went 'intimate' with her. (Always preferred Tali).

How can people think that's a breakup message, I have no idea..

Sorry if I sounded defensive...I think I'm getting as much heartbroken over the fact that so many people are abandoning their ME LI's because they aren't taking the time to look for answers. Kinda wonder if the comment that was made by one of the Dev's concerning the fact that he thought most people would cheat was due to the fact that they knew that the cameo's by the ME LI's were lacking. I think that no matter the argument on Horizon if there had been more options to interact with Kaidan/Ash(and even more with Liara)  throughout the game less people would have chosen ME2 LI's(even if those interaction had been disagreements over Shepard's involvement with Cerberus).

I think that's exactly what he's saying...he's got to have time to deal with it...even Tali wouldn't go with Shepard the first time she asked...she said she had to get a handle on the fact that Shep was back.

 I also think it's a hint to the player that getting back together with your LI from ME in ME3 will depend on whether or not you cheat. It's possible that your ME LI will not even recognize you as a LI in ME3 if you cheated much like Kaidan was no longer interested in you if you selected the wrong dialog choice when talking to Liara in ME.

I think Kaidans reaction is actually very understandable and just - I'd be more than pissed if I heard the love of my life was alive by rumor and they didn't even bother to alert me immediately -__-'
