It seems I also have the Grunt's loyalty bug...

I have completed, some time ago (so I do not remember all the context... sorry I can't be more specific), Grunt's loyalty quest (The Rite) successfully, was told that I had gained his loyalty and, wheen I look at the "Team status" screen, I see Grunt's marked as loyal (with the circle marker under his feet and the ability to switch between 2 different looks) and Grunt's "fortification" abilty is greyed out (but it could just be that I did not assign squad points there yet). I cannot recall anything abnormal when finishing the quest.

Though, a few minutes ago, as I went back to Omega in order to discuss with the Salarian, Ish, who asked to bring back "packages" from the Citadel and Illium, I selected Grunt as part of my team and noticed, on the detailed Grunt screen (where you normaly can assign squad points, right after selecting the team), that his loyalty status was only "normal" and his special "fortification" ability locked, with the reason "... is not loyal"...

Also, I have resolved the "package delivery" quest by convincing Ish (who is therefore no longer in the Omega public area) that attempting to meddle in Aria's business was likely not a very healthy activity, got a reward (40 xp + money), but the "assignment" remained open in my log... Another minor bug apparently (no real impact though, at the contrary of the loyalty thing)...

Hey, just wanted to throw my name in here, too, as another person with the Grunt loyalty bug. I earned his loyalty very early in the game and got the level summary screen to that effect. By the time I made it to the endgame, he didn't come up as loyal anymore, though I could still swap out his costume and he did survive the final battle. I wish I could be more specific, but I wasn't keeping track at the time. I didn't even notice that I'd lost his loyalty until it was time to divvy up fire-teams for the final battle.

I confirm that, for me at least, the Grunt's loyalty issue did not appear to impact the outcome of the final mission: everybody survived, including the "semi-loyal" Grunt. Though, I did not dare using Grunt for one of the key roles, he just participated as a secondary team member...

Also, the problem (even though it would be good to understand what could cause it) should not be too difficult to fix: a patch double-checking the main loyalty status (there must be at least 2 different variables holding that information as, depending on the place you look - the "team status" screen correctly shows Grunt as "loyal", while the "squad points distribution" screen says that "fortification" is blocked because Grunt "is not loyal" - the information is not consistent), or the "krogan loyalty" achievement, to reset the lock on the "fortification" ability should do the trick...

i gained everyone's loyalty right but when i was on my final suicide run my tech specialist kept dying even though they were loyal i tried it with tali and with legion but still bullet to the head...they souldn't die! wat's going on BW?

The vent guy will also die if you do not choose an actual leader for the fire team.  Since the fire team leader tells his soldiers to lay down cover fire when the tech opens the door, a bad leader means shot in the face.

Your choices are Garrus, Miranda and I am told Jacob as well can get the job done as fire team leader's.

I've had the same problem. By the time I got to Grunt's quest I had completed all of the loyalty quests save Mordin, Thane, Garrus, and Legion. When I completed Grunt's quest, the end mission said that Grunt's problems were resolved and I got the alternate costume and the ring under his feet (which I'm assuming means loyal) just no special ability. Haven't beaten the game yet, but I'm hoping this won't horrifically affect the rest of the game for me.

To the person that said you didnt have sound for Jacks Loyalty mission? I had the same problem with Grunts. Try moving the audio wires around that are hooked up to your tv. It might just be that. Thats what it was for mine.

And I also have the "no points earned" thing for both Grunt and Garrus. Try switching up your squad for one level up, i.e: not using the characters you always use, until you level up again. It should fix, worked for me.

Just so I'm sure, when you all say "Grunts special ability" you mean Fortification right?

Yes, absolutely, Grunt's special ability that does not unlock correctly is the "Fortification" one (something quite close was widely available - to soldiers at least - in ME1 and quite useful in "intensive" combat situations, like some simulations in the Zenith training station).

unless you paragon/renegade the dispute, in which case they agree to rip each other to shreds, but only after the mission's complete

Hey guys, I'd love to help. Please tell me exactly what levels you completed after getting the loyalty but before you lost the loyalty. I'll do my best to figure out what the problem is and how we can fix it, if we can fix it. If you can remember what it said in the level completion screen(the one with the illusive man) in regards to the characters loyalty that would help me as well.

