Alright, so I'm not at this part yet, but from what I've read you'll enter a Collector ship at one point and have a choice of three weapons. Now I'm a solider, but I love me some sniping, hence I'm torn between the awesome-sounding
Revenant or the sniper rifle that I'll be offered. Seeing as sniper ammo doesn't last long regardless, which would you all say is the more beneficial choice?
Thoughts? Thanks all.
Best weapon from the Collector ship?

I chose the Revenant and regretted it. Even with the +Accuracy upgrade the bullets spread all over the place like the old ME1 assault rifles. The sniper rifle is supposed to be great though from what I've heard.

the revenant is ludicrously innaccurate, so it's not really a good choice if you usually burst fire with ARs.

The Widow hits like a Mack Truck... Fired out of a Rail Gun... On Fire.
With Warp Ammo & Assassin Cloak it'll blast the head straight off the General from full Barrier.

I went with the Revenant. I usually am happy with it, due to the massive clips and ammo capacity. I usually use it or the battle rifle. It's great up close or on large targets due to the large clips and ammo capacity, as you can get a lotta lead out at the enemy. My only problem with it is the bullet spread at medium to long range. It's not that big of a deal if I fire in bursts, but it does get annoying every now and again. I'll usually switch to the upgraded sniper if I need to.

I chose the sniper rifle, but then I was playing as an Adept so I kind of needed the ranged power. Loved the rifle, but on my next run I think I'll choose the assault rifle just so I can try the Collector rifle out.

Yep. I definitely wished I had taken the SR instead of the Revenant. I only used it once or twice. It's especially bad for the Collector Ship mission.

Best description of that gun ever. So far, it's the only gun that seems like a good choice. I chose it even though I wasn't specialized in sniper rifles. That thing does unbelievable damage.
It should be in a class of it's own. It's not a sniper rifle. It's an anti-material rifle. It just so happens you can use it on people, too.
Oh, and it looks cool as hell.
The AR sucks. Reloaded my save to pick the Widow.

Ok, so sniper so far. Any chance it has more than 9 shots. I mean, I use the rifle every mission, but more shots would be awesome. Perhaps I'll save beforehand and try each, especially as I'll be undoubtedly getting the sniper on future characters.

Mine had 14. I don't remember if I was wearing the ammo pack sleeves or not.
Doesn't really matter when you're one-shotting everything and they're dropping thermal clips like candy.

My favorite sniper (between Mantis and Viper) was actually the Mantis. It just felt like it packed a helluva punch.

Wearing the ammo pack for me gave me 13 shots. One in the gun, 12 extra. The ammo restrictions for some of the guns in the game need to be fixed. Notably the pistol and sniper rifle.

Is that sniper rifle better than the Incisor rifle from DLC? I love that thing.
Even if it is, I suspect getting the Revenant for my soldier will just prove too tempting

The Revenant sucks in my opinion. Way too inaccurate to be any good. It's only effective at close range, and maybe medium range if you learn how to use it correctly. But at those ranges, I may as well use the tier 2 SMG. That thing is even more accurate than the Revenant.
By the way, where do you get the Incisor, and what's it like? What makes it different from the Tier 1 and 2 SRs?

Incisor is digital CE.
It's 3shot burst. Bit weird when using tha Infiltrator slowmo though, as you have to aim for all 3 shots.
Excellent weapon. Very good for day to day use.
Would really rather carry Incisor + Widow and the Heavy Pistol. *shuns SMG*

Revenant was great IMO, sure it didn't have great accuracy, but I have a sniper rifle for that.
BTW, what are your choices as a sentinel? Do you get anything there?

No idea why the poor old Revenant getting all the hate I got it and I rip threw people fairly easily with it, it about using it in burst not firing it like a mad man.

Ok I'm a soldier and have been using the "Widow" for a while now. Best sniper rifle so far in both games. kills damn near EVERYTHING in one shot.

I suppose, while we're discussing weapon locations, where could I theoretically find sniper rifles other than the stock? Same with assault. I suppose I'm not too far in, but only things I've found is a heavy weapon and an assault rifle.

There's a semi-auto SR on one of the Illium missions I think. Don't quote me on that though. I can't remember exactly which planet, but i'm pretty sure it's one of the Illium missions.

So again, which of the weapons on the ship can a sentinel use?

If your a Solider, first run through I would recommend you go with the Revenant, here is why; My Soldier has Hardened Adrenaline Rush, Combined with Tungsten Ammo can take down grunts in seconds, bosses in seconds more!
Now that's with all the Assault Riffle upgrades, including accuracy. And for the naysayers who says its too hard to aim, burst fire.
Oh... and a ammo count of 600 something is not bad either.
