Sentinels don't get any of the special guns however they can gain access to the standard AR, SR, or SG weapons.

Sentinels, Adepts, Infiltrators, Engineers, and Vanguards can all learn to use a sniper rifle, assault rifle, or shotgun. You don't get access to the weapons you find there (for...some reason), but you can use the standard guns. Though if you're an Infiltrator that picks anything but the Widow, something is wrong.

The Claymore's not really that good IMO, since it's single-shot; the DLC Eviscerator is pretty equivalent.

Soldiers and Infiltrators should go for the Widow, but if you're a Soldier and your aim isn't great, take the Revenant. I have pretty bad aim on the 360; it seemed like every time I fired the Mantis the enemy would duck back into cover the instant my finger tensed on the right trigger. Waste of a valuable shot. Tested the Widow out, had the same problem. Decided to stick with my lovely Viper, who's much more forgiving on accuracy (since you have more than one shot per clip).

As a Soldier I almost never use the Sniper Rifle so I usually take the Revenant, as an Infiltrator though I always take the Widow though I'm thinking in one playthrough I'll take the AR so I can recreate my ME1 Infiltrator.

The Revenant is basically a M60 IN SPACE. Even with its not-so-great aim, I can't stop to love this rifle.

Oh, and Revenant + Inferno Ammo = OVERKILL.

The Mantis was good enough for me as a support sniper. I let the Widow to Legion, he uses it better than I.

As a soldier, I pick the revenant - since the soldier is the only class to use the AR and it seems a waste otherwise. I like the gun too - large clip does it for me. And for the record, the Revenant is actually a light-machinegun (it's in the name). Hence the inaccuracy.

As a infiltrator, you naturally pick the Widow since infiltrators are meant to use SRs. Awesome gun - could of used more ammo though.

I haven't tried the Claymore yet, although I'm playing a Vanguard with my current playthrough, so I might check it out.

The Revenant without a doubt if you are a soldier. You tear through any enemy in seconds, rarely run out of ammo and the accuracy penalty is easily mitigated.

I would stipulate that if you use a gamepad then maybe the Rev isn't as great simply because aiming is harder. But on a mouse and keyboard you just fire in bursts (aim for the upper chest) and your shots will kick up into the guys face. Moreover the gun turns bigger bosses into swiss cheese.

Honestly its a matter of preference. As the only class that can get the Rev i always think its a waste to pick up the other ones. Soldiers shine at mid to long range. With liberal use of Adrenaline rush and either warp or AP ammo you can tear things up.

The Revenant would be sub-par for anyone but a soldier, but since the soldier is the only class that can pick up the Revenant, it is not an issue.

The reason is simple: Adrenaline Rush. That basically takes care of the accuracy issue. I can usually take out 3 people with one Rush with the Revenant. Burst 1, dead, Burst 2, dead, Burst 3, dead.

And then you still don't need to reload for a while. The combination of its sheer power and its ammo capacity, coupled with Adrenaline Rush, makes it the best weapon IMO.

Sure, the Widow has incredible stopping power, but in Adrenaline Rush you can only get 1 shot off before it expires. I find that sniping as a Soldier is simply better with the Viper, as I can get several shots off in one Adrenaline Rush.

Also, I think the Revenant is the best anti-Husk weapon out there. Better than shotguns. Just let her rip. :)

You get the option of learning either sniper rifles, shotguns, or assault rifles.  I choose sniper rifles for any class EXCEPT vanguard.  I used to shoose AR for them.  But, with the Locust SMG, now I would get the claymore shotgun.  It is like a short range widow - great with biotic charge.

Revenant for DPS. Widow is for infiltrators. You are not supposed to snipe with revenant and viper with ad.rush can mildly offset widow's DPS burst.

Alright, so I'm not at this part yet, but from what I've read you'll enter a Collector ship at one point and have a choice of three weapons.  Now I'm a solider, but I love me some sniping, hence I'm torn between the awesome-sounding
Revenant or the sniper rifle that I'll be offered.  Seeing as sniper ammo doesn't last long regardless, which would you all say is the more beneficial choice?

Thoughts?  Thanks all.

I always choose the Widow, just because it's so insanely powerful. For the final boss, I managed to take it down using a few powers (incinerate) and about half the ammo capacity in the widow. It can take down YMIRs in a few shots, and takes down commandos/mercenaries with usually a single shot. Also, being a sniper rifle, is far more accurate than the revenant, and since the widow only holds 12 clips w/ one shot per clip, you need to make them count. The widow was an immense help, and that is my choice, period.

I like the Revenant. It definitely takes some getting used to if you're a fan of the Vindicator, but with a bit of practice, it's still possible to fire fairly accurate bursts at longer ranges, and it's great for mowing down charging enemies. Once a Harbinger's barrier has been stripped away, you can take him down with one clip. It definitely forces you to take a more aggressive approach, but my default class is Vanguard, so I'm fine with playing that way as a soldier...

On my Vanguards I've always gotten assault rifle training and then used the Vindicator, but that was pre-Kasumi, I figure if I do another Vanguard playthrough, I'll probably go for the sniper rifle because the Locust kinda makes regular assault rifles unnecessary.

Me, I use the Collector assault rifle. Pretty effective.

As someone who hated the Vindicator and its burst-fire feature I fell in love with the Revenant. It takes some getting used to, but with all the upgrades and some practice, I'm now pretty much a surgeon with the Revenant. I have no problem with take enemies out from any distance. The Widow is a beast and if you love sniper rifles (which it seems most people do) its a great weapon, although its lack of semi-automatic fire is irritating when fighting larger groups.

I have to ask if anyone has ever picked the shotgun? Even on my more 'experimental' play throughs I can't make myself chose it.

Not understanding the Revenant hate... for a soldier class its the best weapon to pick due to your high health and hardened adrenaline rush...

Sure the Widow is by far the best sniper rifle but honestly the Mantis and Incisor are not far behind and with all sniper rifles you have limited ammo... I've NEVER run out of ammo for the Revenant no matter how much I use it while my infiltrator has run out of Widow ammo lots of times or I've had to save the last few shots for the boss...

And yeah it's inaccurate... but with inferno ammo or heavy disruptor + a little practice burst firing if they are at range or running in and spraying at medium/close I can tear through insanity enemies like they were TP (with a few exceptions of course)

Oh yeah, I forgot about that. I like the Vindicator, but damn, half the time it's just dead weight because it's out of ammo, especially at HC/Insanity where even Varrens are bullet sponges.

The Widow is epicly powerful. Seriously. It is epic against those ridiculously overhealthed bosses.

The Revenant is very lethal when you can get very close to your enemies and spray 80 bullets in their torso.