With regard to the stuck in the wall thing, I've only encountered something like this once. On the area leading up to Fade, amoungst all the crates just before the two Large Mechs a Merc jumped up onto some crates for cover and when he crouched he went into the crates and got stuck. He was shooting at me but the bullets were blocked by the inside of the crate side and if I tried to shoot him I did no damage because of the outside of the crate. I eventually got him with a Reave, I'm glad he didn't have shields.

It happened instantly for me. Their Loyalty was always there, it was their Bonus Skill that never unlocked.

After you completed Grunt's loyalty mission did you speak to the Shaman. or did you leave right away?

What I'd like to know is who was in the party what the mission complete screen said and whether you spoke to the Shaman after completing Grunt loyalty. If you can tell me when the mission complete screen fired would be great too. we're doing our best to figure out why that happened and what we can do to fix it. Thanks for being patient.

I also have the Grunt loyalty bug (he's loyal but fortification didn't unlock). I definately talked to the Shaman afterwards (and I talked to Wrex too), and I had Mordin in the party with us.

edit: Oh, and the mission screen definately showed and implied that Grunt's loyalty was gained.

Wow....those are specific requests. I, like some others, did Grunt's loyalty quest, got the achievement and his alternate uniform became available; however, he does not have access to the fortification. I did return to a previous save and try again with a different squad member yet the same bad result. I completed the crucible and spoke to the shaman afterwards-  I remember the mission complete screen confirmed his loyalty. I wish I could remember when the end mission screen actually fired up, but I'd just be guessing whether it ended with the shaman or if I went back to the shuttle.

In my case, what happened was I killed the Thresher Maw, did away with Uvenk and returned to the Normandy with Grunt. I think a probable cause could be that because I'd recruited Grunt lastly before Horizon, I hadn't really gotten a chance to talk to him. So even after I did his loyalty quest, his dialogue scenes were the old ones, from before he knew what it means to be Krogan. The team select screen said Grunt was loyal and I could select his new outfit, but Fortification was locked all of that playthrough.

*edit* and I spoke to the shaman about Krogan traditions before returning to the Normandy, but I can't recall what the Mission Complete screen said, sorry :(

My "Grunt" was Loyal but the power never unlocked. Party members when talking to Shaman were Shep, Grunt, and Samara.

I will need to replay it, but I think that when talking to the Shaman, I never got the typical "Leave-Stay" dialogue options, and instead looped back into talking about the Shaman himself. Once I closed the dialogue, I got the "Press B to exit" prompt.

Edit: This is off memory, will try and do this again on a save I have, and see if I can pinpoint anything.

I just hit this glitch myself, with two characters on the Krogan homeworld.

First I had Grunt and Miranda, and I chose not to leave immeidately, but to talk with Shaman. It said I had unlocked fortification, but on the sqaud screen I can't add points to it and it says Grunt is not loyal. Then I did the Mordin quest, and also chose to hang around as opposed to leaving immediately. Then, when I did leave the  mission it unlocked Mordins ability, in the Illusive man debreifing screen, but didn't mention Grunts. Because I skipped the Illusive Man - Grunt Loyalty Mission debreifing screen - it seems to read it as not-unlocked.

In other words I did two loyalty missions without a return to the debreifing screen - which is what seems to have meant that Grunts was not unlocked as it only registered Mordins.

For me I did grunts loyalty quest and everything was fine until I did mordin's sidequest which was basically right after and i brought grunt along. On my second playthrough i did mordin's quest first, left the planet, did some other stuff, and then came back for grunts quest without mordin. So far fortification is still unlocked for grunt in my second playthrough.

Yea I had this issue as well with Jack on my 2nd playthrough. She's loyal but her special skill is still greyed out. Not a HUGE deal, considering I'll be playing again, but still irksome.

I completed the quest in which you make Samara loyal, killed her duaghter, unlocked her outfit, got the achievement, and yet when I look at my squad status before missions and at my terminal, it says she isn't loyal and I don't have her power. I don't want her to die in the final mission and I want her loyalty power. What am I supossed to do!!!!!????!!!!!

I was approximately level 20 when I killed the Thresher Maw and got Grunt to be labeled as loyal. I too can change to his darker costume (have it on right now), but I cannot put points in his power because it says that I don't have him as loyal in the power description. Also, I have been back to Tachaka with Grunt, and then went to other locations and used Grunt, but still power is not active.

side note: I did Grunt quests with Mordin in my party, then immediately started Mordin's quest after i talked to a couple people and got a couple side quests on Talchaka. When i officially started Mordin's quest i changed grunt out of my party. could this have done it?
