ME2: Save game broken after going back a mission

Since I first got the game everything was working fine with saving.  I typically try to save before hacking or major battles so I don't have to restart the whole thing over.  It would always give me a new save, incremented, one more number than the last save.

After finishing the ArchAngel mission on Omega I decided to go back tonight and try the mission again (to see if I could do a better job on gunship).  I loaded a save (#45) that was about 10 saves before my last one #55.   After I did this the game would not give me a new save slot, it would only OVERWRITE an existing save!   So now I have no way of saving my progress as I go along.

Strangely enough the Quick Save still works, yet it does not show up on the Save screen, only the Load screen.

I've tried deleting some old saves to see if that did anything but no dice.

FWIW everything else is working fine.   Love the game so far.

Any ideas?  Please help!  :(

Here's the workaround. Made backup of Save folder, Then deleted all save games except the autosave and quicksave files. Restarted and it started working correctly again. I think there is a bug that if you go back to a mission and restart or somehow get the saves out of order it hoses your saves.
